“After being lied to and left by other romances in DAI it was nice to have a romance option who doesn't lie to or betray you. I also really like how you can decline his marriage proposal in Tresspasser and it doesn't ruin the relationship. I also like how his romance isn't perfect - despite looking like a stereotypical princely romance from afar. There is angst but he doesn't ask you to fix him, he fixes himself. He is haunted but he never takes that out on anyone except himself. If you break up with him he doesn't beg or blame you. I don't think his romance is boring. It's stable and predictable which equals safe to me. You know exactly what you are getting from his romance and it's nice that he has a happy ending.”

It’s stable without being empty: he’s dealing with lyrium withdrawal and trauma, but he’s also consistently honest about where he’s at and what he can/can’t handle. You can support him, but the game treats the lyrium decision as his responsibility, and he doesn’t use the relationship as an excuse to spiral. Even if you break up with him, he doesn’t get cruel or guilt-trippy; it’s sad, but respectful.”

Merrill just wanted to ride on someone shoulders so she can see over crowds of people and high walls. Iron Bull, being the sweet supportive brotherly-type he is, agrees but halfway through he decides to makes things a bit more exciting by “speeding things up”. Merrill doesn’t really mind even when Iron bull takes it a little too extreme.
