VICARIOMIX 04 — 4004
4004 aka Gerardo Tepetitlan, is a Mexican American DJ and producer living in Tijuana's neighbor beach town of Rosarito, Mexico. 4004 is known for his deep house sound a la MCDE, Moodymann and Theo Parrish. He has many releases on FACES Records and Quintessentials. He's one of the Vicario founders, so we made him a couple of questions so you know him better
Interview:
1. Hey 4004! What’s up? Please tell us about this mix.
I definitely went back to the roots with this mix, mostly aimed towards that Chicago house sound of the 90’s. Something personal, just to bring back that nostalgic era that has a special place in my heart.
2. When did you start DJing?
Roughly around 06-07 one of my good friends purchased a pair of stanton t.50 and we quickly jumped on them. We had a small random record collection at the time(van helden, franck roger, de crecy etc.) Been playing ever since.
3. When was your first gig?
First gig unclear. Around 2007 at the infamous 5ta parties(Downtown Tijuana). Those were some crazy parties uncut and uncensored. Shout-out to Peluza, LEGEND.
4. Favorite party you’ve ever played?
Tough one but I have to say Boiler Room back in 2013(CDMX). My brothas Soul of Hex and I had a blast, such a sublime experience!
5. Who’s your favorite DJ?
Hands down Dj Ron Trent. He will certainly take you on a deep and sophisticated journey. I haven’t had the opportunity to see him live yet, still looking out. Such an amazing Dj, in the words of the mam himself, “Freedom music!”
6. And favorite producer?
Forever Danilo Plesslow aka Motor City Drum Ensemble. Who can resist the soulful vocal cuts being lead by those crunchy rhodes and rolling drums?! Those first ‘Raw Cuts’ he released were the riding force that inspired me to curate my 4004 project(#3 my fav). Thanks Danilo!
7. Where would you love to play?
Europe is on the map, France. I have to get out there with the FACES Records crew from Lyon and book something asap!
8. Last question! What’s next for 4004?
MUSIC. Im really excited for my Vicario EP debut which I’ve been working on for the past year. After going back and forth, diving into new composition techniques and really expressing myself to the fullest, I think it’s finally time to share these tracks with the world! It’s going to be amazing! Thank you!
