You were sick a lot as a kid?
I mean- yes, I had fevers more often than my peers. … I remember one winter, I had a very high fever, my mother took me to the Ahemmusa in Ald Daedroth, where they have always taken shelter. The Wise Women told my mother, when she thought I was sleeping, “the stars of your daughter’s birth were ill-fated. She will be lucky if she does not live the night.”
I was sick often, but that was a consequence of how sickly I was. I spent most of my childhood bedridden. My body spent its energy fighting to keep me alive, so I never really had the capacity to fight off illness until it had already made me even sicker.
When I was thirteen, I got really sick, so sick I fell into a coma… my mother went to Sadrith Mora and paid a magister to come and look at me. The Mage said that the reason I was sick was because my soul produced too much magical energy for my body process. My mother had known. What she had not known was that, the strain of puberty was what was causing my body to fail. The mage knew how to make me better, not cure me, but improve my condition.
He was hesitant to say, or to even offer it. Removing some of the strain on my body, would help my body recover, and make me healthier overall. Removing my ovaries, and it worked.
[Vara sidles up to Darien]

Hmm. I’ve been worried about you too. Have you found your crew yet?
(Darien sighed. She did look nice today. Not that she never did.) I did hear back from them. Apparently they found something else to do. They're being secretive but they said they would catch up with me later.Hopefully I'll be reuniting my crew sooner or later. Also saw my ex. She looks happy now...I'm glad for it ..even if it's not me that's making her happy ...So...how have you been?
[she covers Darien’s hand with her own, giving a clear view of the five pointed star emblazoned on her right hand]
I’m sure they will. [squeezing his hand before slipping it away]
I’ve mostly just been doing my job. Closing dimensional rifts, defeating daedra, that sort of thing. I’ve also been trying to use enough magicka so I don’t keel over again [she chuckles at the last part]
I…I also ran into Almathea, she seems nice {well except for killing twilight} I can see why you fell in love with her. {Not to mention that she’s gorgeous}
(Darien smiles as he looks at Vara's hand on his.) I hope so. I worry about them, especially the Kothringi kid. She's a bit young for all this running around. (He chuckles at the keeling over part.) You scared me on that one, I was worried but I'm glad you're alright.
(Darien's eyes widened a bit.) You did? And yeah....she hasn't changed much in all these years. Would you like a drink?
Sure, do you think they have “Muthsera’s remorse?”
"We can ask." Darien flagged the innkeep down and asked for the drink. Thankfully they had it. "So I also met your brother while you were unconscious. He was thrilled to send me back here." Darien chuckled.
Oh gods, what did he do? He can be so overprotective…
He recognized me and smiled from ear to ear as he sent me back to this kalpa. Probably worried that I was going to break your heart. (Darien takes a drink of his ale.)
{that might be my fault} …did you meet any other members of my family? {please say my father didn’t do something crazy}
"Your mother seemed nice. Your father thought I hurt you until your mother stepped in." Darien chuckled, shaking his head. "He was just worried about you, I imagine. If I was a father, that might of been my first assumption too."
Oh that’s good. I… I don’t know my father that well we only met like twenty years ago… I work a lot.
"Oh. I see. I.....never knew my mother. I would always ask my father about her but he never wanted to talk about her." Darien shrugged. "You seem like a busy lady."
I know- I mean my version of you told me that too.
Yeah- um- I am busy, less than I was though, now that my great-uncle’s back.
"Your great-uncle?" Darien was a little confused on that one. He was kind of aware of the multiple people from different places running around but knowing there was a version of him somewhere out there too was strange.
My great-uncle… [she hesitates] {it might be a bad idea to share this- he might think I’m a monster but it’s not like I can just leave him hanging like ughh} Sheogorath or Jyggalag, he’s very different from your version of him… in some ways.
"Oh! Your place must be different from ours then." Darien didn't seem too fazed. He did seen all kinds of lunacy in the Colored Rooms.
Yes quite, all the aedra and the daedra are related in my universe. My Great-Uncle had my job before me, but uh- he was split into two halves, one without creativity or emotion and the other without logic or memory. {there’s more to it than that but it’s not my place to mention his mental health crisis} You’re probably more familiar with the latter half.
"Interesting." Darien told her. "And I am."
Yeah, he can be a lot but he really adores his family. He and my Ama are very close. He treats him like his son, and he has a son so that’s provable.
"That's good to hear." Darien smiled as he kept drinking. "Being in this kalpa has been crazy. I met the Eternal Champion of my kalpa and a Kothringi."
I suppose it must be strange meeting all these new people after being in the colored rooms for so long.
It’s hard for me to imagine I’ve been far and wide, not just in my duties.

