Random Access Memories

Daft Punk released their worldwide overhyped album Random Access Memories this Monday. The expectations were big, after a lot of TV commercials and other kinds of hype. The album has, for some people, reached the expectations and for some it hasn’t. Most reviews has been giving the album 4 out of 5 stars, so that's pretty good. 

RMA is featuring a lot of great names, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Todd Edwards, Panda Bear from Animal Collective, DJ Falcon and so on. A lot of musicians are behind this album, and they are a part of the success. 

The album has many great tracks. We all know the first single Get Lucky. Besides that there is Lose Yourself To Dance, Give Life Back To Music and Giorgio by Moroder. All tracks a good way to start out with the album.

7 must see electronic concerts at Roskilde Festival 2013

If you are planning to go to this years Roskilde Festival or just interested in electronic music. Here is a guide to 7 electronic artists.

Flume: 

Flume is an Australian DJ/producer. His career started off, when he got a producing software out of a cereal box, at the age of 13. Today he is 21 and the man behind the self titled debut album "Flume" that came out in November 2012. If you have heard the name before, it is probably in connection with the song "Sintra".

Chase N Status:

Saul Milton(Chase) and Will Kennard(Status) are the men behind 'Chase N Status' and the hits "Blind Faith" and "Time" featuring Delilah. They are based in London, England, and have existed for about 10 years. The music is indicated as drum n bass/dubstep. They performed at Roskilde Festival back in 2011. This time they have a new album in the bag and they will perform at the biggest stage!

Baauer:

'The Harlem Shake' has dominated all over the internet this year. And this summer it is time for it to take over Roskilde Festival. The man behind the Scenes Harry Rodrigues is an American producer of Trap and Bass music. His hit list contain songs like 'The Harlem Shake', 'Dum Dum' and 'Higher'. He started out as a 13 year old boy and is now at the age of 24. I am pretty sure that he is ready to give the crowd an amazing night!

Disclosure: 

The English brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, is stopping by this years Roskilde Festival. They are mostly known for their single 'Latch'. They have another single called 'White Noise' together with AlunaGeorge, who is another great English band. Disclosure has supported SBTRKT and Hot Chip throughout their 2012 tours and they are releasing a debut album this June.

Broke:

The Danish guys Simon Littauer and Mads Bergland got together back in 2011and formed Broke. They became popular very fast with their first single 'Restless Beach' and have since then remixed a Spleen United track and made a single with the Danish girl MØ. This year they are ready to take the stage at Roskilde Festival.

Sekuoia:

Patrick Madsen also known as Sekuoia released his EP 'Trips' back in 2011. His popularity has not stopped growing since the EP. Sekuoia has shined through the electronic scene this year, by supporting VETO and Rangleklods on their tours. Sekuoia makes a lot of different remixes of danish artists. For example VETO. The remix part of the job plays a big role for Sekuoia. His most known track is called 'Something We Lost'.

ELOQ:

Last but not least we have the Danish producer ELOQ. He is a part of the Danish crew Cheff Records and he is a big name on the hip hop stage in Copenhagen. He has produced remixed tracks for MØ and made his own EP's and mix tapes.

We Were Born Canaries

They hang out in Copenhagen, Denmark. They are named We Were Born Canaries and by 'they' i refer to singer songwriter Stine Grøn and Producer Jakob Steen. The two musicians have been known as We Were Born Canaries since 2010. In 2012 they released their self titled debut album, which is free to download right HERE. 

We Were Born Canaries is most known for the single 'Go Cold Turkey'. It is a very popular song and it will quickly stuck in your head. They are still very new and they have a long journey ahead of them.

We Were Born Canaries plays at this years SPOT Festival in Aarhus. SPOT Festival takes place this very weekend.

Rhye

Rhye is a Los Angeles based indie duo. The members are the Canadian Mike Milosh and the Danish Robin Hannibal. Together they released the singles "Open" and "The Fall" and afterwards the debut album "Woman".

The album been warmly welcomed here in Denmark and we like Rhye's downtempo tunes a lot. Rhye is perfect when you want to sit back and relax, but at the same time, they can really get you in a good mood. Especially "The Fall".

There has been a lot of confusing talk about Daft Punk lately. The first piece of the cake is officially out. It has been named Get Lucky and it features Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. This song is all about having a good time and it is very funky and danceable. I like it very much and i can't be the only one who is excited for the rest of the album to come out.

