replaying vtmb2 for review purposes, and as much as the plot is kinda dumb, I find it hilarious that you get rid of Sheriff #1 for slaughtering thin bloods that hang out on rooftops and attack him on sight.

I get the game needed a generic enemy, but imagine you’re that 1% of thin bloods who really just want to chill, you find out that crazy guy who’s been running around Seattle is gone - but then not one night later there’s a new Sheriff who is apparently a powerful elder and can tear you apart in 0.2 seconds

It's unhinged to assume that someone's taste in fiction equates to what they believe is moral or good, or is something they want to see or experience in real life.

That is a bonkers assumption to make.

I'm tired of humoring people with long arguments about it when the simple fact is it is a totally fucking absurd reach to accuse someone who enjoys something in fiction of being in favor of it in real life.

I'm tired of pretending like this is a legitimate position to hold-- that they should be afraid of fiction's dire influence on a reader's moral decay or that it's a sign of what the author secretly wants for realsies in real life.

A trope that gets to me: 'guard dog' character and their partner who are both fully aware of it and honestly don't care/kind of like it. Someone says "call your guard dog off" and their partner does call them off. That person, their 'guard dog', is someone who is unreservedly, irrefutably loyal to them. Someone undoubtedly dangerous who is willing to kill, to maim, to obey, simply because of their love for one another. There's no manipulation involved— it is loyalty, brutal, dogged loyalty. And it goes both ways.

"Why are you so certain?"

"Why," Kapaneus asked again, in exactly the same tone, "are you so certain?"

Beckett almost told him. Because I have to be. Because if I'm wrong, if Gehenna and the Book of Nod and everything else is real, it means that not only have I not found the answers I seek, but everything I've done, everything I believe in, is a lie. It's bad enough not finding the answers. I refuse to accept that, for almost three hundred years, I've been asking the wrong questions.

But he didn't say it. Some things Beckett could barely admit to himself, let alone a relatively recent acquaintance. Instead he simply walked away and returned to his crate for yet another oblivious day.
