really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.

also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.

tumblr pisses me off so fucking bad why does no one ever wants to talk about WHO is working in the slaughter houses and under what conditions. everyone is always like ‘oh you care more about cows and pigs than the exploited farmers having to produce your quinoa’ (as if only vegetarians and vegans eat quinoa but w/e) and its like girl who the fuck do you think is slaughtering these animals? the thing about carlos is that he’s a burnout. he’s is constantly 24/7 exhausted and he has been this way since he was ~6 years old. having to clean up an entire mansion’s worth of chores under threat of physical retaliation will do that to you. in his childhood this manifested in him being sad a lot but by the time hes a teenager he’s just entirely numb to it. hence, burnout. carlos does more chores in a day then most people do in a month and he still finds time to pursue his own ends. this is why he takes 0 shit and always, always takes the path of least resistance. because, and forgive my loaded wording, a bitch is tired. he will bite you if provoked however. for the same reason

Beautiful analysis I’m nodding my head very sagely along with you. it’s not that Carlos is pivoting hard between panic and calm it’s that his body enters flight or fight mode when necessary and then cuts that shit off at the head when it’s no longer necessary. Carlos is expending only exactly as much energy as he needs to. If he needs to freak out then he freaks out. If he needs to be extremely calm and able to improv his way through an IT phone call while on the run from the cops then he does that. it’s like this fucked up dissociative zen state where nothing actually permeates his mind palace unless it’s absolutely necessary for survival. We see him experience genuine anger like once and it’s at the end of D2 while defending Mal. you know FG’s psych notes on him say some shit like “possesses a rich inner life ❤️”.

But the thing about this fucked up dissociative zen state is that like brains can’t do that forever. someday, like maybe 10 years someday, when Carlos’ life is considerably more stable (grad school, maybe, or once he’s entered his career and has a solid place to live and 4 incomes (maybe more) to eat food off of perhaps) he is going to

yes yes yes I am eating this up. I love the idea of Carlos FINALLY reaching a state of being safe enough to release some of the tension and then. Oops. Turns out that was load bearing.

And it took him like ten fucking years to get there, so of course the others have already been through this breakdown in fucking. High school. When they had to keep waking up and doing things every day regardless of what they felt like mentally, because high school students are constantly being supervised by teachers and other adults and don’t have very much control over their lives. And they’re doing this at BOARDING school, which is worse because they WILL have a teacher up in their business if they miss more than one singular class. So they just had their breakdowns about being a real person who somehow made it out of their hellish nightmare childhood situation alive, and then, like. Went to an 8am Algebra class about it.

Carlos is having his being-a-real-person crisis as an adult. With free will. And the ability to disappear off the face of the earth to go have a truly gross panic attack in a fortified bunker that he totally just has for shits and giggles and like, hiding his royal friends and family if it ever comes down to it. But suddenly he’s loosing his fucking mind and. Maybe the secret bunker is a place to be. Where nobody will see this absolutely whack personal crisis that he would like to put BACK IN THE MENTAL BOX PLEASE. He Does Not Want to Process Anything Anymore. This has Been Enough, Put It Back Now.

so in addition to the breakdown that’s been ten years (roughly) in the making, he also has the adult freedoms to TOTALLY fuck up his life about it. And I think that’s so beautiful ❤️

society feels an ownership over transmasc bodies and a lot of the anti-transmasc sentiment on this website is literally meant to punish us for daring to assert autonomy over the bodies we're told don't belong to us (our own bodies). it is a rage people feel because we're reclaiming that ownership. that's why people act so bitter and resentful. that's why there's so much contempt. it's because they don't think you deserve to actually have a say in what happens to your own body, because it's not supposed to be yours in the first place.

a lot of chronically online people see trans men as an easy and acceptable target for sexism and misogyny because they can use semantic fog and word games to pretend they are doing fun feminist "I'm a misandrist!" jokes while actually saying all of the misogynistic and sexist things they would love to say about cis women but don't feel like they can (yet)

Can you explain how a trans man forced into women's spaces is just as likely to be raped as trans women forced into men's spaces? Do you really think women are as likely to rape a sole man in their space as men are with women?

