“I can’t drink that much.” she shook her head before she noticed it was Debbie Downer from the other day and made a face at the other. “Pretty sure I bought and empty bottle.” she nodded but felt a bit dizzy doing it. Viv took a few steps further and ended up feeling how much she actually swayed. “I’m warm.”

Knowing better than to argue with someone who was drunk, Viv nodded her head at the statement that the other couldn’t drink that much because the whole staggering with a bottle made that clear. “I’m not sure you did, but maybe we go inside and figure it out?” Brows raising as she watched the girl sway, she gave in and moved forward to reach out in order to try and steady her. “Well I haven’t maybe had a bottle of wine so I’m not warm.”

“Ugh why is this empty?” Vivienne groaned drunkenly as she walked down the street, tired of putting people out to stay at their places, and a little bit cold, but not so much anymore since she started drinking some.

Viv had been the last one cut that night, so she’d expected silence when she walked out of the bar. Instead, she got little Mary Sunshine from the other day coming down the street. Most of her wanted to go about her business, but the rest of her took over. “I’m going to go with because you drank it.” Glancing around for help, someone to pass this off to, she sighed when she saw no one. “Come on, let’s go somewhere less cold,” Viv offered, holding her hand out.

“Okay I loved the 80’s but I do agree, I don’t want our place to go up in flames.” She said with a chuckle. Looking around the hotel room she leaned against the door. “That is a statement that could never be more true.” Sophia said.

“I mean it’s a nice room, but I don’t know if I would trust the staff to of fully cleaned everything.” She said standing up away from the frame. She noted that Viv didn’t have much, but she knew that Viv was just always ready to split. “At least soon you’ll have your own bed that you can trust. Probably a lot better to sleep in then that.” She said.

As she tried to make a list of the things she’d taken from her bags, Viv nodded over her shoulder at Sophia. “It won’t make anything better if I point out that the “Things to do” pamphlet on the dresser is from 1996.”

“You don’t have to be nice. It’s a shithole. It’s not like I decorated it or cleaned it or... It’s another in a list that I wouldn’t be shocked to hear if it burned to the ground. But it did what it had to.” She explained, crossing the room to grab her laptop and the charger, which she coiled as she moved back to the other bag. “Yeah, it’ll be nice to not wonder if I need a blacklight to check my comforter. And don’t tell me you have one in the trunk because I like sleep not nightmares. So if we go in here, I’m going to be that neurotic roommate that needs to check everything even if it was just unwrapped.”

“A debutante you say? I can see it, you’d give the princess from The Princess Diaries a run for her money. Before you clown on me for knowing about that movie, it’s my mom’s favorite. She loves Julie Andrews. So you didn’t do the whole debut I’m guessing? Ran away to be a badass behind a bar? Yes, I love when I’m right, well if you’re in the mood for a tour. I can arrange that. I highly advise you avoid the diner. They serve the worst shit there.”

“I wasn’t going to clown you about knowing the movie, but I was a little insulted that you basically just told me that I need a makeover.” Viv frowned and shook her head, not sure if she’d just been insulted or not. “I didn’t debut, but I did do eighteen years of the perfect image of a southern belle. One that didn’t need a makeover, even as a runaway.” After a quick look to be sure no one was begging for her attention, Viv leaned onto the bar. “Tell me about this diner because I’m going to need to eat after I leave and I’m not really equipped to cook at this hour. What’s the thing that won’t kill me?”

“Come on, if we are about to join each other in this adventure, we might as well get to know little facts.” He shrugged, offering her a small smile. “Why Wisteria of all places?” He questioned, trying to make some sort of conversation with her. “Oh, I might get myself in trouble for reasons completely not related to this. But okay, if he end up causing some sort of trouble, we embark in that adventure together.” He nodded.

