Hi, if you don’t know who I am (which is most likely true and okay) my name is Twit (hi im twit/WhatTwitPlays/Twitification) I’m a Full time YouTuber & Streamer on Twitch!
I’m gonna write this post on behalf of ALL CONTENT CREATORS because it’s really starting to get out of hand. If you enjoy watching *FREE* streams/youtube videos and you happen to notice a “Donation/Support” button on your favorite content creators page and decide you’d like to make a monetary donation to help that content creator keep creating, THEN MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING. Donations, while helpful and of course greatly appreciated come coupled with NOTHING BUT STRESS. Why you ask? It’s because of the people that chargeback donations and/or use an account unauthorized (eg. Kid logs into his Mom’s PayPal, donates $10 = Mom flips out) to donate from. You might think “Well, technically it’s not your money, what’s the big deal? Just give them the money back and go on about your way.”
For those of you that don’t know, PayPal charges a $20 processing fee for ALL chargebacks. Regardless of the amount.
So, now you have a person(s) that donates anywhere from $1 to $100 but decides they want their money back. Now not only does it suck to have that money taken back, but NOW we have to pay an additional $20 per transaction. So therefore, we’re not simply giving the money back to you, it’s costing that Content Creator money out of their own pocket to cover for the chargeback.
The worst part about these situations, is there is literally NO SUPPORT from Paypal about this issue. On top of that, if someone starts the chargeback process, Paypal doesn’t notify the account holder being charged back of the open case and will AUTOMATICALLY draft the needed cover fees for that transaction.
The bottom line: It’s not cool, please don’t fucking do it.
