Good reason to watch Peaky Blinders. Michael Gray, yes I do.
Please give us a detailed opinion of the MGK/Eminem beef
okay ive had a couple people ask now and you said detailed so here we go…
first, I just want to make a disclaimer. I have been a die hard eminem fan for about ten years now ever since I saw Stan on MTV. so now that I got my credibility for knowledge in the rap scene, and my admission for potential bias out of the way, let me begin.
I guess I’ll start with MGK first and I really have to give it to him, his track was fire. It had a hella good beat, and of course, he has a nice voice. It definitely bumps and is for sure something you would add to the playlist. So over all it was a good song. However, it was a shitty fuckin diss track. his blows were lame, surface level, and extremely basic. There’s no layers to it. It is literally just as you hear it. He shits a lot on Em for his appearance - your beard is weird, you’re old, you’re ugly, you’re short- those are literally just playground insults that made me feel like I was in elementary school again. He never cut deep and his best lines only ended up hurting him when Em came back at him. Also, he had a fuckin hook. Who tf puts a chorus in a diss track? Oh right, wannabes that don’t know what the fuck they’re doing ;)
Now for Eminem. Every. single. mother. fucking. line. of Killshot was straight up FIRE. There were no fillers, every line had meaning and more. Every single second of Killshot was dissing Kelly. I’ll be honest, when I first heard the track, I had just woken up and I’ll admit that I wasn’t that into it. I was like, damn, I was hoping Em would bring some fire but this is just okay. But then I actually focused, listened to it again, and I was blown away because I understood it more. I listened to it several more times too, just to make sure I didn’t miss anything and every time I listened to it, I found more hidden meanings and disses. Killshot has a million layers to it, something that MGK can’t even comprehend doing. Eminem is so good at coming up with double and triple entendres, where something has more than one meaning, and he credits that to reading the dictionary when he was little which just discredits Kellys line and makes him look stupid. For example, Jade a kiss/Jadakiss.
I can 100% understand people who are younger, who don’t understand the rap scene, and/or who are unwilling to listen and try to understand Killshot, saying that Rap Devil was better. I get it. It flows hard. But that also just gives more points to Em. Em didn’t have to have an entire production and a music video and a chorus to destroy MGK. Eminems disstrack was exactly that, a disstrack. Whereas MGKs disstrack was a song, it was for show, to get and attain attention. So of course people not familiar with rap will think MGKs was better.
Another point, Eminem is a lyrical genius. Most people, especially the younger generation, might not understand Killshot. Some of the lines are gonna go over peoples heads. Most of them certainly went over mine the first time around. For example, “Say you got me in a scope, but you grazed me, I say one call to Interscope and you’re Swayze“ my generation and the ones after it most likely aren’t going to understand that this is a reference to the early 90s movie, Ghost, that Patrick Swayze was in. Literally Em is just saying he can make one call to Interscope, who both Em and Kelly are signed to, and make Kelly disappear. That went over most peoples heads, just like a lot of the other lines that I won’t get into in this post since its already too long. If anyone wants me to break it down somewhere else, let me know, I’d be happy to.
And lastly, Eminem is showcasing is raw talent by having a simple beat that he pairs with numerous different styles. I would bet anything Kelly couldn’t have made a track like that, where the flow and style are switched up multiple times over the same beat. Killshot is just pure talent, and even if it’s not his best work, that really just shows how impressive it is and how weak Kelly is in comparison.
TLDR; MGKs disstrack sounded nice but didn’t have any deep punches and was more of a show than a diss. Eminem hit hard and obliterated Kelly lyrically, musically, and with pure talent.
So there you go. There’s my thoughts on the MGK Eminem beef. I’m impatiently waiting to see if Kelly is gonna attempt to fire back. I know he has a new album coming out but I don’t really wanna give him attention and credit by listening. So I’m gonna wait and see what the consensus on that is, if there is any. I think if Kelly does try and fire back, it either will not get very much attention and severely lack any real disses and would just overall get ignored and be deemed an L, or that it will have enough substance and Em would fire back even harder. But if he does try to fire back, I think it will be the former. But I think this is pretty much over now. I think MGK is having his 15 minutes of fame that will be over soon and Em is still King, still Rap God, and still on top.