“Why do you think I told you if not because you’re helping me on this adventure?” Viv raised a brow at him, typically not one to disclose more of her past than needed. His next question was definitely one of those little facts that didn’t need an honest answer, so she just shrugged. “Someone mentioned it while I was on vacation and I was bored of Boston,” she answered quickly since it was half of the truth. “I can’t promise that I’ll be able to stop you from a different adventure, but I’ll get in the middle if the adventure is related to me,” Viv promised, right hand quickly making a cross over her heart.

todd was definitely floored, the last person he expected to see was her.. but here she was. intrigue and confusion were two emotions that were swimming through him and the male gestured to the seat across from her. “ do you mind?” he asks, wetting his lips while his weight is shifted from one foot to the other and his gaze is landing back on her. “ wisteria of all places.. well, welcome to town then. don’t worry i didn’t think you were stalking me, but if that were the case i wouldn’t blame you.” it was said as a joke, smirk curling upon his lips.

She minded, mostly because she had hoped that the first time they’d crossed paths would open the door to leaving but given the current circumstances and seeing him again, Viv didn’t really mind. “Go ahead. I think I’m approaching weird loner timing here anyhow,” she answered, nodding her head to indicate he should sit.  “If it were a place where fewer clothes were necessary and it was normal to consume insane amounts of rum then I probably would’ve considered it. But unfortunately, it’s Canada.”

“ that depends.. what is it that you need help with?” alice asked, her intrigue was getting the better of her and if it wasn’t something that put her out too much, she would help. “ a drink would make us even, no need to clean my house.” 

It was a fair question, so Viv laughed and shrugged. “Just a distraction. No one is facing any kind of jail time or needs to be fed to the...” Pausing, her eyes drifted to the guy she was avoiding. “Well, it’d be unfair to the wolves to call him that.” Drumming her fingers on the bar, she shrugged again. “I’m not going to ask you to go all in, but I can definitely have to remake whatever your drinking until he gets distracted.”

“I smelled the cloud of Axe the moment I walked in. No one ever reads the directions right for that product so you shouldn’t be surprised about it. Yep, that’s what I’m calling him from now on. Would you believe me if I told you I used to be a lord in my high school’s Dungeons and Dragons club? I’ve always been into constructing places and mythical creatures. I own a construction company so I lived up to my skill set after all. I wouldn’t mind a glass of your best ale. You’re pretty yourself so thanks for going along with my antics. You new around here? I only ask because I’ve lived here my whole life. College wasn’t for me. I just job shadowed and did the whole try and fail on your thing.”

  “I probably wouldn’t believe that but people can surprise you. I mean, would you believe that the girl you’re saving from breaking someone’s nose was supposed to be a debutante?” Viv asked, picking up a glass and looking at the taps. None of them were what she’d call fine, even as a joke so in the end she went with the one she figured was the least terrible. “I’m about three days in, so you caught me. And maybe a little bit of a flatterer,” She answered, watching the tap closely before easing it back and setting the glass down. “There’s nothing wrong with the try and fail method to life as long as you get back up.”

Adrian got curious to what she said, wondering where she had came from and why she was in Wisteria from all places. “Dual citizen? Where are you from, if you don’t mind me asking?” He knew he had gotten himself in a complicated situation with her question and he being all ok with it, now there was no backing off. “Hmmmm okay, as long as it doesn’t get me in too much trouble, I’m in.”

“Usually I would mind, but you’re doin’ me a favor so I guess you can know I’m from Georgia, darlin’,” Viv explained, drawing on the overly exaggerated drawl that she used whenever it suited her. Wisteria was an odd destination for her, but she had her reasons. Breaking the routine, she laughed and shook her head at the idea that he’d get in trouble. “You’re fine, I’m not setting you up for trouble. If Gary Grabass over there tries again then I might ask you to kiss me—or let me kiss you, but I’m not asking you up to take a fall for anything.”

Sophia looked over as she saw Viv duck her head back into the car. “Okay.” She said with a smile. “Maybe seeing how bad the decoration of this hotel room is will let me know how not to furnish our new place.” She said with a chuckle as she turned off the car.

Climbing out of it she locked it before joining Viv by her side. “Lead on. Cause I have no clue which room had your stuff in it.” She said.

