when i’m asked if i know this boy, i tell them that i did. i knew him before I lost him to the winding roads. to the tearing maps and unfinished cups of coffee. to brief conversations with the bus driver. to the cut up pictures of the family he doesn’t want to remember. before i lost him to the notion that goodbyes only rest a second on your lips before they dissipate between the creased inky pages of a blue passport.
