Join us in June for the third annual VamPride event, where fans of The Vampire Chronicles books by Anne Rice can show their colours and get creative! Fanfiction, fanart, playlists, graphics, cosplay, etc. โ all kinds of fanworks for the books are welcome at this parade.
A variety of prompts will be given over June 7th to June 13th in order to inspire people to create. If you choose to participate, post your contribution on the day of and tag us @valenfangs so we can reblog your work or add your fics to the VamPride2026 collection on AO3. We hope to see you there!

For @vamptember since apparently you can do meta for Queens of the Damned and Iโm soooo behind on art and writing I want to propose:
Butch/Butch Devilโs Minion with stone top f!Armand (in my tag sheโs called Adelaide* so Iโm gonna call her that), and complicated Loumand dynamics!!
CW: Armand backstory typical content; Marius is still a guy also
*The reason f!Armand doesnโt look exactly like book or show Armand in my art is because the AU I have which has some canon-mixing has her as, rather than a Kyivan Slav (Ukrainian by modern terminology) being Crimean Tatar). As such my face claim for her is neither Slavic Ukrainian nor Indian, but Tatar.
It has not always been this way, that Adelaide can live as a woman who presents more masculine and androgynous when she feels like it; itโs been a lot of Adelaide twisting herself into knots to be the perfect person for the one sheโs chosen or been chosen by whether she likes it or not.
I headcanon her as being a lesbian (not a commentary/knock on the books or show!) but one who didnโt realize she wasnโt into men untilโฆ probably the era she was with Lou(ise), because it never really occurred to her as an option since she had sexuality, and specifically โwillingnessโ to have sex with men, forcibly imposed on her from when she was a teenager and Marius was completely fine with that, it suited him. She sort of assumed her grooming-related admiration for and dependency on him and his saying she was totally in love with him just meant that was true.
In terms of her being butch, I think she secretly really liked dressing up as a boy and spending time with the boys at the palazzo, and Marius indulged her because of his whole crossdressing-kink thing and because he perceived it as something she was doing for him moreso than something she liked for nonsexual reasons, but after that she really didnโt get an opportunity for years. The Children of Darkness is all about conformity and avoiding a whiff of anything sexual so you can bet she was head-to-toe in long dresses or skirts in that era, and gender conformity was also expected, which more or less carried into the theatrical era because she was scared to be seen as different by the people who followed her.
She sort of just assumed Lou, being butch, would like her better if she was femme and bottomed and never really asked if Lou was into butch girls too so the fact that she was relatively comfortable presenting femme in chosen clothes, even if itโs not her ideal, and also comfortable letting her partner do whatever they want in bed and just being led, in an โI can tolerate this and perform and dissociation is basically subspace anywaysโ kinda way (she can be a switch in the being-drunk-from way I think, but being a pillow princess isnโt super ideal).
Lou would not actually mind if she was butch as Lestat was very free-wheeling between butch and femme presentations and thatโs kind of what sheโs used to at this point, but Adelaide kind of hides that part of herself trying to slot herself into a โperfect complementโ role for a while. She is able to start reinvisioning herself in terms of presentation (though not really sexually) after the Theatre burns down and she and Lou start over in San Francisco, and by the 70s sheโs cool dressing however she wants in public and has acknowledged to herself that sheโs not going to correct their neighbors if sheโs called a lesbian (politely) and it feels right. So thatโs where sheโs at when she picks up a bright young reporter at a lesbian bar with Lou one night in 1973.
Danielle at this point is out as a lesbian, starting to play with dressing butch and fantasizing about cutting her hair short; sheโs thinking of becoming a journalism student but itโs hard to work her way into a program when most are quite hostile to women period and especially loud, โobnoxiousโ [insert ethnic stereotypes about overbearing/mean women], and not difficult to out, so instead sheโs trying her hand at independent journalism, on the run from family pressure to marry and trying not to let her addiction demotivate her from the work she loves. At the same time, while she knows sheโs gay she isnโt exactly experienced so she wonโt have a sense of that until later, and has some work to do figuring out that, yes, not every butch likes to be the boss with a partner and sheโs not every butch.
I like to imagine a 70s-80s Devilโs Minion era which is technically concurrent with Loumand because if LOU can bring home a new girl every night to eat then Adelaide can take a day off from their life every now and again to check up on The Girl. This includes such things as:
Adelaide hanging out at leather clubs to do research like sheโs an anthropologist and being completely fascinated to learn about dominatrixes and sadism in a queer context
The stone-with-Danielle headcanon is basically she drinks Danielleโs blood and tops her and Danielle isnโt allowed to touch her back aside from kissing and trying to bite her with those silly human teeth. Cuddling isโฆ acceptable. Part of it is, if not exactly a trauma thing, a roundabout acknowledgement of the fact that she does actually have some kinds of sex she isnโt comfortable with, or not always. I think she and Lou end up more switching as a result of this which Adelaide also feels sort of safer with than just being who she โshouldโ

Danielle actually going to journalism school as a night school thing. As per the book, Adelaide dropping in on night school college classes to.
In my version Adelaide takes some religion courses sporadically and quietly starts thinking about reverting to Islam in bits and pieces because of the Quranic precedent for monstrous and cursed beings to be able to still accept Islam and also start experimenting with wearing hijab sometimes. Lou doesnโt entirely get it but sheโs happy this is an option for her, and far preferable to the intrusive thoughts about burning in Hell for eternity left over from Santino.
I think ultimately the cat and mouse game around turning/not turning Danielle is what pushes them apart until Lou gets it in her head to finish the interview, and thatโs when Loumand move to Dubai as well.
Several decades, one split-up long term partnership with a painstaking adoption process, and one legalized lesbian wedding/baby/divorce later, sheโs a hardened and hard-hitting journalist and problematic elder-dyke role model to lesbians everywhere when she begins interviewing those vampires. And the vibe is very similar to canon: sheโs got the leather and short gray hair and 70s rock band tees and all. Sheโs an award-winning, tough and uncompromising journalist and author. She a pioneer for women and gays in her field. Shes an inadvertent warrior for the rights of gay people to have the exact same kind of stupid fucked-up family/divorce drama as straight people. Sheโs real-life bad representation according to zoomers on Twitter.
And when she goes to the Dubai penthouse she meets Louโtastefully elegant butch lady since 1911โand her shy assistant Zainab** who also is apparently a volunteer blood bank sometimesโand is kinda head over heels about both of them in a way that will definitely get her canceled online once people realize the gorgeous butch hijabi in the sunglasses who sheโs hanging out with is 40+ years younger than her. Apparently.
**as Rashid was a shoutout to a minor book character, so is this name a shoutout to Zenobia. And yes Real Zainab the Talamasca agent is around too.

For vamptember. Too many to list since I fell off because of vacation, this should include everything I didn't do so far. I did my best. Home Again, Loustat fluff with a touch of angst and a very special guest, takes place after Akasha and Night Island stuff. 3,551 words, rated M just to be on the super safe side I guess.