A few points here:

First of all, I think that women do a LOT more rape than is socially acknowledged. This goes highly unreported and unacknowledged because we as a society don't think women are capable of rape or sexual violence. Like I do think cis men are the majority in sexual violence, but dismissing women as less capable of it is a form of benevolent misogyny I see very often.

Second, while women are less likely to cause violence with their own bodies, this doesn't mean they do not cause it by asking the men in their lives to do it for them. This idea that women are inherently "safer" just because they aren't the ones PHYSICALLY inflicting the violence is again, a form of benevolent misogyny. Some of the most famous and gruesome murders in my country happened because a (white) woman was offended by a (brown/Black) person existing in her space so she called upon men in her life to kill them. Obviously this isn't an exact parallel scenario but it does demonstrate my point of women's indirect role in oppressive violence.

But most importantly, I think hypervigilantly nitpicking which trans person in what gendered housing scenario is in the most danger is pointless oppression Olympics. All gendered housing situations are dangerous for all trans people. Period. The point isn't who has it worse or who is in more danger. The point is that we *are* in danger. Trans women in women's housing, trans women in mens housing, trans men in mens housing, trans men in women's housing, or nonbinary people in gendered housing are ALL at risk of violence and rape. I'm sure if you spent a couple hundred thousand dollars in studies, you could get a more definitive answer than "men rape women the most often overall, so obviously that must be true in this specific scenario as well," but like, why bother? Who cares?

Stop spending time obsessing over who's hurt worse by gendered housing and start trying to abolish it alltogether.

I reject the premise that trans women are the "main" targets of transphobia. I reject the premise that trans women are victimized more, worse, or more intentionally by transphobia than trans men. I reject the premise that trans men are only accidental or secondary targets of transphobia. I reject the premise that trans men are merely splash damage casualties in attacks against trans women. I reject the premise that trans men are only accidentally harmed by transphobia.

I should not have to post about transmasc issues with a disclaimer that "of course" trans women are hurt worse by this. I should not have to apologize for posting about transmasc issues instead of transfemme issues.

There is nothing accidental about transphobia. Every facet of it is intentional. Trans men are not bystanders in the genocide against all trans people. Trans men aren't accidental targets of trans genocide.

I love how people who howl about how all vegan leather is plastic are EVEN MORE outraged about all the plastic that is used to transport food and beverages and trinkets, since those are a way bigger contributor to global waste AND the alternative materials are far better for the environment than leather! Oh wait huh… it looks like they’re only getting worked up about the evils of plastic when it gives them a chance to own vegans? I do think it’s worth having a conversation about the sustainability and ecological impact of various materials but most people don’t actually want to have that conversation.

I say this a lot on my blog and you're all probably tired of hearing it, but the key thing to keep in mind is that these are not good faith arguments. This kind of double standard does not make sense for an argument that is earnest and serious, but this argument just isn't.

They don't actually care about the environmental impact of vegan leather, if they did then they'd have figured out how horrific leather (and most animals products) are for the environment and would have stopped using then. They are purely using this as a cheap and easy gotcha. It is just the latest in a long line of serious issues that anti-vegans use as a way to finger point at vegans, because for some reason it makes people feel enormously better to know that those high and mighty vegans are actually doing something Very Bad™.

Putting down people who are advocating for positive change just appears to be very self-soothing when you are presented with a challenge to your character or morality, which is why people do it to activists of all kinds.

"Did you use a car to get to this climate protest? HAHA you hypocrite! Oh you support workers rights? How about that IPHONE you got there huh buddy?! looooool"

The difference is that in almost every other context, the kind of self-identified 'leftists' we see on Tumblr would recognise this as the fallacy that it is. That the messenger is not living a perfect lifestyle themselves is not an argument agaijnst the message. When it comes to veganism, though, left wingers and right wingers seem to be broadly agree that vegans need to be put in their place to maintain the status quo.
