Thoughts on Banana fish ending

I’m so sad about reading those negative comment on “Banana Fish” ending. The reasons people are giving is pretty saddening. 

The Author did not glorify suicide of abuse victim or ended the show that way because he wanted to grab attention. In fact that was not the reason why Ash decided to die anyway.

Ash was never a person to give up. But he had always thought that keeping Eiji away from him would keep Eiji safe. So the moment he started running for Eiji upon receiving the ticket was the very moment that he got stabbed. Meaning there were still men that were after him to kill him. If he kept on living, or went to Eiji, or Eiji came to him, that’d mean he’s putting Eiji’s life in danger. So he took the alternative way, by bleeding till death from a non-fetal wound so he’d never be associated with Eiji again although he was living in his happiest moment of life. In his sense he protected him that way.

As for glorifying suicide, no. The author did not do that, in fact he clearly showed how Eiji and Sing are both suffering . Means the suicide wasn’t the best option. He showed how even people that are abused needs to live because there are people that cared for them. That was the message that he tried to send.

At the end of the day, yes I also would have loved it more if they gave it a little bit happy ending. But the ending is not completely out of context or forcefully tragedy. It did contain some message although I believe it could have portrayed Ash’s emotions better.

But I still hate the ending regardless.... I mean the fact that the beauty bomb ash just walked into the library wearing a white coat, dripping blood from his body and took hours to die means there would be a blood pool on the floor but nobody noticed him. I dunno about 1980 but in 2018, at least the janitor would notice the blood trails left by him. Ash seriously succeeded in committing a suicide that had less than 10% chance of succeeding . Which was absolutely illogical.
