I HAVE BROUGHT A MADMAN ABOARD MY SHIP, she thought, cold dread painfully flourishing in her chest. a madman or a man intent to kill us all. For another moment she could not bring herself to do anything except pray, God willing, the rest of her crew bore enough sense to not pay heed to the ridiculous suggestion as the marid struck another long limb against the side of the ship and sent the Marawati careening towards the water and a dozen men flying across the deck and colliding against it's rail. Maple wood & ribs cracking alike. Amina was kept on her feet only by the rope she managed to urgently wrap around her wrist.
❛ Son, do you not see that it is trying to eat us ? ❜ But it was absurd to think that they could kill this creature, & even more to believe they’d outrun it — it was also their only bet. She called for Tinbu to haul what bit of naft they had left before turning back & yelling ( to both the newcomer & her scurrying crew ) ❛ We wound it & we flee — take up the oars after Tinbu has fired his first arrow, any sooner & we risk losing them ! ❜
the morality he clung to so desperately was now expanding its reach to those surrounding him. his body was a scarred reminder of his moral compass , each decision to take the pain instead of inflict it onto others weighed heavily on his own heart ; he could never let it effect others. his teeth grind together , eyes flickering to find any way he could help. as the ship is struck , he leans over to stop one of her crew from crashing over. ❛ woah. easy. ❜
he slowly nodded his head , at least comfortable with the fact they didn't have to kill their attacker. the phrase , he thought , should stay in his own head this time. ❛ right. good point. ❜ a pause , almost missing her commands as he scans for the nearest rowboat. without even asking , he starts to sprint towards it. ❛ don't worry , just focus on making this boat move faster ! ❜
❝ will you stop fidgeting? or i'll have to start all over and you'll be sat here for even longer! ❞ her warning is given with honey-glazed laughter before hands return to styling his hair. she had no end look in mind — just letting her creativity flow over; seeing what worked, what didn't and what she could get away with.
❝ i do have trained models for, as you put it... ❞ her tone shifts, in an attempt to do her best vash impression. ❝ for this sort of stuff. ❞ then more laughter spills. ❝ and you're doing this, because i asked you too so nicely. i didn't say anything about you having to model. ❞ barbie just wanted to see if she could style his hair; a mission succeeded.
optimism incarnate , hope radiates from her playful tone. it eased every ounce of his being , even relaxing his posture despite the almost hostage situation. he laughs , though between hisses & gasps. hands flail at her even if his attempts to escape were futile.
❛ just try not to cut too much off , 'kay ? or maybe don't cut any off at all ? ❜ laughter accompanies his plea for mercy , his head leaning in to allow her more access. ❛ it's my turn next. i bet i could style your hair perfectly. ❜

FOOT KICKS AT THE SAND, some of it sticking to the tip of their cowboy boot. it would look a little petulant, if not for the forced air of nonchalance around them. they are not used to talking about feelings, about their parents or The Accident. confiding in others is a trait long buried underneath the rubble of their home and in the plant room with their friends. ❛ if it's not my fault then it's not yours either. ❜ they look at him and grin. part of them still wants to grab vash the stampede by the collar and drag him in for the bounty, but the other half is simply tired and sees something in him that reminds them of looking in a mirror. ❛ but its no use saying that either, is it ? 'cause you always blame yourself. i get it. ❜
they shrug, smile turning a little easier. ❛ honestly, he may not even have been. midvalley's been harassing bars for years, even before he got to ours. it was a nice place, i used to dance there, y'know ? but because it was a nice place all sorts of different types gathered there. for someone like midvalley all it takes is one asshole he doesn't like showing his face in a joint and then that joint goes boom. ❜ they mull over it, giving a shrug. ❛ if you wanna help, you can buy me a drink. ❜
the ECHOING reason of his brother's voice rings in the back of his mind , as if it were trying to convince him again that humanity were NOT WORTHY of being saved. they constantly fight , they punish each other & they are selfish above all. yet , vash smiles at the story they begin to tell about their hometown. instead , he focuses on the fact they DANCED , they bonded with various people & it's only the select few who seek to ruin it. to vash , that's why he protects humanity over his brother.
sunlight flares across his lenses , his head nodding as he places his hands behind his head. ❛ i'm glad we UNDERSTAND each other , you're a good person. ❜ a beat , arms dropping as he begins to walk. ❛ sure. lead the way , i'm right behind you. ❜

palms coat his stomach as he tries to hide his cravings as though they were visible. he didn't need to eat , yet he found himself feeling all the more better for doing so. it might as well be hunger at this point. lips part to let out an innocent chuckle , eyes shutting behind lenses. ❛ well , i haven't had any donuts in almost two weeks. it's been a strict diet for me , sadly. ❜ eyes pop open at the sudden thought. ❛ does this mean we're going to get donuts ? ❜

exhaustion weighs his figure down to the ground , whether it was plaguing the mind or the body , he wouldn't say. digits curl into his bloodied side, reaching under his clothes to retrieve the bullet ; he didn't blame the officer for firing , he was responsible for that officer losing his town. instead of regret sitting on his face , a sombre smile took the lead. eventually , he looks up at her & forces the smile wider. ❛ someone who was very angry. don't worry , i'll be fine. ❜ a wince amongst his pause , head tilting the side to feign innocence. ❛ if anything , i'm just really tired. why don't we hit the road ? ❜

the matters of family run deeper than just blood or history , they leave scars on the skin & the soul. vash doesn't know anyone who isn't defined by their ties to family , even his brother. her story resonates with him , destruction caused between family. eyes wander down as memories flash across his lenses. the familiarity of guilt & loneliness creep back in , an unwelcomed friend. he sighs , looking back at her with a smile nonetheless. ❛ you're a long way from home. the people on this planet lost their home too. they'll take care of you if you take care of them. they're good like that. ❜

❛ i think we should try & get along with it. ❜ his smile could be sickening to some , or at least confusing to others. the optimism that masked his feelings was his greatest skill amongst the many others he's reluctant to apply. the ship he had stumbled upon had already taken one too many bites from the creature , yet vash saw its death as unnecessary. ❛ come on , it's probably just hungry. do we really need to kill it ? ❜ his hands were held out in plea , trying to muster as much authority as he could on a ship he's been on for thirty minutes.
...but ONE bullet is worth TWO WHOLE slices of pizza!

their friendship was unique , to say the least. their varying backgrounds weren't compatible yet their souls were as compatible as they could come. yet , he continued to hiss & pull away from her hands that tugged his hair. his legs became crossed & arms folded as he tried to look up through his fringe. ❛ remind me why i'm doing this again ? don't you have trained models for this sort of stuff ? ❜ it was a gesture of his pride over their friendship that convinced him to let her style his hair. ❛ ouch ! hey , i think you're pulling a little too hard. ❜

hands apply themselves to his jacket , dusting down any sand that he covered himself in whilst fighting off those shadows. he didn't know what they could even remotely be , let alone figure out why they were after him. instead , he turned to smile softly at his saviour. ❛ you saved my life , thank you. ❜ a pause , another moment to take in the hero that clearly knew how to fight them. ❛ you look like you know what they are exactly. you also don't look like you're from around here , huh ? ❜