The full line-up for Roskilde Festival got released this very evening. It contains 188 names, both the very famous artists and those who are not that big yet. A thing that surprised me a lot was that the German band Kraftwerk, who is known for their psychedelic scene show, will perform in 3D. Roskilde Festival have therefore obtained thousands of 3D glasses for the audience to wear. 

It would be hard to make a top 10 list of must see concerts, because of all the big names and such. So i will dig deep and try to mix up a top 10 list of upcoming bands that is a must see for me at this years Roskilde Festival. It will be out soon.

Yesterdays find | Rewolmer

Yesterday i was going through all the names of this years Roskilde Festival and i found this danish fella. He goes by the name Rewolmer. His real name is Jeppe Lauritsen and he is based in Copenhagen. Rewolmer has released one EP with the title "Error Perfect". It is free and you can download it right HERE. "Error Perfect" consists of his own three songs "One", "Two", "Three" and two remixes. 

His music is electronic and he plays all the instruments and synths by himself. The EP is a very good start and i think he is worth keeping an eye on.

James Blake - Overgrown

James Blake's second album Overgrown came out two days ago and I haven't done anything else than listened to it all the time. Overgrown is a fantastic album. James Blake really did his job good. I know that it has got many great reviews from different magazines. If i should make review of the album, I would also give it full marks. 

After hearing the album a lot i think "Life Round Here" has become my favorite of them all. It was a very close run and I had a hard time picking my favorite amongst the others.

Love And Respect ft. Killer Mike

This is the latest single from When Saints Go Machine's forthcoming album "Infinty Pool". The album is being released May 20 and it is WSGM's third studio album. I really don't know which expectations to have for this album. WSGM has made a huge improvement from "Ten Makes A Face" to "Konkylie" and that could easily happen again. I am really excited to hear the rest of the album in late May and there will be much more about that later on.

Nr. 1 - VETO

  Veto are without doubt my favorite Danish band. As i wrote earlier, they started my passion and curiosity for music. I have had them on my iPod since i was about 11 years old. I have always enjoyed their music and been looking forward to every of their releases. Because I have written about VETO in an earlier post, I wont give you all that information once again. All you can have is some pictures of the band!

Nr. 2 - Rangleklods

Esben Andersen AKA Rangleklods is a danish indie-pop/electronic artist. He is at the moment based in Berlin, Germany, because he loves the clubs in Germany and it is one of the places where you have room to do experiments with your music and try some new stuff. Rangleklods is one of those persons in the music business that i look the most up to. I think he is so cool in the things he do and i like his way of making music. All the technology that is involved in his songs and it is just incredible that he can manage all his electronic equipment and in the same time be in the vocal. I have seen him perform live twice so far and i am especially fan of this one instrument that he got. In the last part of both concerts he is using it. It is a small white platform, maybe 15x15 cm. It got three lights, red, green and blue and when he got his hand over the light and move it up and down the music kind of wobbles. It is like the Star Wars movies, the thing they can do with their hands. I think i got a video of it for those who are interested in seeing it, maybe i will post it here one day. Rangleklods is not only presented by Esben Andersen. On his side he got his girlfriend Pernille Smith-Iversen who sings in a one man choir. She is very talented also. Rangleklods released an EP in 2011 and his first album in 2012. It got named "Beekeeper" and it is filled with Esben's dark voice and his very unusual rythm. It is pure geniusness. I remember that i have read, that Rangleklods is releasing new stuff in April. I am not 100% sure that it is in April, but whenever it is i am really looking forward to hear it. 

The video is recorded at his concert at Roskilde Festival. He persuaded to get a party going on even though his concert was at 12 AM and the crowd was very excited.

Nr. 3 - The Floor Is Made Of Lava

Tobias Kippenberger and the rest of the guys from "The Floor.." started back in 2006. They are from Esbjerg on the Danish west coast. "The Floor.." is a rock band and they are characterized by Tobias Kippenberger's great and strong vocal. The guys are inspired by "The Who", "The Stooges", "Bruce Springsteen" and "Oasis". "The Floor.." released their debut album in 2007 with the title "All Juice No Fruit" which was produced by, earlier mentioned, Troels Abrahamsen. A great debut album with lots of rock and roll. They released their second album "Howl At The Moon" in 2010, produced by Sebastian Wolff from "Kellermensch". The third album got released in 2012. "Kids & Drunks" was the title of it. All in all three very successful and different albums each in its own way. If you hear the albums in the full length, you can in a way hear how the band has developed, improved and changed the way of playing rock music. "The Floor.." has been warm-up band for "Oasis" and "AC/DC".

