me and my zofran against the world
Homeschooling should be completely illegal imo, but at the VERY least, we need a national standard of testing and check ins with mandatory reporters. The HSLDA will send you bomb threats if you try, though.
You think I'm joking about the bomb threats? I'm not.
Another reason for homeschooling to be banned/regulated out of existence: the annoying homeschooled adults in the notes arguing that, yeah ok, SOME homeschool kids might be horrifically abused, denied a basic education (and therefore making it nigh impossible to seek higher levels of education), isolated, and in the worst circumstances, don't even SURVIVE.... But I think I turned out fine, and as the main character of the universe, I think my individual experience should hold more weight.
Hello, I very badly did not meet my goal last month, in part due to a loss of income from visiting family after a recent death.
I ran out of medication & had to borrow money bc I couldn't stand being without or in withdrawal for more than a few days. I'm in the red now by over $100 for meds & was over $250 short in meeting my goal for last month. With all of that & my next cycle of meds/groceries, I anticipate needing about $460 in financial assistance this month. I'm thankful for the help I have previously received & would very much appreciate if people helped & boosted me now! ❤️

Hi, a gig I was really counting on this month fell through and that's really hurting me financially. Ideal goal: $300, in the immediate, $55 would help me a lot w/ transportation costs. Thank you so much!
$204/300 & only 2 days left, I'm SO close! PLEASE, PLEASE keep boosting!
Did a school visit today and asked a group of 8th graders if they could define the term "contemporary art" for me [for context, I work at a contemporary art museum], and one of them said "Is it art that's made with contempt?"
And unfortunately that's the funniest thing a student has ever said to me in 10 years of teaching

Not sure if I've told this story here before, but once upon a time, I didn't really get the point of most protests happening my area because I viewed them as "preaching to your own echo chamber" in a lot of cases. Ex: I saw people do a climate march through a very liberal university campus within a very liberal city, and I was just like "Okay, everyone here agrees with you. This place has crazy aggressive sustainability goals. What is the point of this?"
Then when Roe fell, there were a lot of protests outside the courthouses in cities near me, and though those city courthouses do serve the surrounding rural areas as well, the cities themselves are all rather progressive and left-leaning, so once again I was like "Okay, what is the point of this?" but I went anyway just for the experience. We stood on a street corner with our signs. Most people driving by honked in agreement with us. A few people yelled "abortion is murder" at us out their car windows, and we yelled back "abortion is healthcare!" Cool, okay, still didn't get the point because it's not like we were changing any minds or there in large numbers (we were no threat to any power structures), and the city already largely agreed with us.
But then we got another SUV that pulled up and yelled "abortion is murder!" at us (both husband and wife this time). Looked in the back seat, and they were traveling with their daughter who was maybe 13ish. She locked eyes with me, gave me the most serious look I've ever received, and gave us a thumbs up just above the window ledge so that her family couldn't see.
And that's the day I learned that protests are not always about threatening entrenched power structures but letting people in isolated ideological bubbles know that there are other perspectives and that if they share them, they're not alone.
Timely reminder that protests have many purposes, and one of them is to steel the nerves of the youth.
while being depressing, this is also sort of fascinating to me bc there’s something so…inauthentic here. what i mean is that if you saw something like this back in say 2001 (which you probably wouldn’t, at least for carl’s jr. but i digress) it would seem tacky but in a “sex sells” sort of way.
seeing this in 2025, it’s clearly purely a political statement and you can tell partially bc the image itself is so oddly sexless. it’s like there’s more titillation in the prospect of “owning the libs” than in the image of the scantily clad blonde white woman itself.
There’s this idea on the right that the libs or wokes hate blonde, busty, conventionally attractive white women. I believe it’s a conviction borne of projection: they hate us and all our beliefs and aesthetics, therefore we must do the same. We see this in the idolization of Sydney Sweeney that lasted all of minute until they realized she wasn’t one of them. We see this in the Fox News hostess/Republican Stepford Wife look. Of course it’s nonsense, I love busty blondes as much as the next lesbian, but there’s this conviction that waving a conventionally attractive blonde woman in our faces is owning us.
Of course it is a signifier. Desire is a product of culture. A blonde, youthful, white but tanned, light-eyed, skinny woman: you don’t need to be a sociologist to see the cultural forces, most obviously white supremacy, which would generate and reinforce that as the epitome of sexual attractiveness.
But with the original, as the OP notes, it was sincere and unexamined. It was calculated, yes, but calculated to sell burgers. Here is the all-American Beauty—Marilyn Monroe, Farrah Fawcett, Pamela Anderson—and a burger. You want the girl, because every piece of media you’ve seen since birth days that is what beauty is and that you should desire her, she’s eating a burger, and enjoying it, almost as much as she’d enjoy you, so now you want the burger! Maybe they briefly considered that it’d piss off feminists or conservatives but hey, that’d be free publicity, advertising for the advertising! Now it’s purely a product not to sell a product but to signify a place in the culture war. “Trump won, chud culture is ascendant, therefore we’re going back to our pre-woke ways! Not out of conviction or desire, but to signal out allegiance to the president and his base we’re on their team!”
The original was selling the American Dream: a hot, juicy burger, an ice cold Coke, getting lucky with the girl next door in a new American made car. This is selling a simulacra, the phantom of the American Dream not for its own sake, not to enjoy, but to show contempt for those you hate.
There is no way of accidentally doing a nazi salute twice in a row while the entire world is watching. This man needs to be killed
And I mean he does need to be killed. I remember a time when the obvious and most socially acceptable answer to what you would do if you could travel back in time was to kill Hitler before he rose to power. That is just what everyone said. Saying that nazis and fascism are bad was not seen as a controversial opinion it was simply a fact. This was not a long time ago and I am sure the vast majority of people reading this remember this as well. Elon Musk needs to be killed. Obviously.
She’s right and she should say it.
Something I find very interesting about this CEO assassination is that the guy who did it has basically become an American hero.
They're probably quite worried about what will happen when they catch this guy, especially with the level of public support he has. If they catch him alive and he gets to air his grievances, he could unite the entire country against the private healthcare system. It could go to trial and result in jury nullification, which would basically send a message to the American public that catching a rich body comes without consquences.
If they kill him to keep his mouth shut, I'd say people will burn cities to the ground, and it could potentially provoke even more anger against private health insurance. In a powder keg, it only takes one person lighting the match.
I know it sounds over the top, but a figurehead is a powerful thing, and that's what this shooter is. The rich understand it. That's why Blue Cross just magically decided they were going to pay for anesthesia again. Those dead-eyed psychopaths were going to take everything they could until someone shot that guy and that's the gospel truth.
Keep the hate fire burning. Watching their fear is the closest I've come to knowing joy since the Bush administration.
I am developing a gay hookup app with roguelike and deckbuilding elements
I’ll start off a thought like “I wonder if zionists realize-“ then catch myself bc for a split second I forgot they don’t give a shit about anything and nothing is beneath them
anyone else remember being 13 on tumblr and every morning youd scroll down until you got to posts from the night before like it was the morning paper
