i think the jason we see in the dlc is out of character to some degree, but in a way that makes sense for the jason that exists inside vaas' head to be out of character. like jason as an actual person doesn't... banter? i guess? with vaas as much as he does in the dlc. like jason would actually most likely be like 'fuck off fuck this what's happening' than how he is. but in this setting it's more about how vaas sees jason than how he actually is

since the dlc is now out vaas independently coming up with the concept of the panopticon because jason would absolutely hate it. okay king

There’s this sickening kind of resentment that lives in your stomach, always trying to claw up and out through your mouth. People think they are entitled to your time and your being simply because you exist, which makes you feel both seen and entirely invisible at the same time. It feeds that anger inside of you, and it is a matter of time, every time, before that resentment turns sour, climbs out of your lungs, and rears its head at whoever is closest. This is your home. You’re the keeper of this house, and, in turn, it keeps you.

jason loves his friends. jason loves liza. jason loved his brothers. jason couldn't give less of a shit about them. jason's entire motivations revolve around them. jason hasn't sat down to talk to anyone without a purpose since they landed. jason doesn't understand that 'i would kill for you, i would die for you' is sentiment that doesn't mean much on its own. jason hasn't been to the cave in days. jason takes hallucinogens everytime he does. jason loves his friend group, but doesn't know if he cares about them. jason thinks they care about him, but doesn't know if they love him.

OKAY you know how i talk about in citra's story, jason (and vaas subsequently) aren't the warrior fighting the giant, but the dagger that he wields.

okay so. like. vaas as a kid changing the story so instead the warrior uses a gun. he's not changing what he, the warrior does. no cause citra is the warrior. he's changing who he is in the story.
