He rubbed at the back of his neck in response to the question, “In a manner of speaking, yes.” Javier answered after a moment of contemplation. “I have someone from before who would probably buy me anything I liked. But I feel – it feels wrong to ask. Considering everything.” Not that anyone who knew his life prior to this couldn’t figure out who he was talking about; but Javier still felt the need for a measure of caution.
“But having my own money to purchase things? That’s difficult, yes. A big change.” At least there was little that could be seized. Most of his belongings had been with Jason, his money had essentially been Jason’s for the most part. The things that had been taken from him were few. “I suppose I made my bed though. Time to lie in it.”

“Considering everything?” Vered genuinely was curious what the man meant. It seemed like he thought he deserved his position as a traitor, but what did that mean? How could anyone think themselves deserving of such a horrible fate?
Vered felt something akin to frustration well in his chest and make his palms itch. It was barbaric what this city did to its creatures. Regardless of what the supposed traitors had done, being collared and kept in a cell seemed awful– not to mention all of the violence he’d seen. Most of the human’s he’d met weren’t even that old during the war and yet their generation was forced into a life of cruel servitude. “I don’t think anyone should be put in your position,” Vered said abruptly. “It’s barbaric.” Perhaps it was out of line for him to say, but he didn’t care. He and his people were different. Life didn’t work the same way here and he couldn’t understand it though he’d tried to.
