if anyone were to ask augustine why she continuously filled out these blind date forms every year without fail she would lie, claim it was a joke. it would be easy to sink into the irony and disdain that poisoned most of her thoughts and opinions. the truth was more embarrassing. it was a yearning to connect, to reach out and be reached for. “who the fuck watches romcoms anymore?” she’d just picked up the form, reading the answers as she waited for her coffee to be made. turning towards the person nearest to her, she continued, “have you seen a romcom in the past decade?”

“not me,” they reply, glumly, though that particular emotion probably wasn’t tied up too much in matchmaker forms and a lack of rom com knowledge ; the string attached to their teabag had snapped as they tried to bob it up and down, and keira was currently attempting to fish the bag out with a singular wooden stirrer and a whole lot of luck. it takes a moment for them to realise that they answered prematurely, brown eyes flitting up to meet augustine’s gaze and say, as if she hadn’t heard them already, “oh. no. unless...- do you think twilight counts?”

it’s not the walking into them that causes issue, really. it could happen to anyone, especially on a busy december day ; everyone is rushing one way or the other and keira is no different, paper shopping bags clutched in both hands as she makes her way down the alley, desperate to get to a leaky cauldron booth before the weakening handles actually break. she has to juggle them to open the door to begin with, but it takes so long that she leaves herself susceptible to something just like that happening - which, of course, it does. door gets pushed from the other side before she can get a proper grip on it and slams into her, earning a surprised oomph and causing one of the more overfilled bags to spill across the step and cobbles. go figure. keira crouches to gather her stuff before it can be trodded on and looks up to make her apologies - realising who’s day she has interfered with as the real issue ( if strategically placed white berries are considered such ) becomes apparent, gloomy as she announces, “this would be my luck beneath mistletoe, wouldn’t it ?”

"i don’t really have the room for a christmas tree,” she insists, though it’s a little bit of a fib. there’s no good reason for that ; telling the truth of her destructive cat and the real life tree he had knocked into a roommates priceless crystal collection last year would probably earn a laugh more than it would judgement, but keira can’t help but think it ten times MORE mortifying than her little white lie. her commitment to the bit is definitely commendable, but somehow, she’s more uncomfortable in this twist of the truth than she is with far, far worse ones. “but i’d like some kind of ... shrub. a small one. that i can put some tinsel and baubles on, you know ? do you have anything that’d look halfway decent, like that ?”

daisy held a foam to go cup in her hands, leeching away as much heat from the thin to-go cup. “i don’t think hot chocolate is supposed to taste like this.” technically speaking, it was a peppermint hot chocolate with a shot of espresso. not that it tasted like that. it was watery and had just a hint of chocolate with an overwhelming peppermint flavor. it was enough to make her mouth burn just a bit. “i really wouldn’t recommend it. twelve dollars isn’t worth it.”

it’s too late for the twelve galleons she had spent just moments after the other, but only at daisy’s words does keira brave a gulp from her own styrofoam cup : and the sense of regret is instantaneous when she realises that it has not, in fact, cooled down enough to be drinkable. the taste is the least of her problems and she gulps it down quick - scorching her throat in the process but freeing herself to open her mouth to the wintery cool without a single thought spared to how she looked to bystanders. “hot,” she says, dumbly, letting her now red raw mouth cool down for a second longer before she barely manages, “’didn’t taste anything else. just hot.”

“maybe. maybe not.” knox mumbled quietly staring at her smoking plant. “could be shedding…” it definitely was not shedding.

“i dont’ think i’ve ever seen a plant do that, before...” actually, she was more than confident she HADN’T, but that could’ve been her own fault - after all ( and much to professor sprout’s chagrin ), she’d never spent as much time as she probably should have studying magical botany. “should we throw water over it?” it’s just a THOUGHT, a logical next step under threat of fire, but keira hopes she’s not exposing herself as woefully uneducated.

henri stood there for a moment, visibly buffering while they took in what keira had just said. they closed the flash portfolio that they had been showing her. “so do you want a tattoo or not?” no matter how much they wanted the money that tattooing someone promised, they wanted them to at least be confident that they wanted a tattoo. regret was bad for business. “because we can always do this later? we do flash events every few months.”

“no, no-” hand stretches out in a flash, coming to rest between the pages of the folder when they succeeded in closing it over ; keira only needs to lift it, again, to open it back up to the sketches inside, “that wasn’t me changing my mind. really.” it had gotten close, sure, but keira’s doubt didn’t come from anywhere that she couldn’t ignore - she had no fear of the needle, and she didn’t want to sit with her indecision any longer than necessary. “i’m just not sure what i should get. i’m impulsive, but not remorseful.”

lavinia wasn’t exactly sure how old keira was, assumed she was somewhere between sixteen and twenty six but hadn’t had any luck narrowing that range down at all. “you have anything to eat today kid?” there was no time for keira to answer the question before lavinia kept talking. “like anything with leafy greens? i read somewhere that’s high in calcium. kids need that, don’t they? good for bones and shit.” 

and so, maybe she’s a little buzzed. she’s not exactly working under the idea that it was five o’clock somewhere, but as long as she’s here she is going to fully indulge in the music festival of it all, and if that means cracking open her preferred hard seltzers before midday, so be it. she’s not bringing shame on anybody, and all it really does is make her all the more delighted ( if it were possible ) to see this familiar face. “i had a croissant,” she offers, though she can hear how that sounds and grimaces, “no leafy greens available, i’m afraid. but if it makes you feel any better, i think i’ve got all my adult bones by now.”

