I just finished the Ashen series and let me tell you Kassandr Rurik is one of my favorite love interests ever. Dare I say he might join Roiben as one of the best.

Jonas/Rey were so predictable I just wanted to skip over their chapters. Evil blonde man who was kind at first and shadow daddy who was cruel at first because he "liked you." It just reminded me of "he picks on you and pulls your hair because he loves you." Ive heard it my whole life, being groomed into showing cruel men love they didnt earn. But the rest of the plot was entertaining to stick around.

But Kassandr. 🥰 With the exception of a bad joke that didnt land well at the very beginning, he always had Sagas back. Hes chaotic, insane, loyal, protective, and sickeningly patient. His methods are questionable at best sometimes but its never out of malice. The perfect character he reminded me off was Jason Mantzoukas, specifically his character as Rosas boyfriend in Brooklyn99 (im going off vibes, I havent watched that show in 5 years lmao).

I know Kass didnt have a beard but he had the chaotic vibe of Adrian Piemento it was amazing. Imagine this guy with green eyes and no beard^ but demeanor and attitude is spot on.

I hope the next book has more Kass and Saga in it they are my favorite ❤️❤️❤️

(Also, a side not to consider is that there are good / pleasing designs that aren't super reliant on super high contrast. Don't get me wrong. Contrast is great and I love it but I think sometimes design gets a bit more complicated then "you always need to use the most high contrast thing possible. Obviously, don't make all your characters a single color blob but making a character I walking polkadate rainbow in the name of "contrast" wouldn't inherently be good either).

Also, it's weird that this is happening (although less frequently (even to now) but I loathe those fucking jokes where a character "can say the n-word" or "dresses up as a black character" because they have a tan now. IDK how to explain it perfectly other than the fact that they aren't even Black makes a lot of these jokes weird enough.

The Road of Bones: Spoilers!

I knew from the character descriptions every damn "twist" and betrayal in this book. Let me guess she falls in love with the blonde man first, he betrays her and she ends up being truly in love with the dark haired shadow daddy who treated her like shit for most of the book.

I am so tired of this trope. I am trying to get back into books released this century but its so fucking predictable. Each one is the damn same.

I otherwise liked the book but I am on book 2 and still hate Rey. They keep blaming a scared woman who is doing her best to figure out what the fuck is going on just because they are infatuated with her. They chose to help her and when shit went wrong they blamed her. Both of the love interests are small worthless men.

I havent actually cried for a character like this since Wren (The stolen heir, Holly black). Silla is trying her best and still falling flat. My baby.

I hope she burns Rey and Jonas at the fucking stake. Its not cute to be this cruel.

my other favorite pro tip: you can block people who send you anons only if you don't answer the ask. in your inbox, you can click the three little dots on the ask and block the sender from there (which also makes the message immediately disappear), though they won't show up in your blocked list to retain their anonymity. it's some kind of test of moral fortitude, like you can only banish this fool if you decline the chance to get the last word, but you can easily have your cake and eat it too by screenshotting the ask or copying the text or something first.

third pro tip: blocking here serves to make it so the person you block can't interact with you, it doesn't hide the person you blocked from your view, so if you want to do that then you should add their url to your filtered post content. not filtered tags, filtered post content.
