So I recently decided to get back on the One Piece train, and I have to say, despite some of the problems I have with the manga (mostly having to do with Oda only knowing one way to depict women, that being “big tiddy no ribcage”), I have to say, I’m completely and hopelessly charmed by Luffy and the rest of the straw hats, and the way they embody my favorite trope, found family.

And like, I know that it’s a fairly common trope in shounen manga, but I feel that one piece does it the best, probably because of the lack of romance in the series. Like most shounen have this bad habit of trying to include half-assed, boring relationships between the main guy and whatever girl he first meets, but in one piece, that’s not the case. Sure, Luffy and Nami love each other, but only in the same way that Luffy loves the rest of the crew, and they love him. One Piece really stresses the familial bonds between its characters, and its just really nice to see in a time where romantic relationships oversaturate our media as the only important relationships.

Ultimately though, what makes One Piece such a great embodiement of the found family trope, is simply the extent to which it’s taken. The straw hats are willing to do litereally anything for each other. whether it’s saving Nami’s island from a pirate crew that’s terrorizing it, or helping Sanji escape his horrible, controlling family, or declaring war on the world government for Robin- no mountain is insurmountable when it comes to keeping their family safe. But even though they’re so hell-bent I’m keeping their crew mates safe, never once does anyone try and hold someone else back from doing what they believe is right, even if it may end up getting hurt because of it. Because they love each other, of course they do, but most importantly they respect each other as well. They give each other space when it’s needed, but you can bet your ass that they will rush to help the moment they’re asked. Or when someone starts acting like a self-sacrificing moron. In which case, it doesn’t matter what they want, they can and will be saved by the rest of the crew.

Idk, I’m just really emotional about the bond that the straw hats share.

I just realised… If Oda wasn’t a coward with the representation of women then Robin would have had some beefy arms. This woman relies on her arms. She has had people quite literally walk on her arms and legs. Imagine how much strength it must actually take withstand the weight of people climbing on your limbs or using them to catch people who are falling.

Robin would have been thick and had toned arms and legs if Oda wasn’t trying to fan service the straight male audience.

I think he just use his energy for other things and listen his editor on something like like this. “Draw like this, it’s less time consuming and also appeal on 15 yo boys” Because if he started on doing things like that, well there is no end to this. 

He have to draw scars. He have  give people accurate skin color in order to match which climate they live on. He have to give them enough weight for what they eat. 

Also are we talking about weight behind the character’s strength? Because oh boy he have to quite literally re-design every single one of them because none of the apperance represent a realistic strength. We’re talking about a cook kick so hard he kills a T-rex.

One Piece 944

I have my review for 943 still in my drafts. All I’m going to say is that reunion between Zoro and Sanji was epic!

So obviously 944 had to continue with the epicness right!?!

First we start with these 2 going back and forth of course just what we needed after all these years of these 2 being seperate

Zoro was fucking pissed! I love how they showed Zoro thinking of Yasu, my guy really fucked with Tonoyasu and looked heated in the last chapter when Orochi called Yasu a sewer rat or something along the likes of that. Zoro wanted blood. No fucks given the shogun was going to die,

BUT………..

Kyoshiro wasn’t having it. First off he blocked that shit with his BARE HANDS! Zoro even looked surprised like who the hell is this. Kyoshiro called himself the guard dog of the shogun. Like was that sarcasm?!? I just cant help but get Gin Ichimaru vibes from dude. I bet he’ll do a heel turn towards the end of Wano.

I love how Sanji is like think clearly Yasu sacrificed himself for a reason. So dope how Sanji is trying to hit Zoro with the logic. And then outta nowhere X Drake appears looking to settle the score with O Soba Mask. But Sanji just casually dodges him while holding O-Toko lol no need for raid suit yet 😎

I also just love how Zoro is just waltzing towards Kyoshiro as there’s all this smoke and the samurai are about to shoot him. Then he says to Franky.

“They’re all yours.”

Like who knew Franky would just pull up like that. He’s always been with the shits tho. One scene standing in the background next scene suplexing someone off a rooftop lmao

Everyone squads up and starts to make moves. Franky recovers Yasu’s body now they just have to make a clean escape. Robin mentions coming up with a rendezvous point.

I wish the Zoro and Kyoshiro clash would be extended and really fight it out. I’m interested to see what Kyoshiro can do.

Luffy is just geeked to see his comrades going in. Haha I love the face he’s making here! Lmao too geeked. Also the comments made by Hyou & Queen regarding The Straw Hats…

But then low and behold look who has arrived back in the jail smh

Luffy even comments he must’ve been captured purposefully.