Viv tilted her head towards the stairs before starting to climb them. “Well, for starters, we may want to be sure we aren’t caught in the eighties. Say... less polyester and no fireworks on acid prints.” Leading the way to the second door, she forced the key into the lock and swung the door open. “This is where the magic should never be made.”

Stepping in, she grabbed her toiletries off the counter and began to shove them into her open duffle just inside. Viv wasn’t much for unpacking, but it was usually because she expected to leave rather than move to something more permanent.

Sophia nodded at Viv. “Okay. I’ll keep the car running.” She said with a small smile. Rubbing the back of her neck she didn’t want Viv to feel like she was being trapped by an over protective stranger. “If you need me call or text and I’ll be there.” She said.

Could Viv handle getting her bags and the few additional things she had alone? Definitely. But as she started to climb out of the car, she glanced at Sophia. “I’m good, but if it’ll make you feel better to come that’s fine. So you’re free to join me on the very boring tour of rooms that need to be redecorated, if you want.”

Black eyes met hers as he listened, turning the paper on its back before she had finished. “Enlighten me, then,” he began, “because I don’t recall paying, feeding, or screwing you.”

“I’m pretty sure I’d remember that,” She shot back, smile fighting her lips. “No, you have what I’m pretty sure my teachers called an anachronism there. Something that doesn’t fit the times. And an exception to the usual rules.” Viv explained, gesturing to the paper.

Sophia looked over at the offer for Viv to drive. Thinking about it for a second she gave the other woman a soft smile. “I am fine. I promise.” She said. “Driving a car won’t hurt me, no more than walking or riding in the passenger seat.” She said reassuringly.

“It’s been close to four years since I was attacked and that guy is behind bars in the Atlanta jail.” Sophia said. “Your stuff will be a quick stop on the way to get our beds and sheets.” She added. “Plus I’ve already backed us out of the parking spot.” She added before putting the car in drive.

“Though I agree, we need a couch and tv. Those should be today things as well cause staring at a wall will be boring as hell.” She joked before driving. It was a relatively pleasant drive. The added bonus of a small town meant that it was easy to get to point a to point b with great ease.

Pulling up to the hotel she looked over at Viv. “You sure you don’t need me to come with you to get your stuff?” She asked as she parked the car.

Viv wasn’t sure what to say because while it was great that Sophia had gotten that result, she also knew it wasn’t quite so easy to put things into a place where it was the past. That was why she didn’t have people over or open up or even just get involved. This conversation was more involved than she’d gotten since she left home. And probably why she shouldn’t have spent a week with someone and then let rum convince her it wasn’t a terrible idea to get married.

“I can do without the couch and the tv, but it’ll definitely get old sitting on the floor in an empty room watching netflix.” Leaning her head back into the seat, Viv tried to remember the last time she had a place instead of a room. Sadly, she couldn’t. “Usually when I move in, it’s not really my space in any sense. It’s just a bed. So yeah, some kind of couch and a tv might be a good idea.”

Viv gazed up at the hotel, hand already on the door to climb out, before looking at Sophia.”I don’t need you to come with me, but if it makes you feel better then come with me. It’ll be quick. I didn’t exactly unpack.”

“Don’t send me home in a cab because you’ll be stuck with Stinky Pete over there. I’d let you kiss me but it’s against the Leprechaun code to kiss strangers before St. Patty’s Day. Can you hold out till then? As for going above and beyond that’s just the Marley way. My friend’s nicknamed Buzz Lightyear so to infinity and beyond I go 24/7. I was never in a frat so I don’t have shit stories that involve refrigerator roulette or glory days to dwell on. That’s shit talk for wankers.”

Viv tried to hold back her laugh but failed, “Is that what we’re calling him now? Because it seems to fit. Dude didn’t get the message about Axe.” Raising her hands in defeat, she smiled. “So now you’re a leprechaun into aliens. I can work with that. No need to use what he’s aiming for against him.” Nodding at him, Viv surveyed the bar because she was up to cover whatever he wanted, on the jokes alone. “So you’ve got jokes. But do you need a drink? Because I’d give you one just for the laugh. And I didn’t do the college thing, but I can spot the type. Entitled prick radar isn’t a college degree.”
