Padre's World: The Kingdom of God is when nurses, health care workers, national guard community organizers, volunteers, faith organizers, and politicians coming together to vaccine our underserved communities. The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist was honored to stand side by side with our siblings from Iglesia Episcopal Jesus de Nazaret and Fr José Rodríguez to help in this past Saturday's Vaccination Event. Over 500 people were vaccinated in our underserved and left out populations in vaccinations. When The Good Rector looked out and saw all this Good Trouble happening, I said: This is The Kingdom of God! Padre's World: Yesterday, on Ash Wednesday, The Episcopal Church of St John the Baptist began the journey into a Holy Lent as we reflected on where the Triune God is calling us into in this season of transformation. The Good Rector's Sermon was based on Isaiah 58. In Lent, we are called to deny ourselves and give of ourselves in new ways to help others. We are asking for your support. It takes around 3000 dollars a month or the food equivalent to feed over 250+ a week. We are asking for food donations and financial donations to carry on this important work. Padre's World: Yesterday was the Feast of Epiphany where the Church celebrates the Magi visiting the Word made Flesh in Baby Jesus. They are warned in a dream, defy a hostile King, and go back home another way. Like the Magi on Epiphany, we have to go another way, live another way because of our encounter with the Word made Flesh. This way is The Way of Love that casts out fear and does not capitulate Christ to Caesar. Padre's World: The Good Rector cannot let this World AIDS Day pass without remembering our brothers, sisters, and siblings who live with HIV/AIDS and those who have passed away from this disease. I especially want to remember my father, The Rev E T Myers Jr, who 25 years ago passed away with this disease. It is his passing that has so shaped my vocation to challenge the Church to care for those who are considered marginalized and amply the voices of the disenfranchised. Padre's World: Today is Giving Tuesday and The Episcopal Church of St John the Baptist and The Good Rector invites those who feel led to give to our food pantry. Since the Pandemic began we have been feeding over 250+ individuals a week. We deliver to about 40 households a week. We spend about 2000 dollars every two weeks in food. We have been blessed in this Holiday Season that we have not had to pay for food. However, that will end at the first of the new year and this is when our friends and neighbors will need it the most. In the Holiday Season, many people give generously in many ways to nonprofits and we are thankful for that. However, at the first of the year, food drives become fewer and it rests upon those nonprofits like Churches to continue to feed and feel in the gap. Padre's World: The Good Padre would like to thank everyone who made his 39th and now holding Birthday special, especially my wife Monique Myers. The day started off with breakfast with Bishop David and Pastor Tia ( David Tia Maldonado) at the Maple Street Biscuit Company. Then Monique lured me to the Episcopal Church of St John the Baptist where there was a surprise lunch for me provided by Mrs Mable Butler. Then that evening, Monique and I went out Fr José Rodríguez and Heather Washburn Rodriguez to eat wonderful Middle Eastern food at the Flame Kabob.
