“Alrighty, then I’ll tell you…! And I’ll make it extra special too, so you can remember better.” He got comfortable, letting Jurou get nice and however close he wanted. It took Kyou a moment to think of a good story, though; He wanted to tell Jurou something happy, not like some of the sad love stories he had heard. Thankfully, though, it didn’t take the blonde long to think.
“So, long ago, the Sun and the Moon actually lived together,” Kyou started, reaching over Jurou’s head. He held his hands out, creating his own light to tell the story; There was a gold ball for the sun, and a silver one for the moon. “They would often come out at the same time, and would go to sleep together.”
A little ways away from the ‘sun’ and ‘moon’ Kyou created a few much smaller and dimmer lights. Stars. “The Stars alone would light the night sky; But even together, their light wasn’t much. And so the days were extra bright, but the nights were always extra dark. Many nasty monsters would take advantage of that, and would come out in the darkness to hunt anyone who would be out at night.”
“The Stars saw this as they watched over the night, sad that their light wasn’t enough to keep the monsters away. And so they went to the Sun and the Moon to ask for their help.” The ‘stars’ he had made moved closer to the sun and moon, the little lights flashing to represent them ‘talking’. “‘Oh please, bright Sun and gentle Moon. Our light is so dim, and we can’t help the people stay safe. Lend us some of your light, so that we may protect them.’.”
“The Sun and Moon looked at each other, thinking of how they could help the Stars. ‘My light is too bright,’ the Sun said. ‘It will keep the people awake, and then no one would be able to sleep.’ ‘Mine isn’t,’ the Moon said. ‘But if I give any away, then there won’t be enough for day or night.’ The Sun and Moon thought and thought, for a good long time trying to think of how they could solve this problem.”
“Suddenly, the Moon had an idea. ‘What if I went with the Stars, and lit the sky at night? My light isn’t as bright as yours; The people will still be able to sleep, but the monsters will not come out.’ The Sun and Stars both thought that this was a good idea, though the Sun was sad to see the Moon leave. ‘Don’t worry, Sun,’ the Moon said as they left. ‘We can still see each other as we wake up and go to sleep. I will still tuck you in, as I have before.’ ‘And I will do the same,’ the Sun promised. Because even if they were awake at different times, they still cared deeply for each other.”
The stars Kyou made faded out, as did the sun. The silver moon that he made remained, which he brought to cradle in front of Jurou. “And so that’s why the Sun and Moon are up at different times. To make sure the monsters can’t hurt us, no matter what time it is.”
Jurou watched the small light show with such amazement and wonder. His eyes were so focused on the small lights and the story that it was if it were actually really and happening in real time to him. The lights made it all the better for him. He was quiet and didn’t squirm or move. He thought the Moon was so brave for fighting off all of those bad monsters and letting people go out safely at night like they were now.
He looked at it with such wide bright eyes and in a whole new understanding. How amazing was the Moon! He smiled brightly and looked up to the real thing. He then stood and bowed deeply before straightening and calling out to it.
“Thank you Moon!! You are bwave and weally cool!” He couldn’t wait to tell Mama about this story. He only hoped he could tell it as well as Kyou-kun had. He quickly made his way back to Kyou and bowed low to him as well.
“T-Tank you Kyou-kun! I weally li-liked that stowy!”