Bogus that Orochi was like oh Kamazou didnt complete his mission ok off with him to the prison mines like damn dude hahah.

But it seems that Kamazou is not who we think he is. At first I was confused like what the fuck is his relationship to Kid!?!? And then it all made perfect sense.

IT’S KILLER!!!

He’s been here in Wano Kuni this whole time fucked up on smile. The whole short story Kid gave about Killer never laughing anymore because he hated his laugh and how he wore a mask to cover up himself was short sweet heartfelt and to the point.

Kid has been looking for his comrades this whole time.

They literally fucked up his whole crew. I wouldn’t be surprised if Killer is the only one left alive. They did Killer so bogus by giving him so much Smile.

Because my thing is even with the effects of Smile you should be able to communicate and have conscious thought so why the hell is Killer all drugged out not talking, only laughing, and following any of Orochi’s orders. I didn’t think the Smile made you subordinate and follow orders. Like it really seems as if his personality is gone or is trapped within himself because the image above looks like those are tears of pain.

I felt for Kid as he screamed out, “WHO DID THIS TO MY PARTNER!?!?”

Imagine Luffy seeing Zoro like that. He would be going nuts.

So Killer and Kid are being dunked headfirst into water until Luffy and Hyou die.

I want to see Luffy fight Queen and take out a Yonko Commander without an asterisk next to the fight like all of Whole Cake Island.

(Oda made it seem like Luffy is no match for him yet.)

Luffy yells he’s the one who will decide where he dies (like any good MC). I swear this is some foreshadowing.

And then the Big One arrives

There is going to be a bloodbath. Big Mom has that look in her eyes. I wonder if there is more O-Shiruko, if not they’re all fucked. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone left while she was rampaging.

I really enjoyed this chapter. I felt as if the plot moved along very progressively and there was not a slow point in this chapter I was thoroughly involved and on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.

Favorite Parts of this chapter:

Sanji & Zoro interactions after so long.

Zoro showing emotion and being really pissed off going straight for the shogun’s head.

The Straw Hats there with immediate backup.

Kyoshiro blocking Zoro’s flying slash with his hand

Kid is back

Okay this might just be the most far-fetched theory I’ve ever come up with and there’s no actual proof that this happened but just…hear me out okay?

Let’s present the facts before I present the actual theory:

We know that Iroh is fairly old, definitely older than Ozai as indicated both by his hair color and the fact that he’s the first-born son and should have been the heir to the throne.

Speaking of that throne, the Fire Nation royal family looks like this:

Sozin —> Azulon (Father of Ozai/Iroh) —> Ozai and Iroh —> Zuko and Azula

Meaning that Sozin, the man who started the war, is only two generations ahead of Iroh. He’s Iroh’s grandfather.

We also know that Sozin was in his eighties the first time the comet came around. I’m just saying — he was old. So it stands to reason that his son, Azulon, would have been an adult during this time. Meaning it’s entirely possible that his wife could have been old enough to give birth to Iroh during this time.

Now that would make Iroh 100 years old during the series which seems completely insane but remember something important: People grow to insanely old ages in Avatar!

Proof:

Kyoshi: Died at 230

Bumi: Is 112 and still a badass

Sozin: Died at 102

Guru Pathik: His age is unknown but he was a Gyatso’s friend/confidant so he has to be over 100.

We also know that Iroh was fit both physically, mentally, and spiritually so yeah this guy could have definitely been 100 years old during the series.

Okay so we’ve established the fact that Iroh could have theoretically been born 100 years before the series began. Who cares? 

I do. Because I don’t just think that he was born roughly 100 years before the series began. I think that Iroh was born during a very specific moment.

And before I outright state the theory, I want to remind you all of the most important factor here: The World of Avatar is centered around the theme of reincarnation.

So hear me out:

Nobody likes thinking about what happened during the Fire Nation’s invasions of the Air Temples (unless you’re @tashiandnima​ in which case you write an entire amazing comic about it; seriously go read it). But as painful as it is, we have to think about the invasion for this theory.

We know that there was one fateful day when a comet shot across the sky and Sozin used the resulting power to send his armies to the Air Temples in order to wipe the airbenders out. So just imagine that. 

Imagine the monks all fighting to the best of their ability (they’re pacifists after all; they didn’t have an army).

Imagine Gyatso taking down dozens of soldiers but eventually being killed himself.

And imagine, hundreds of miles away, at that exact moment, Prince Azulon’s son is born.

Yep.

My theory is that
