Okay! Without further ado, here's my IDW Transformers (main continuity) reading order that I said I was putting together, complete with a lot of commentary to try and help new readers understand what's what and where to start.

The fact that “dolls having a tea party” has stuck around in the public consciousness is fascinating to me.

Like, back in the Old Days that would be a way that women would actually socialize. So if a girl had a doll tea party, she was imitating her mom / other contemporary women.

But these days contemporary women don’t have tea parties. So now, the idea of “dolls having a tea party” is an echo of an extinct behavior, only repeated and referenced because it used to be so prevalent.

So a Barbie in a big hat themed for a tea party is a bit like if they made Transformers that turned into stagecoaches and horse-drawn buggies.

Sorry, OP, I can’t stick to the tags any longer. Love the silly joke you made, I get your point, but unfortunately for you, you knocked on a door that I know how to answer because. Don’t need to imagine transformers as stage coaches and buggies, because they’ve already done something similar to that.

Not like, historically, maybe, I don’t know that much about transforming toys, but I do know a lot about transformers. You’ve unintentionally made reference to Hearts of Steel, an early 00’s alternative universe mini comic run.

Instead of stagecoaches, the Autobots were train cars, locomotives. They’d hitch together and ride the rails (and sing songs!)

Decepticons, they had some variety, we’ve got Shockwave as a ironclad ship:

this guy turns into a blimp, and then blows up two pages later:

and the seekers (That’s Starscream!) turn into biplanes, which is. Kinda funny if you think too hard on it.

Megatron and Optimus Prime were absent in this story, but we can see some artist sketches of what they might’ve looked like during this era:

Oh yeah, Mark Twain and John Henry show up.

You can find these toys in real life, but I imagine they’re on the harder side to find nowadays.
