The Convocation is the unofficial governing body of the magical community of the American Federation. They have existed since 1697 (formed following the Salem Witch Trials) and are made up of representatives from five families, each representing each category of witchcraft. The Convocation was essential in the integration of the cities of the American Federation, and each representative of the Convocation served as a general during the Rosso-American War. Since the end of the war, they have meddled peripherally in the American Federationās governance, but they largely exist to protect the magical community, which is their priority. They also maintain the largest witchcraft archive in the American Federation, the American Archive of Magic and Witchcraft.
The Convocation is made up of representatives from five families: the Alvarez family, the Jiang family, the Dolinski family, the Benoit family, and the Prins family.Ā Every five years, leadership of the Convocation rotates between each family, though if a Convocation member dies during their leadership, it will pass to the next family. Currently, leadership of the Convocation rests with the Prins family, who assumed the position in 2177 and will serve until 2182.Ā
Convocation families are supported by a Sentry. The Sentry acts as guards to members of the Convocation and fulfills their will when they do not personally wish to be involved. As of 2179, are approximately one hundred and fifty wixen on the Sentry, and they often serve with dual roles as members of the Sentry and archivists at the American Archive of Magic and Witchcraft. About 80% of the Sentry are made up from the same families which have surrounded the Convocation for hundreds of years. Many of those families had direct experience with witchcraft trials in the colonial United States, even if they were perhaps not the targets of those trials themselves. These families act as a sort of ācourtā to the Convocation families
THE CONVOCATION SEATS & FAMILIES
There are strict rules for the five families. Each representative must practice the specific type of witchcraft that their family represents.
Convocation families are not allowed to marry or have children with each other. This is because each family must maintain a clear line of succession, and the early Convocation Representatives worried that a child born between two families would have too much power and be given a legitimate claim to represent them both.
Members of the Convocation are not exclusively limited to only study the form of witchcraft that they represent, but they must study it first. They train from an incredibly young age.
The current Convocation families represented on the Convocation are as follows:
ALCHEMY: The Alvarez Family
The alchemy seat in the Convocation is currently held by the Alvarez family. The current seat of the Alchemy family is the second oldest child of the late Luis Alvarez, taking the place of their oldest brother who was believed dead for almost a decade. Despite their brotherās return from the dead, they remain the head of the family and Convocation seat, attempting to squash rising voices of discontent.Ā
CONJURATION: The Jiang Family
The Conjuration seat is currently held by the Jiang family. The current seat is held by Olivia Jiang, who has only held the seat for the past six months, after her older brother and his wife passed away before they had any children.Ā
ELEMENTAL: The Dolinski Family
The Elemental seat is currently held by the Dolinksi famly. Matriarchal inheritance is a long standing tradition and the seat has incorporated various degrees of Jewish faith and traditions. Currently, Alinta Dolinski holds the seat.
NATURE: The Benoit Family
The Nature Seat on the Convocation currently belongs to the Benoit family. The current representative for the Benoit family is Sylvie Benoit, who has been the representative for the last year and a half. Her ascension was sudden, unexpected, and brought on from the untimely death of her father.
REALITY WARPING: The Prins Family
The Reality Warping Seat to the Convocation belongs to the Prins family. The current representative for the Prins family is Coriolanus Prins, who has been the representative for the last twenty years. He succeeded his father, Caius Prins, after his untimely death in the Rosso-American War.
The Convocation maintains the American Archive of Magic and Witchcraft (AAMW). The AAMW is a genuine archival collection that focuses on the preservation and documentation of historical and educational materials pertaining to the study of the five branches of witchcraft. They have the largest collection of witchcraft documents in the American Federation, and it is headquartered in a building in upper Manhattan.Ā
