I'm noirandchocolate because of a Homestuck Land name generator.

If you aren't familiar with Homestuck, a simplified explanation is that in the comic, groups of young teens are transported to the world of a "game" and each is assigned to a small planet called a "Land," which serves as a kind of home base and setting for puzzles and combat and play. The Lands are themed according to each player's "personal quest," so to speak, and all share the naming convention "The Land of X and Y." For example one main character's planet is called "The Land of Heat and Clockwork," and is covered in lava and cogwheels etc.

In 2011, my then-girlfriend-now-wife and I a) discovered Tumblr and b) were really into Homestuck. We'd been talking about what our game would be like if we were "players" in Homestuck and came upon this random name generator that would spit out "Land of X and Y" names.

I got "Land of Noir and Chocolate," laughed my ass off because that's soooo me because not only was Spades Slick (a fellow formerly named Jack Noir) my favorite character, I had been getting into watching noir films. And also I like chocolate. So, when it came time to make a Tumblr blog, I spontaneously decided, you know what?

NoirAndChocolate.

And the only time I've ever changed it has been for seasonal/holiday names which used to be a Thing on here in the early 10s. (So, noirandcandypumpkins, noirandhotchocolate, etc.). Despite my sliding around through different "main" fandoms through the years? I will never change my username.

I’ve told this story before but back in the olden days, the long long ago, in the early 2000’s my wife and I were part of a larger internet friend group. One of these people started off as the cool, new age-y hippy friend, but over the course of five years or so, slipped deeper into batshit territory. She would purposefully upset the group, going so far as to harass KidK specifically and pull out classics hits such as “look at what YOU make me do,” “it was all just a misunderstanding” and “I guess I’ll just go hurt myself because everyone hates me :)” Her dogshit behavior went on for YEARS, and I have too many stories to dump here but just trust ya girl Basty when I say that this person truly got enjoyment out of making her friends cry. She had lots and lots of issues that she never got help for and took out her pain on those closest to her. (Unfortunate, and we all tried to be kind and helpful and understanding for yeaaaaars but there’s only so much of that you can take.) So one day, after yet another huge blowup (caused by her ofc) within the group, she sent a DM to me asking about what I thought of her leaving the internet forever, and I said “yeah you should probably do that. For your mental health.” Because 1) for her mental health and 2) for MY mental health, holy shit BYE!! That was the last conversation we had one on one, and off she flew into the night. (As a dragon, iykyk)

Anyway she had a (literal) hard on for the clergy after discovering Christ and tried to be a nun. (the Nuns asked her nicely but firmly to leave.) Then she went on to raise goats on a farm. (the goats however did not have the ability to ask someone to leave.) This now ex-friend stayed in touch with KidK through occasional letters and completely random art posts on DA and Side7 and then she dropped off the map completely, as she eventually realized we were all done entertaining her shit. So she finally dropped social media all together. But not before posting one last comic about her Catholic priest OC exorcising demons out of her soul. The demons?? You ask. Yeah demons. Three of them, three demons. Three demons that are very pointed representations of three of her former internet friends. The holders of her chains, the arbiters of her reality, or whatever. You know, the demons. As you would expect.

I was the purple demon cat of her mind garden and it was so god damn mother fucking funny that it’s now my username forever. Here’s a picture because she’s busy frolicking with horses somewhere these days and probably wont see this.