Nr. 4 - Troels Abrahamsen

In 1983 came one of Denmark's most talented producers to the earth. His name is Troels Abrahamsen. Today he is a man with a lot of energy and he has always got something going on. He has been the lead singer in the Danish band VETO since 2004. In 2007 he released his first solo project under the alias SuperTroels. It was named "I Know That You Know". In 2009 Troels released his first solo album named "WHT". The year after that he released another album. This time named "BLCK". A bit darker than "WHT". Both albums is full of lyrics from Troels' poetic and messed mind. Every word has a meaning in these songs and it is very relaxing and thought-provoking to listen to. Troels released his third album in 2011 with the title "Unset". An album which has the same genre relations as "WHT" and "BLCK". In addition to those three albums, Troels has also released some side projects. "Husvild#1", "Husvild#2" and "1B1D", which is songs without lyrics. Troels Abrahamsen is known for always having a beard and for wrapping the mic cord around his arm while performing. 

The song is from his third album "Unset" and it is a very beautiful song which is also my favorite one!

Nr. 5 - Efterklang

Efterklang was born in the year 2000 in Copenhagen. They play indie rock music and are very popular worldwide. In the 2000's Efterklang released three albums, "Tripper", "Parades" and "Magic Chairs", where the last-mentioned was the most successful. "Magic Chairs" includes singles as "Modern Drift" and "Full Moon". In 2012 Efterklang presented and released their fourth album "Piramida". It was recorded on an abandoned russian-owned island called Piramida. Efterklang premiered "Piramida" at the Sydney Opera House. They are afterwards making a documentation on their visit to the island called "The Ghost Of Piramida". I was totally in love with the idea of making an album on an abandoned album, using materials from it. You need a very big talent to create such things and that is what Efterklang has got. That is also one of the reasons for being number 5 on my top ten list! 

The video is a short clip from making the song "Dreams Today" where one of the three members actually runs on a kind of bridge made of wood, while recording. The part where he runs on the bridge is in the start of the song and it is so wonderful to see how many ways you can make music in.

Nr. 6 - When Saints Go Machine

When Saints Go Machine is an electro-pop group of four members. They are a very great band, based in Copenhagen. Their music can be marked as soul, electronic and melancholy. When Saints started it all with a self titled EP in 2008. In 2009 they released their first album "Ten Makes A Face". It was characterized by lots of beats and pop atmosphere in contrast to their second album "Konkylie". "Konkylie" was released in 2011 and was very popular when came out. Not only in Denmark, but also internationally. I think that by making "Konkylie", When Saints took a big step as a band. They kind of changed their music from the pop and disco to what was more them. When Saints certainly brought out Nikolaj Vonsild's beautiful voice on "Konkylie" and it is always a pleasure to listen to. When Saints received "P3 Guld"'s talent prize in 2008 and a prize as the best danish producer in 2012. In the summer of 2010 When Saints was the opening act at "Orange Scene" on that years Roskilde Festival. When Saints published that a new album is on the way by the title "Infinty Pool". It should be released in May.

The video is a short documentary about the making of "Konkylie". It's very fascinating and i would wish that there was more. The making of the album makes it a much more greater album.

Nr. 7 - Spleen United

Spleen United is an electro-pop band based in Copenhagen. They started back in 2005. Their debut album came out the same year with the title "Godspeed Into Mainstream". The debut album contains the singles "Heroin Unltd", "In Peak Fitness Condition" and "Spleen United". Three years later released Spleen United their second album "Neanderthal". The producer of the album Michael Patterson has earlier produced for "Beck" and "Black Rebel Motorcycle Club". The single "Suburbia" from their second album was the most played song the Danish radio channel P3 in 2008. After releasing the third album "School Of Euphoria" Spleen United played a 24 hour long concert at Roskilde Festival 2012. Minimum one member of the band had to play an instrument in every 24 hour. It should have been pretty impressing.