              𝖇𝖑𝖆𝖎𝖘𝖊   𝖟𝖆𝖇𝖎𝖓𝖎   ,   𝖘𝖔𝖔𝖓   -   𝖙𝖔   -   𝖇𝖊   𝖋𝖆𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗  and   well   aware   that   everyone   now   knows   this   fact   ,   moves   through   the   festival   grounds   with   ease   .   he   remains   unruffled   and   his   face   remains   remarkably   unshiny   despite   the   fact   that   everyone   else   in   the   surrounding   crowd   is   sweating   at   least   a   little   bit   .   some   might   call   it   magic   (   it   is   )   .   some   might   even   call   it   annoying   of   him   (   also   correct   )   .   but   years   and   years   of   being   a   somewhat   public   figure   has   taught   him   that   vanity   will   help   more   than   hurt   and   that   keeping   a   cool   head   in   the   court   of   public   opinion   is   the   best   and   most   amusing   way   to   face   the   backlash   .   he   is   not   of   the   opinion   that   he   has   ANYTHING   to   apologize   for   and   his   mother   did   not   stop   being   oliviette   zabini   when   she   took   on   the   role   of   mother  ,   so   he   fails   to   see   why   he   should   not   follow   in   her   footsteps   .   he   pastes   on   his   public   smile   ,   all   pearly   whites   on   show   in   a   grin   that   reaches   his   eyes   but   is   never   as   genuine   as   it   seems   ,   and   stops   the   next   person   he   sees   .   ❝   hey   there   ,   ❞   he   says   ,   smooth   baritone   at   odds   with   the   cacophony   of   instruments   coming   from   the   stage   .      the   look   he   gives   them   is   apologetic   for   interrupting   their   afternoon   .   ❝   you   wouldn’t   happen   to   have   seen   pansy   parkinson   around   ,   have   you   ?   i   seem   to   have   lost   track   of   her   .   ❞

a  mere  twenty  four  hours  before,  keira  had  only  really  known  the  few  fun  facts  that  were  easily  gathered  when  one  was  a  year  below  blaise  zabini  &  his  usual  suspects  ;  names,  the  personality  types  they  assumed,  jokes  made  and  rivalries  explored.  they  didn’t  share  classes  &  she  wasn’t  a  slytherin,  so  her  opinion  had  been  built  from  the  whispers  overheard  in  hogwarts  corridors  and  the  more  public  interactions  she  had  seen  from  the  sidelines  -  she  was  good  at  observing,  so  she  probably  did  know  just  a  LITTLE  bit  more  than  the  average  stranger,  but  it  had  never  been  substantial  until  now.  there  was  nothing  more  insidious  than  good  gossip,  and  oriana  trelawney  (  that  most  devious  bastard  in  new  york  city  )  had  seen  to  it  with  one  simple  article  that  all  eyes  would  be  on  this  particular  entourage  this  weekend.  keira  was  as  susceptible  as  the  next  person  to  the  drama  of  it  all,  but  it  had  reminded  her  of  how  QUICKLY  things  ran  when  they  grew  legs,  and  how  easily  other  people  -  herself,  maybe  -  could  end  up  before  the  firing  squad.  if  her  understanding  of  this  man  of  the  hour  is  even  half  true  to  form,  her  pity  isn’t  exactly  needed  ;  but  call  it  her  bleeding  heart  and  a  built  in  sympathy  for  those  who’ve  had  their  secrets  aired  when  she  is  unmoved  by  honeyed  words  and  instead  turns  soft  eyed  sympathy  unto  him.   “  dark  hair,  right  ?  about  here  ?  ”  she  isn’t  fooling  anyone  with  that  ACT  of  not  recognising  him  or  the  friend  she  pretends  to  recall,  but  she  assumes  she’s  doing  him  a  favor.  “  i  think  i  saw  her  leaving  stage  three  a  little  while  ago,  but  i  don’t  know  where  she  went  after  that.  i’m  sorry.  you  guys  are  probably  at  the  same  hotel,  though,  right  ?  she  won’t  let  you  worry  for  long.  ”

"  ...  i  doubt  it.  ”  she  takes  just  the  one  look  at  them  before  she  decrees  that  absolutely  impossible,  not  because  she  thinks  herself  that  singular,  in  this  world,  but  because  she  cannot  imagine  someone  so  effortlessly  styled  sharing  any  trait  with  her  at  all.  it’s  self  deprecating  in  origin,  and  keira  is  made  further  uncomfortable  by  her  own  dragging  of  this  into  the  light.  “  you  don’t  have  to  lie  to  make  me  feel  better,  ”  she  speaks  from  her  high  horse,  as  if  a  lie  was  the  worst  thing  in  the  world  &  had  never  ONCE  crossed  her  own  lips,  “  it  won’t  bother  me.  ”

