You guys check this out! In Norse mythology, Slepnir is the eight legged horse of Odin. Here is a real life eight hoofed horse.
Most people are familiar with Polydactyly. Itâs when you have additional fingers or toes. Itâs very common in cats. But Polydactyly can occur in all vertebrates. In the horses, their hoof is actually a single finger. Through the course of evolution they have lost all of their fingers and toes except one on each foot.
So when Polydactyly develops in horses, they gain additional hooves.
These pictures were taken by Ferrucio Blengio who the farrier in Italy. It is unknown whether this horse got eight shoes or four. Other places to see my stuff: INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY
Fantasy Biology Masterlist
It was about time I made a simple list of all the Fantasy Biology posts Iâve done so far, collected in one place. Some of the oldest ones are a different format, before I started doing them regularly, but Iâve included them anyway.
The species for these posts have been chosen by my wonderful Patreon supporters, from as little as $1 a month.

A newborn cobra!Â
This angry pipistrelle was brought in to the centre after being found with a torn wing.
Although an injury like this looks bad, bat wings are very good at healing and, with cage rest and a course of antibiotics, this one should be back in the wild soon!
WARNING - Graphic content!
This poor hedgehog was rushed into our veterinary team with an horrific wound to its side. We are not sure how the injury happened, but the hog needed urgent treatment if it was to survive.
Luckily, hedgehogs have loose, stretchy skin and Maru was able to clean and close the wound and muscle with ease. The hedgehog is now recovering from its ordeal in one of our pens - all the signs are positive at this stage.

Wildlife Photography: When Animals Interrupt --Wildlife photography can be a hairy business. Swimming with sharks? Trailing tigers? Stalking rattlesnakes? Oh my! Other times, however, the biggest complication in getting the shot is simply a too-friendly beast.Â