"Yeah but they're far more pleasant company than Umaril the Unfeathered or all the Champions and worshippers of Meridia that were there. It was kind of scary how they all had lost their free will. Except for Umaril, he was a dick." Darien sighed. "He was.....weirdly jealous of me. Not sure why, maybe it was my devilishly handsome looks or the fact that I was Meridia's new favorite until recently."
Umaril the Unfeathered, my cousin, Storm, killed him in my path. Hmm. My kin by in large don’t understand the value of free will. I remember one of my first missions as the Silver Knight, at the end of the second era, Jyggalag before he was restored to his original self tried to convince me to make him the main self and tie Sheogorath to being the lesser personality. He showed me another world- admittedly a brighter world, but what value is a world without choice?
"He's still in the Colored Rooms here. And yeah, free will makes the world what it is, both the good and bad parts of it." Darien sighed, finishing his ale. The innkeep returned with Vara's drink.
[She smiles bitterly as she takes a sip from her drink]
It’s funny you know, Jyggalag had lost all of his emotions, and yet he still did it all out of love. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice, he promised a world without choice, yes, but one filled with many more people, with peace, true triumph for the good.
My mother says that the gods are simply people with unimaginable power…
"Can't say much in that department. I've only met Meridia. Also I'm not the best at philosophical talk but maybe that world would be better in some ways but worse in others. There's always a price, as I learned." Darien sighed.
I spent a week in his vision, [she takes a sip from her cup] it was hard to destroy. He told me “All I need is a single moment, to make this world. Why should mortals have choice when they can only create chaos?”
[she stares into her cup, before taking a long swig]
The world he showed me- the world I prevented from existing- so many people who did not deserve to die, lived. The Duum, the Ayleids, the Falmer, even the Kothringi, got to keep on living, the Chimer never became the Dunmer… {I wasn’t born sick} But how can I use my choice to take it from others? I don’t know, why do I keep having to make decisions like this… what would you have done?
"I could see why it would be hard to make that decision.....living in a perfect world where there's no suffering or pain or stress. That would be a hard decision to make. Especially considering those groups of people who could of been saved....well, the Kothringi exist here apparently, were alive and well in that world." Darien tried to think carefully of what he was going to say. "But then....other people may of not gotten the chance to exist. There's be no free will to create art or the things that make living a little less awful. Like those pretty breads at the market or a good crisp ale or to make friends with people you wouldn't think you'd be friends with...or meet beautiful and intelligent women. I don't think I could allow your great uncle's vision to exist. But that's just me."
…that makes me feel better about my choice, I go back and forth on it. I feel guilty sometimes, about all those lives that I failed to save. My great-uncle for his part, well, I think he learned the value of chaos and choice the hard way, without it he wouldn’t be back to his old self- that is to say no longer split in two- nor would he have Storm, who he adores.
"I could see why. I've had those moments about the people that my friends and I weren't able to help. And that is good."
[She takes a sip of her drink before giving Darien a dazzling smile] It’s impossible to save everyone, I know that, but it’s still hard not to regret it. {The faint image of Garyn Indoril and Vanus Galerion appear in her minds eye. Just two of the people I failed to save} [she frowns]
I suppose it’s not easy getting the fate of the world placed on your shoulders, the two of us know something about that, don’t we? [her voice lilting with slight humor]
(Darien returns the smile.) That we do. It's such a heavy burden on these nice broad shoulders of mine. (He laughs, clearly trying to joke but he does not sound sure of himself.)
[she giggles] hmm, well the certainly look good holding up heavy weight, don’t they?

[she takes a sip from her drink, twirling a strand of her hair and blushing] mmm certainly.

[She turns her face towards her drink, her face even redder] {I have no Idea how to flirt… “A girl like me likes big strong men to protect them?” Might’ve worked if he hasn’t seen me slaughter daedra}

(Darien looks around nervously, running a hand through his hand.) Hmm...kind of?

(Darien sighed. He had a feeling he knew what she meant but he wasn't fully fond of the idea at this time.) Well, would you like something to eat? I think your drink might of been a bit strong.
What? Oh I wasnt! I meant like sparring or something or like going outside for a walk- I’m not that type of girl- not that I think that there’s anything wrong with that I just- oh gods [she’s blushing even more somehow]

(Darien felt embarassed and turned even more red.) I'm so sorry, I truly am an idiot! I shouldn't-Ughhhh-Yeah, we can get food or we could take a stroll, whatever you like.

