Plainly put some of you saw a trans girl doing something bad and ran with it. This has never been about "accountability", or "helping victims". This is a hate mob. They have transformed the story into a narrative of unrepentant rapist (actual words actual people have used again and again). This isn't just factually wrong, it's also deeply transmisogynystic, invoking the spectre of the "dangerous rapist tranny" to attack someone.

This is plain transmisogyny. I expect better from the rest of you than to accept that.

Do we have a right to know? Does harm need to be not simply public, but actively publicised for years, even after it has been adressed? Is this then a campaign that we should support? Is this information an account without moral weight, or is part of an ongoing pattern? Do we, really, have a right to know? To be spreading this, years after it has been adressed?

Do we have a reason to act? Has the crime been too horrid, has sarah been too dangerous, too unrepentant, that she must be removed from all communities, lest she be a danger to those around her? Is this how you see her, then? A danger? Is this judgment fair, unbiased, or is it a hate mob?

Should she be removed from her job? Is this something we have the right to do, remove a girl from her only source of income, her only way to live? Is she dangerous enough that she must not work anymore? Is sarah so much a "danger", for her "unrepentant" "crimes" that she must die?

Are the hate messages in my inbox, calling me a rape apologist, a disgusting man, or a pedophile, sent by people rightfully upset? Are they simply trying to apply anti-carceral justice, and upset that i would not accept to remove myself from her, to make her yet more isolated? Are they right, or is this a hate mob?

What terrible crime is worth the punishment that seems reserved only for transgender women? Why indeed is it only trans women that are punished? Do we see cis people, broken down, torn up, like this? Trans men, to anywhere near the same fequency?

Are trans women just that more dangerous than non trans women? Is this just "actually not a hate mob this time it's real", for the thousandth time?

Or is this a transmisogynist hate mob?

They’re so fucking confident in their transmisogyny just being the status quo default expectation that they just treat participation in their harassment campaigns as something you have to verbally opt-out of. Which is of course is then the same as endorsing the person they’re harassing, which makes you a target too.

No one is saying that trans men aren’t oppressed for being trans. What you seem to be getting mad at here is the idea that trans men experiencing misogyny is a result of them being seen as women, which is true. When trans men are seen as men, most of the time, they are beneficiaries of misogyny.

Trans men are absolutely oppressed for being trans, the feminism you seem to be misquoting there is that they’re not oppressed for being men, which is unequivocally true. Second, there’s no such thing as trans neutral. You’re transitioning in a direction. Third, you seem to imply that racism is a form of anti man discrimination which is not true. You need to reread Crenshaw.

Tma/tme is only a binary insofar as it refers to two categories. It simply determines whether someone is systematically oppressed through transmisogyny. You seem to be under the impression that there are no other types of systematic oppression. Which is why you see not being tma as saying you don’t get discriminated against for being trans, which no one is saying. Again, you do not experience oppression for being a man.

Here you’re being misogynistic and also referring to ladies as guys. Which speaks to seeing men as the default.

This post is just blatantly incoherent and speaks to a flawed understanding of intersectionality which can be fixed by reading Crenshaw again.

npr ran a story this morning on air about the recent supreme court ruling in favor of trans youth sports bans, a ruling that specifies trans girls in particular and allows even public schools in red states to do whatever kind of exclusionary policy they want. and for this story they interviewed two people: a teenage trans boy in massachusetts who participates in tons of school sports, and an activist trans man in nyc who runs a nonprofit for trans youth. I'm not saying that either of these people have absolutely nothing pertinent to say about trans youth issues, but the teenager from MA mostly spoke about how lucky *he* is to participate in sports and the activist from NYC spent the entire interview plugging the book he wrote while barely answering a single question. The activist guy mentioned that he actually has spoken to the west virginian trans girl who was part of the case, but only to say how proud/sad he is to watch her become an activist "just like him".

not to be a critic, but its crazy to me that they could not speak either TO or ABOUT the people affected by this ruling (trans girls in conservative areas) at all. a combination of transmisogyny and shitty reporting means that the takeaway from that segment seemed to be "well, it sucks, but at least blue states are still allowed to be accepting of trans youth" rather than the very real attempts to eradicate trans people from public life or the very real possibility of violent retaliation against trans girls in these states.

during the activist's interview, the radio host asked him if he could quickly dispel some of the myths around trans youth in sports somehow being unfair to cis youth, and his response was to awkwardly shrug off the question and say that the answer is simply too "complicated and nuanced" to give a short soundbite on air about. are you fucking kidding me? live on WNYC with about 1 million weekly listeners, and you can't just say with your whole chest that trans girls belong in girls sports because they are girls too? come on
