this blog recognizes all pokemon media and incorporates it into a smoothie of hell. this means team rocket is a threat, but people like jessie, james, and meowth are also in it.

knowledge of giovanni's crimes and ties aren't widespread, and he is still able to make public appearances. unless your character is in a position that they would know about his ties to rocket, they shouldn't

Just for a second it seems like she's doubting in going forward, as if Giovanni would see it as an offense instead of a -weird and unprompted- compliment.

"Ah, should I believe your words, if that's the case?"

It's a blow to his pride, even now, to admit as such. Despite that, he'd come out of his depression and isolation more determined than ever before.

a cruel and ruthless team rocket can coexist with those goofballs. the anime shows it too.

because here's the thing. if the first thing people think about when they think team rocket is jesse and james's usual shenanigans (which are effective until plot armor/overconfidence gets them), then the people who don't deal with rocket think of them as silly and incompetent. they don't look in the shadows where the real work is happening.

they annoy giovanni, but he adjusted to have them report directly to him (and matori) for a reason. they're incredibly competent at times, and even when they're not it's been able to serve the greater goals of the time.

plus, they're loyal. loyalty goes a long way.

the question isn't exactly what it seems, more an early assessment for how useful a person will be to him. he's learned much in his time since his defeat.

Might be a bridge too far there, but, hell. Ree doesn’t feel like they’re in danger. And if they did, they have their black fog buddies hidden in their shadow to take care of the problem. They don’t have to be afraid of this guy.

“You better keep both eyes on me, or else I’ll climb so high an’ so fast that you’ll lose track.”

An admission freely given. Part of being an adult is admitting to one's past shortcomings. And while the true reason for giving up his position as a gym leader wasn't public knowledge, his disappearance from the professional training circles was.

Sure, Giovanni is patient. But Ree is stubborn as anything, and once they make a decision, they’re hard pressed to change their mind about it.

The staunch refusal earns a chuckle and Giovanni stows his card away again.

They remind him of Silver, almost. Less open hatred but the distrust and hostility is reminiscent of his son.

He looks forward to seeing how high they manage to climb before the inevitable fall.

"That wasn't my intention. But I won't press since you're uninterested. Either way, I plan on keeping an eye on your career. You've accomplished much in a short time. Either you'll continue to rise, or you'll crash out. It's what comes for all trainers of a certain caliber."

especially grownups they can’t get a read on. Like this guy. They’re suspicious, hackles raised and ready to fight or flight, but the man has … never really given Ree a reason. It’s all gut instinct.

But Ree always trusts their gut.

“I have sponsors,” they say, folding their arms, clearly trying to match Giovanni’s energy. “I don’ think you’d be bringin’ anythin’ to the table I need.”

Still, Giovanni isn't an impatient man. He's managed Rocket on the down low for as long as he has for a reason. The best way to get a riled Meowth to settle was to wait them out.

"That certainly makes sense." He pulls a card from his pocket, offering it out to them. "I'm not expecting an immediate response. I'd be disappointed if you accepted immediately. What do you need?"