(Darien smiles and he orders a few dishes he thinks Vara might like. They get to the pair quickly.) Hope you like them. They're quite good in my opinion.
[Vara takes a bite from the battaglir chowder, smiling slightly, shocked that he would guess of her penchant for greens]

I don't believe I have but I always wanted to try it.
Dunmer food tends to be very bitter and sour. The wise women used to say that the ash soaked into the bones of every animal and plant even the grazelands couldn’t escape, and it made the people bitter too. [she laughs]
When I first had Breton bread I thought it had gone bad. Battaglir is the closest to any dunmer crop. [she sighs]
Sometime I’ll make you cabbage biscuits, ‘kay?
"I see. Breton food is very.....sweet and savory. Also I would love that." He smiled at her.
Like the people? {ok maybe I am drunk}
(He chuckles.) I guess so. (He orders another ale.) You know the Kothringi kid, Tskiri, was amazed at the bread. Thought it was the most fascinating thing ever. Apparently they don't have any type of bread besides a flat one made of corn.
[She smiles broader, then glances at her empty cup] Do you know that bittergreen is poisonous before it’s cooked? It’s a staple of Dunmer food and drink. Is there anything like that in Breton food?
(Darien tries to remember.) There's a few mushrooms and some root vegetables like that. I couldn't tell you the names. I'm not much of a cook.
Mushrooms and roots are common in dunmer food. My mother used to make this stew, with russula, trauma root, and ash hopper meat. She’d get the spiced flatbread from Sadrith Mora, and we’d dip it in.
"That sounds delicious." Darien sighed. "I would love to try that."

"Umm......a lot of bread.......beef stew with turnip instead of potatoes...singing tubers.....and of course roast rock pigeons with mushroom stuffing..."

"It was." Darien opened up the next bottle of ale. "Glad to see you're enjoying the food."

I remember one of my first missions as the Silver Knight, at the end of the second era, Jyggalag before he was restored to his original self tried to convince me to make him the main self and tie Sheogorath to being the lesser personality. He showed me another world- admittedly a brighter world, but what value is a world without choice?
"He's still in the Colored Rooms here. And yeah, free will makes the world what it is, both the good and bad parts of it." Darien sighed, finishing his ale. The innkeep returned with Vara's drink.

Dunmer food tends to be very bitter and sour. The wise women used to say that the ash soaked into the bones of every animal and plant even the grazelands couldn’t escape, and it made the people bitter too. [she laughs]
When I first had Breton bread I thought it had gone bad. Battaglir is the closest to any dunmer crop. [she sighs]

The world he showed me- the world I prevented from existing- so many people who did not deserve to die, lived. The Duum, the Ayleids, the Falmer, even the Kothringi, got to keep on living, the Chimer never became the Dunmer… {I wasn’t born sick} But how can I use my choice to take it from others? I don’t know, why do I keep having to make decisions like this… what would you have done?
"I could see why it would be hard to make that decision.....living in a perfect world where there's no suffering or pain or stress. That would be a hard decision to make. Especially considering those groups of people who could of been saved....well, the Kothringi exist here apparently, were alive and well in that world." Darien tried to think carefully of what he was going to say. "But then....other people may of not gotten the chance to exist. There's be no free will to create art or the things that make living a little less awful. Like those pretty breads at the market or a good crisp ale or to make friends with people you wouldn't think you'd be friends with...or meet beautiful and intelligent women. I don't think I could allow your great uncle's vision to exist. But that's just me."

My great-uncle for his part, well, I think he learned the value of chaos and choice the hard way, without it he wouldn’t be back to his old self- that is to say no longer split in two- nor would he have Storm, who he adores.

(Darien tries to remember.) There's a few mushrooms and some root vegetables like that. I couldn't tell you the names. I'm not much of a cook.
Mushrooms and roots are common in dunmer food. My mother used to make this stew, with russula, trauma root, and ash hopper meat. She’d get the spiced flatbread from Sadrith Mora, and we’d dip it in.

"I could see why it would be hard to make that decision.....living in a perfect world where there's no suffering or pain or stress. That would be a hard decision to make. Especially considering those groups of people who could of been saved....well, the Kothringi exist here apparently, were alive and well in that world." Darien tried to think carefully of what he was going to say. "But then....other people may of not gotten the chance to exist. There's be no free will to create art or the things that make living a little less awful. Like those pretty breads at the market or a good crisp ale or to make friends with people you wouldn't think you'd be friends with...or meet beautiful and intelligent women. I don't think I could allow your great uncle's vision to exist. But that's just me."

