if you’re reading this, something good is going to happen to you soon
still went on one anyway :))
10 things I’ve learned with anxiety and the gym:
Don’t be afraid to ask anyone for help, especially the weight room attendants. They are there to help you. That’s literally their job.
If you’re too anxious to ask a stranger about a machine, most machines have instructions posted on them (in fact, it’s required by gyms that all machines have this). Read. Try. Do.
If you feel to uncomfortable trying a machine you’ve never done before, and anxious that people will be watching (they won’t), write the machine down. Go home and YouTube/google the machine so you can try it next time.
Don’t be afraid to try something new. This is how you work different muscles. This is how you step out of your comfort zone.
Sweat is normal. Boob sweat, bum sweat, tummy sweat, thigh sweat. All sweat is normal. You’re human.
People aren’t staring at your sweat. The more you sweat, the more I can guarantee people are thinking “damn, they’re working hard.”
The 10 pound weights you’re lifting are just as badass as the 70 pound weights that the person beside you is lifting.
If people are looking at you, they’re likely admiring not judging. Don’t let that little voice in your head tell you different.
The person beside you cannot hear your music because they themselves also have they’re music blasting.
When you’re looking in the mirror and your anxiety is telling you everything that is aesthetically wrong with you, remember where you are. You woke up and chose you. You chose to work on you, to grow, and to be better. You are strong. There’s nothing more beautiful then choosing you.