“what?” they’re not even trying to be rude, when it happens ; head snaps up and question tumbles out of their mouth before they’re even aware they’re putting voice to that little rush of vicious annoyance. it’s not their proudest moment, obvious enough in the way that their initially narrowed eyes widen as they become aware of their own fury and the grip on their book that had so immediately tightened loosens up, again. they can’t believe he’s still there, whittling away whatever minutes of boredom he has. or they can, but they can’t believe he’s still attempting to do that through conversation with them. it’s not the first interruption, but it’s the first time that keira takes a deep breath and attempts to level themself before they say, evenly, “why would i hate you? i don’t even know you.”

THREE THINGS THAT MAKE MY MUSE HAPPY  :  when her cat ( sweets ) decides to nestle down in her lap after ten minutes of debating it / wandering the chaotic aisles of little known / hole in the wall thrift stores / the once in a blue moon occasions where she finds an old piano out in the wild ( tucked into the corner of an old stately home she’s visiting or buried underneath piles of books in a grimy little café ) and she gets the chance to play a short tune. 

THREE THINGS THAT MAKE MY MUSE SAD  :  losing track of time after making a cup of tea late in the evening & only remembering when it’s gone ice cold / rainy days in the middle of winter when she never seems to remember the need for an umbrella and can never manage to get her hands warm / the moment after waking up in the morning, before she properly stirs and starts getting ready for the day ahead where she remembers the brand on her left arm.

THREE OF MY MUSE’S FAVORITE SONGS  :  i’m still here by kate winton ( from nineteen to twenty three, i was a worst version of me / then i got to twenty four and realised that i deserve more ), dreams by the cranberries ( i know i felt like this before / but now i’m feeling it even more / because it came from you ) & ironic by alanis morissette ( it’s like rain on your wedding day / it’s like a free ride when you’ve already paid / it’s the good advice that you just didn’t take / and who would’ve thought... it figures )

A WISH MY MUSE HAS?  :  lana vc for the war to end <3 but for keira it’s less so because there’s already been so much of it ( like ... that’s a FACTOR ... ) and more so because she doesn’t want to have to think any deeper on it or, god forbid, actually stake a side. again. 

THE MOST DARING THING YOUR MUSE HAS EVER DONE?  :  i think keira would consider her career choice the answer, here. it took a huge amount of guts for her to come out of her comfort zone and go into cursebreaking, which has already taken her out of england for work / study purposes - and that, in itself, isn’t something that she ever imagined ! she definitely envisioned a desk job of some description when she was much younger, but that wouldn’t have been because she wanted a desk job. she just never realised she’d have what it took to take a lil leap !

IS MY MUSE CREATIVE?  :  yes, though she’s struggled to create anything to be proud of since her hogwarts years. when she was just a lil girl, keira lived in her books and only came out to practice piano and put pen to paper in one of numerous sketchbooks that she filled. her grandmother supported the expanding of her mind in the former and thought all little girls should be trained musically, but when it came to the abstract art that keira most often indulged in, saw nothing of note or worth encouraging further. she only really blossomed there at hogwarts and on joining the schools art club, sticking to what she knew and felt comfortable with and honing her skill. she likes the strong, dark lines of ballpoint pens and she still finds herself absently doodling on the corners of important paperwork and restaurant napkins, but she hasn’t felt the spark that drove her through her teens - and earned her much praise from her fellow, vastly more talented club artists - for a long time, now.

♉: is my muse prone to jealousy?

IS MY MUSE PRONE TO JEALOUSY?  :  yes, but she isn’t happy about it ! when keira was younger, she constantly played second fiddle to her sibling. she felt as if her grandmother loved her, but she didn’t think that she liked her very much, and tbh, she didn’t. she was always jealous of how easily norma quirrell’s pride was bestowed on them, and constantly sought much the same to a much lower success rate. they weren’t close before because they couldn’t be close with that unspoken competition coming between them, but where that dynamic is mostly changed, keira’s never been able to shake that thread of envy that runs through her, only now it rears up in regards to everyone and everything else. she’s gotta be a nightmare coworker, because she wants to be THE most well liked, and she’ll settle for nothing but.

THREE PEOPLE THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO MY MUSE  :  every single one of these guys currently unplayed and / or dead, but consider that a reason to snatch the two possible to play up ! top of the list is her twin sibling, wherever they may be. they weren’t always close and keira didn’t always care for them, but circumstances changed mid teens and they’ve become very, very good friends who rely on each other ... quite a bit. her uncle quirinus quirrell, rip :(( while keira’s relationship with her maternal grandmother was never the best ( plenty of reasons for that, but i think it’s best summed up by a few crucial differences in character ), she always gravitated towards her uncle, who encouraged her interests & shared in them with her. and her best friend ! possibly the only friendship from hogwarts that keira has managed to maintain, which also makes it a dynamic that spans a lot farther back than any sort of positive one with her sibling !
