Enemies Of The State : Dark!Klaroline {20}
This fiction follows the events of just how Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes lost everything that tied them to their humanity, leading them into something neither of them can come back from.
It was as if the world had stopped in itโs tracks, completely and utterly still.
Caroline Forbes lay frozen on the ground, her greyed skin lightly illuminated with the lights and liveliness of Bourbon Street. It was the only source of light to confirm that, in fact, she was dead.
Her former friends stood in the wake of what had been inevitably done, not one wanting to believe what they saw was real. Stefan was the first to barely choke out words, as he tried to blink away tears at Carolineโs corpse.
โWhy,โ He choked out. โW-Why would you do that?โ
Elijah Mikaelson simply narrowed his eyes, a sickly satisfied expression on his features as he glanced down at his murder.
โIt was nothing personal, i assure youโ He stated. โThis was between my brother and Iโ
โBecause of Katherine, wasnโt it?โ Damon spoke up, stepping over Carolineโs arm. โYou wanted to avenge your precious doppelgรคngerโs death by killing Caroline. An eye for an eye.โ
Elena looked horrified as she stared down at her along with the others.
โYou have no idea what youโve just done.....โ
Elijah didnโt look phased at the slightest, his cool exterior still perfect intact. That was what had made the Original so terrifying. His calmness masked his hunger for revenge, which had made him unexpected. He cleaned his blood stained hands with a pristine white cloth. Carolineโs blood, on his hands. The sight was cold.
โI assume Niklaus will throw one of his temper tantrumโsโ He said nonchalantly, eyeing Caroline with a blank expression. โFor that, i shall be long gone before he has a chance to dig that dagger in my chest.โ
โYou knew what would happen to you?โ
โAfter seeing our poor sister in the backseat of your vehicle, i had come to that conclusion.โ
Kol Mikaelson stood forward, and for once in his life heโd looked utterly terrified. Wide unbelieving eyes cast down to Caroline.
โYouโve just signed our death sentences.โ
Elijah looked skeptic, raising an eyebrow. Of course he hadnโt known the depth of his actions, being too preoccupied to avenge the death of the love of his life who had once again, played a game with all of them. It was very unlike him, to not comprehend what role Caroline Forbes had played in keeping Klausโ humanity intact.
Now, there was no going back. The girl was dead, and so were they.
โNo need to be so dramatic,โ He obliviously rolled his eyes. โNiklaus will get over her death, after suffering for a while iโm sureโ
Kol looked at his brother with blazing eyes, struggling to comprehend his reasoning.
โThe girl you just killed in cold blood, dear brother,โ He spat out venomously โWas the only thing tying Nik to his damned humanity. Now, as you can see, we are doomed for Hell on earth.โ
โThis mere girl couldnโt be the only thing tying Niklaus to his humanityโ Elijah scoffed. โItโs absurd.โ
โTry saying that when weโre under the mercy of a sociopathic hybrid who doesnโt care who he kills anymoreโ Damon narrowed his eyes at the Original brother. โIโm outta hereโ
โWhere are you going?โ Elena questioned. โWhere could you possibly go at a time like this?โ
โYou think iโm gonna stand around to watch Klaus rip us all to shreds? No thanks. Have fun dealing with psycho werewolf.โ
Damon didnโt waste a second as he whisked away in a blink of an eye, before anyone could protest or stop him. Elena looked towards Carolineโs corpse, tears threatening to escape. She could feel Kolโs eyes on her, which made her all the more emotionally charged.
โW-We canโt just leave her here!โ She wailed, throwing her arms up. โKlaus will have our heads.โ
โWhat are we supposed to do Elena?โ Stefan spoke above a whisper. โDamonโs right. We need to go.โ
But before the girl could protest, a choked sob suddenly disturbed the conversation.
The group turned their heads to witness Klaus Mikaelson as he fell to his knees, watching the scene with unbelievabing eyes and an expression that spoke a thousand words.
Klaus Mikaelson had just about had it.
Of course, he was unprotected. Kai Parker could send him to desiccation in a matter of a simple touch, and it was for this reason heโd kept his distance when he finally saw the car.
He hadnโt aged a day, and was presumably harmless by the way heโd looked, just an average teenage boy, incapable of potentially eradicating an entire line of vampires. The siphoner was eating pork rinds, looking bored as ever.
Klaus narrowed his eyes, approaching the vehicle steadily, thinking of a game plan mid way. How do you infiltrate someone like Kai Parker? The answer was clear.
And once he was done dealing with Kai, heโd go after that bitch Katherine Pierce, who hadnโt deserved an ounce of mercy for the stunt she had pulled. Fooling his brother and himself, and it was quite her style, faking a death once again.
The thought made Klaus angry, seething. Just the mood he wanted to be in when he ripped into that Siphonerโs throat, eradicating the threat forever.
The he would make things right with his Caroline. The switch-flip would be tough, but it was nothing he hadnโt dealt with before. She would forgive him, being prepared to beg even. He had only wanted to be with her even if it meant having a weakness.
But for now, Kai Parker shall be dead.
Klaus Mikaelson had only bore his fangs, ready to pounce with his limited time when his supernatural hearing picked up a distant voice in the background.
โWell this is a tad bit theatrical, donโt you think?โ
He knew that voice anywhere.
It was as his world had gone silently still, his body frozen unable to catch on to the twisted reality that would inevitably dawn upon him.
With the piercing sound of a stake being driven through a heart, the Hybrid felt his legs move faster than he couldโve thought he was capable of, running through bourbon street.
Caroline Forbes had dropped dead on the ground when he stopped in the shadows.
Her lifeless corpse stared into nothing at particular.
But it was. Klaus knew that this was his new reality, brutally crashing upon him without so much as a warning, but only an avalanche of burning fire that flowed without stopping.
Elijah Mikaelson stood over her as if heโd accomplished something fantastical, but even then he hadnโt noticed him.
Klaus couldnโt breathe.
The conversation was muted in his ears, not paying any attention to the incessant group of people who thought they deserved to call his Caroline a friend. He had only stared at the love of his life, dead on the dust filled ground of New Orleans.
A broken sob erupted from him, falling to his knees in the midst of the wake of Caroline Forbes. His lively, beautiful Caroline, whoโs existence was treasured immensely by him.
Klaus could feel eyes on him, and he didnโt care.
The only thing he did care about, was killing Elijah Mikaelson.
And so from his pocket he drew a white oak stake heโd reserved just for this moment. In the angriest fit of hot rage and burning fury, he flashed towards his older brother before heโd the chance to escape, burying the stake deep in his chest.
Klaus Mikaelson watched fire erupt, casting a tear-filled gaze down as he watched Elijah burn.
