The Varian

The Varian live far above the highest peaks of Vayri on floating islands supported by magic. The Varian split from the world many ages ago when the world was beset in it’s darkest ages. Since then Humanity and the Varian have been pitched in a war. The reason of this fighting has been lost to time but the hatred runs deep between the two races. Recent events have blown the relative peace that the two peoples had been relishing in and the death tolls have risen.

There are four islands which float throughout Vayri, each is named after the city built atop it. The cities are a dazzling display of the magical might of the Varian. They glitter in the sun being made from metals, crystals and white stone. Magic is an important resource to the Varian and children are taught the intricacies of the elements at an early age. Despite their distance from the world below them they maintain a decent trading relationship with the Dheur through their oasis city. Dheuver is the only other race to be seen on the Varian Islands.

The Alvorii

The Alvorii are a recluse culture. They make their homes in the canopies of the great western Forests of Vayri have been explore little by humans. It is often thought by scholars that the Alvorii are in fact a myth told by the plains hunters of Ravnice to scare their children into not wandering into the wild darkness of the trees. Many even suspect them to be remnants of the Keid, ancient spirits believed to have died off with the Old Ways, but this is not true.

The Alvorii do not mingle with the outside world beyond protecting their borders because they have little need to. They derive their life source from the trees themselves, which provide everything from nourishment to shelter. Their technology is nearly non-existent, but they make up for this in an intricate weave of nature magic. This magic causes an unnatural glow, similar to bioluminescence, to emanate from the deep forests at night.

There are three main territories belonging to the Alvorii; Maeata – an Island set apart from the rest which has an entirely separate culture from the rest of the populace; Illaya – This territory interacts with humans the most being located in Ravnice’s Deepwood; Then the smallest of them all Atalik – the forest bordering to the west of the Keyn Desert where few live.

The Dheur

The Dheur, once Dwarves of the mountains, were exiled from their fortressed homes thousands of years ago into the endless sands of the Keyn dessert. The Dheuver culture has since evolved into that of a nomads life families roaming their lands scavenging for old relics they have long dropped or lost to time. This is not to say they no longer follow their traditions of old, among this is their way finding songs which once were used to direct themselves through the tunnels but now tell how to return to the Oasis city of Nazayra. 

They are known as the best traders in all Vayri, their traders posts dotting many human towns along their boarders, especially in Zaliv and Bo’grad. Sometimes their Caravans can be seen as far south as Ravnice and North as Barak (where their home lands had once been). It is rumoured they have relations with the Älvor, the peoples of the deep forests to the West.
