I made this drawing thinking about Steve coming back from a bad day, a failed mission. He's so sad about it that he forgot his own birthday, so his awesome team and boyfriend (Bucky, obviously) greet him with a surprise party, and he has mixed feelings.

that "I'm starting to forget your face" trend but instead it's steve rogers drawing bucky over and over and over again untill he's not sure what features are artist editions or memories. every line is agonized over, rembered, lovingly stroked and then frustratingly stared at for hours. some pages have been crumpled; either out of anger, because why can't he capture the memory of bucky on the page? or in shaky desperation, from holding the page too tightly becuase that's him. his bucky. Some of the pages have tear-stains, slight warping from the paper, graphite smudged just a little more than normal, smokey. rembering bucky is actualy like looking through a billowing cloud of smoke, actually. he just can't quite see him.
