The little champion keeps their arms folded, glowering at the offered card rather than taking it.

Sure, Giovanni is patient. But Ree is stubborn as anything, and once they make a decision, they’re hard pressed to change their mind about it.

Unstoppable force VS immovable object, and all.

“You don’t have ta try and butter me up or patronize me,” they reply instead. “I hate it when people try to suck up when they’re not bein’ truthful. As for what I need, I can pro’lly get whatever I need by myself. I don’t need you for that.”

The staunch refusal earns a chuckle and Giovanni stows his card away again.

They remind him of Silver, almost. Less open hatred but the distrust and hostility is reminiscent of his son.

He looks forward to seeing how high they manage to climb before the inevitable fall.

"That wasn't my intention. But I won't press since you're uninterested. Either way, I plan on keeping an eye on your career. You've accomplished much in a short time. Either you'll continue to rise, or you'll crash out. It's what comes for all trainers of a certain caliber."

They do not trust grownups as far as they could throw them.

especially grownups they can’t get a read on. Like this guy. They’re suspicious, hackles raised and ready to fight or flight, but the man has … never really given Ree a reason. It’s all gut instinct.

But Ree always trusts their gut.

“I have sponsors,” they say, folding their arms, clearly trying to match Giovanni’s energy. “I don’ think you’d be bringin’ anythin’ to the table I need.”

Still, Giovanni isn't an impatient man. He's managed Rocket on the down low for as long as he has for a reason. The best way to get a riled Meowth to settle was to wait them out.

Children aren't much different.

"That certainly makes sense." He pulls a card from his pocket, offering it out to them. "I'm not expecting an immediate response. I'd be disappointed if you accepted immediately. What do you need?"

He's not going to beat around the bush with her. Her reputation proceeds her, he will treat her with the respect her position and achievements have earned her. It is impossible to know what stories of him have reached beyond Kanto and it's League - best to assume she had heard the worst of him and work from there.
