There's NO ethically way to eat a cute inocent dog! YOU DON'T HAVE A HEART!

I know that animal rights is an important and sensitive issue for many people, so while I appreciate your concern for animal safety I would like you to understand that I do very much care about ethical food options. I was a guest in another country, and the food I was asked to prepare was from a variety of animal sources. I would not have felt comfortable eating an animal that I knew wasn't raised to have the best life it could have had, and I'd like to make it clear that as I said in the notes of that poll, dogs were not raised or kept as pets in that country. They were seen the same way Americans might see squirrels or deer, and were usually considered pest animals. Raising them for meat gave them a much safer and longer life than letting them get sick or run as strays on the street where they often die very young or are hit by cars.

I am an anthropologist- and as an anthropologist I know that different cultures get their food from sources that socially my culture may have been taught to see as taboo. This is true of my culture as well- Americans eat things many other countries think are gross or bad or strange or just plain wrong. Dogs are cute- but we see them as cute because we come from cultures that raise dogs as pets. I know farmers who raise chickens as pets, and eat chicken. A dog is an animal, just like a cow or a frog or a person, and before we developed the technology we have now things ate us for food too. Human beings are animals too, and a part of the food web- and when I was living 4 hours out in the middle of the desert where there were no roads for miles, I ate what food there was to eat.

I am not saying that YOU have to eat things that you feel are unethical to eat. If you feel it is wrong to eat certain kinds of animals, that's your prerogative and you are free to abstain from whatever you'd like. But please do not come into my messages and call me heartless for engaging with cultural food in a place where I was a guest.

And what if rap WAS only about sex, violence, and drugs... what then? Would you be justified in looking down upon it as not being "real" art? What would your justification be? Sex is immoral and taboo? Drugs should never be mentioned outside of D.A.R.E programs? Songs about violence turn children to it? Would you turn that standard to other genres as well? I know you wouldn't, I know you haven't, because it's never really been about the topics explored.

Okay I JUST realized I never posted these on here—- BUT BASICALLY, about a year and a half ago I started doing these experimental black hairstyle posts that were threads long on Twitter, to give artists a source of inspo for their black ocs whose hair they wanted to try something new with! There’s more to black hair than just the selected styles portrayed in media, and I thought it would be fun to show people how much texture, shape, fades, length, and style can be combined when drawing black hair—-cause it’s a kind of manipulation our hair can do irl! Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!

For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!

Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!