Dunmer food tends to be very bitter and sour. The wise women used to say that the ash soaked into the bones of every animal and plant even the grazelands couldn’t escape, and it made the people bitter too. [she laughs]
When I first had Breton bread I thought it had gone bad. Battaglir is the closest to any dunmer crop. [she sighs]

I’ve mostly just been doing my job. Closing dimensional rifts, defeating daedra, that sort of thing. I’ve also been trying to use enough magicka so I don’t keel over again [she chuckles at the last part]
I…I also ran into Almathea, she seems nice {well except for killing twilight} I can see why you fell in love with her. {Not to mention that she’s gorgeous}

He recognized me and smiled from ear to ear as he sent me back to this kalpa. Probably worried that I was going to break your heart. (Darien takes a drink of his ale.)

"Your mother seemed nice. Your father thought I hurt you until your mother stepped in." Darien chuckled, shaking his head. "He was just worried about you, I imagine. If I was a father, that might of been my first assumption too."
Oh that’s good. I… I don’t know my father that well we only met like twenty years ago… I work a lot.
"Oh. I see. I.....never knew my mother. I would always ask my father about her but he never wanted to talk about her." Darien shrugged. "You seem like a busy lady."
I know- I mean my version of you told me that too.
Yeah- um- I am busy, less than I was though, now that my great-uncle’s back.
"Your great-uncle?" Darien was a little confused on that one. He was kind of aware of the multiple people from different places running around but knowing there was a version of him somewhere out there too was strange.
My great-uncle… [she hesitates] {it might be a bad idea to share this- he might think I’m a monster but it’s not like I can just leave him hanging like ughh} Sheogorath or Jyggalag, he’s very different from your version of him… in some ways.

Yes quite, all the aedra and the daedra are related in my universe. My Great-Uncle had my job before me, but uh- he was split into two halves, one without creativity or emotion and the other without logic or memory. {there’s more to it than that but it’s not my place to mention his mental health crisis} You’re probably more familiar with the latter half.
"Interesting." Darien told her. "And I am."
Yeah, he can be a lot but he really adores his family. He and my Ama are very close. He treats him like his son, and he has a son so that’s provable.
"That's good to hear." Darien smiled as he kept drinking. "Being in this kalpa has been crazy. I met the Eternal Champion of my kalpa and a Kothringi."
I suppose it must be strange meeting all these new people after being in the colored rooms for so long.

"Yeah but they're far more pleasant company than Umaril the Unfeathered or all the Champions and worshippers of Meridia that were there. It was kind of scary how they all had lost their free will. Not sure why, maybe it was my devilishly handsome looks or the fact that I was Meridia's new favorite until recently."
Umaril the Unfeathered, my cousin, Storm, killed him in my path. Hmm. My kin by in large don’t understand the value of free will. I remember one of my first missions as the Silver Knight, at the end of the second era, Jyggalag before he was restored to his original self tried to convince me to make him the main self and tie Sheogorath to being the lesser personality. He showed me another world- admittedly a brighter world, but what value is a world without choice?
"He's still in the Colored Rooms here. And yeah, free will makes the world what it is, both the good and bad parts of it." Darien sighed, finishing his ale. The innkeep returned with Vara's drink.

It’s funny you know, Jyggalag had lost all of his emotions, and yet he still did it all out of love. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice, he promised a world without choice, yes, but one filled with many more people, with peace, true triumph for the good.
My mother says that the gods are simply people with unimaginable power…
"Can't say much in that department. I've only met Meridia. Also I'm not the best at philosophical talk but maybe that world would be better in some ways but worse in others. There's always a price, as I learned." Darien sighed.
I spent a week in his vision, [she takes a sip from her cup] it was hard to destroy. He told me “All I need is a single moment, to make this world. Why should mortals have choice when they can only create chaos?”

The world he showed me- the world I prevented from existing- so many people who did not deserve to die, lived. The Duum, the Ayleids, the Falmer, even the Kothringi, got to keep on living, the Chimer never became the Dunmer… {I wasn’t born sick} But how can I use my choice to take it from others? I don’t know, why do I keep having to make decisions like this… what would you have done?
"I could see why it would be hard to make that decision.....living in a perfect world where there's no suffering or pain or stress. That would be a hard decision to make. Especially considering those groups of people who could of been saved....well, the Kothringi exist here apparently, were alive and well in that world." Darien tried to think carefully of what he was going to say. "But then....other people may of not gotten the chance to exist. There's be no free will to create art or the things that make living a little less awful. Like those pretty breads at the market or a good crisp ale or to make friends with people you wouldn't think you'd be friends with...or meet beautiful and intelligent women. I don't think I could allow your great uncle's vision to exist. But that's just me."
