Surprised that of all the false accusations levelled at Wei wuxian by the fandom (that's he's oblivious,lazy, doesn't think about the consequences of his actions,an alcoholic)no one ever accuses him of being a Mary sue.
He so an unparalleled genius. He's quite literally good-scratch that,great at everything except cooking. Great at academics. Great artist,great musician,great fighter,great at talismans,great teacher.academically brilliant.He can play a melody perfectly after hearing it once. He's hot as fuck.He gets his golden core removed and is thrown off a cliff into hell on earth and not only does he survive proceeds to invent an entire form of cultivation in three months that people cannot replicate over a decade later. The entire cultivation is still obsessed with him thirteen years after his death. Jiang cheng becomes a serial killer hunting down people and killing them because they might be Wei wuxian. Nie huaisang bases his entire revenge plot around him. Lan wangji wallks around in mourning white for thirteen years. His inventions are in mass production even though they hate him because they're great(cultivation world hypocrisy strikes again). He's the most righteous of them all. He remains true to his morals to the bitter end even though doing the right thing is hard and it would be easier to turn a blind eye. He's described by the author as morally ideal. He is hated by many,but he's also loved. And loved in a way that is much harder to inspire than the blind hatred born out of carefully created rumours and the mob mentality. Jiang yanli took a killing blow meant for him after being told he was responsible for her husband's death. Lan wangji. Wen qing was so devoted to him she gave herself and her beloved brother up on the off chance that Wei wuxian wouldn't have to suffer consequences for Jin zixuan's death. Mianmian stood up for him when no one else would,turned her back on a position she's worked hard to earn,and over a decade later despite having no way to verify that Wei wuxian wasn't at fault for the shit he's blamed for,still earnestly believes he's a good person(and she's right! Great judge of character. Lan xichen should be taking notes). The wen remnants rise to protect him. Wen ning commits treason to help him after one meeting. The juniors love him. Shizui loved him as xian-ge,as senior mo,and as senior Wei. Jingyi offered to act as bait as well so wwx wouldn't be on his own. JIN LING. All the odds are stacked against these two having any sort of decent relationship. Jin ling grows up learning to hate him. Is(wrongfully)told that wwx killed his mother. He first meets wwx while in the body of a dude who(allegedly) sexually harassed his half brother,and made an admittedly thoughtless comment towards Jin ling. He then finds out that Mo xuanyu is actually the dude that(allegedly)killed his parents,and stabs him. By all means that should be the end of it,and yet....Jin ling is very reluctantly charmed from the beginning,he defends "Mo xuanyu" against his fellow sect members,tell him to lock lan wangji down(matchmaker Jin ling for the win!),wants to talk to wwx after the second siege at the burial mounds (which is how he ends up at the temple),in the extras he's going on night hunts with him and lan wangji. I think it speaks volumes to how wonderful Wei wuxian is that Jin ling, perhaps the one person that can rightfully hold a grudge against Wei wuxian,wants him in his life after everything,and it speaks of course to Jin Ling's character,his capacity for love,his capacity for forgiveness (Jiang yanli would be so proud). He dies and is brought back and remains the sexiest, smartest,strongest,most compassionate cultivator of his entire generation. Your fave wishes they could compare. The only one that remotely measures up is lan wangji. Thousands of cultivators gather to kill him and not only do THEY die by the hundreds,they fail so miserably they're still whining about it more than a decade later (embarassing really) . He gets married to a man who worships the ground he walks on and is filthy rich to boast. character of all time.
