I had the best practice today. It felt good physically and mentally, which has been rare lately. Navigating the ashtanga yoga system while having a chronic disease isn't easy. It's never been easy. Since I began my yoga practice over three years ago, there have been trials so tough that I could have given up, but I always come back to this. This incredible, therapeutic system that helps me to see myself in a positive light and reassures me that I am capable of anything. Even when things feel hopeless, I know they're not. “Hey it’s me, I was really hoping to get to talk to you, but I guess voicemail will have to work. I’m leaving on patrol in an a few hours so this is the only chance I had to do this before I’m outside the wire for a few weeks. I don’t know how to go about saying this, but things just aren’t working anymore. I’m not sure if it’s the distance, the things I’ve seen over here, or the fear that I’ll be someone else when I get back, but I can’t risk hurting you. I know this is going to hurt, but I have to do it. I have to do this now instead of dragging you along to only get hurt more in the long run. I know we discussed things before I left in October, about what we would do when I got home, but I just can’t fathom what I’ll be like when I get home. I’m so afraid that all this will have changed me and I won’t know who I am anymore. I hope you don’t hate me, and maybe you’ll still be there when I find out who I’ll be when I get home, but know that I think this is for the best right now. I love you and I’m so glad we reconnected, but I can’t be in love with you right now, it’s just too hard. We’ll Sgt is calling me, I hope we can talk when I get home, whenever that is. Bye.“  We were old friends who fell out of touch after our freshman year breakup, but reconnected when I moved for College. We had been together for 8 months before he deployed to Iraq. This was the voicemail I got on my lunch break at work, I missed him by 7 minutes. This was the last time I ever heard his voice. He made it home 2 weeks later, but not alive. He was KIA during an ambush while on a patrol. It’s been 11 years and I still have the voicemail and still think about him a lot. He’s the one who taught me how to love.
