strange days, except not really | Maya & Sousuke
once a day, maya finds time in her oh-so-(not really)-busy schedule to walk around the city, taking in the sights and sounds that comprised the majority of her environment. toshi is the very epitome of normality… as long as she ignored the past events that she was happy to have missed and the current ones that still (still) makes her double-take on the spot.
(kidnappings and shootings and bombings and arsonists)
the constant rumors about the mayor, most of all.
speaking of the mayor though…
regardless of what she’s been hearing about the guy, well, maya can’t help but wonder about his choice of communication: namely, those doves. sparkles in her eyes flit to and from said animals when they pass overhead, and she doesn’t stop the fascination, lets herself shine with this mystery, a bubble of questions bursting out loud to the nearest stranger she could direct it to.
♫ “Hey, hey you! Is there something special about doves that made the mayor use them as the city’s poster animal? Wouldn’t eagles be better? Or chickens!”
pauses. breathes in. and then -
♫ “I could really go for some chicken right now… hey, hey, hey, do you know where the nearest chicken store is? Maybe they could sell some to me with a discount because the mayor likes doves, and they’re birds just like chickens, right? Right??”
Satisfied with his thorough investigation of the school, though also unsatisfied at having found nothing comparably unusual or strange about the campus, the sergeant looked to the city to continue his inspection. He carried the green sack as nonchalantly as he could, using the appearance of the school bag to cover the various dangerous weaponry held within it. Unfortunately, the teen simply could not understand the boundaries of civilian life, especially concerning the appropriateness of carrying arms.
Sousuke continued his way down the streets, a keen eye kept on all of his surroundings as he memorized street names and landmarks, when he heard a young female voice pierce the air of solitude that encompassed him under the cloud of his mission.
“Hey, hey you! Is there something special about doves that made the mayor use them as the city’s poster animal? Wouldn’t eagles be better? Or chickens!”
"I am not sure I have sufficient information to be able to provide an answer to your question. My apologies." As he turned to walk away, not wanting the civilian to become too involved with his mission, she spoke again.
“I could really go for some chicken right now… hey, hey, hey, do you know where the nearest chicken store is? Maybe they could sell some to me with a discount because the mayor likes doves, and they’re birds just like chickens, right? Right??”
"I believe it's..." A moment of thought before he continued. "...on the next block, ma'am. As for the discount, I cannot confirm that." Again, he turned to walk away when he realized that she had revealed some very important clues. A mayor that used doves as the city's poster animal...this mayor figure seemed to have a great liking to doves, a somewhat odd and arbitrary fact of the city's leader that the people knew of. Pivoting back to face the young girl, Sousuke inquired.
"Why does this...mayor...like doves so much?"
