He studied her movements. Humans were delicate and frail creatures; and had a subtle way of expressing their desires, much unlike his kind. If an oni was hungry, they would hunt, kill and eat on their own accord. There was never a need for them to band together, to tend to each other; and he knew their Master had made it so, to ensure his absolute reign. As each of them was a self-sufficient creature, demons tended to live separate from one another; and some could be quite territorial, as well.
But with humans, it was very different. Being the weakest creature in this world with an awareness of its own life span, humans sought to form groups and work together towards establishing a goal. And so they had developed intricate ways of communicating their needs to one another. And so he would pay attention, closely, and read through the fine print to establish what it was that each of them wanted. All of his followers had different ways of expressing it; some would downright declare, others insinuate... and there was a third, rarer type that would simply treat others in a way they wished to be treated.
She was a feisty one he had to admit that. He had feisty here before, a long time ago. As his eyes roll a little to the side, recalling … a certain lady … who was here years ago, like her. Beaten, broken, cast away. She had lost everything in the world and fled with … a small bundle of joy in her arms, and she came running right to him. How he wanted to help her, he really wanted to … save her from this horrid land. The abuse, the insults, the daily ritual of depression and feeling worthless, he lifted it from her shoulders and she in turn, betrayed him, and forced him to kill her, how can humans, be so evil and cruel. She seemed to be … the same.
“What do I want?” He muttered as he looked at her, with his head snapping right in front of her and he leaned forward. “I want to help, a lil lady, become better.” He said as he stood up to tower over her. “Noble? Am I right? If not, then you are no peasant daughter. Wealthy, better off than most, you had it all one day and then the next …” He opened his palm, and placed his fingers on it as if he was walking across it. “Demons ate mummy and daddy, right in front of you?” As he giggles and closes his hand tightly. “And since then, you have so much hatred within you, despite knowing the demons that ate your family, are dead, you still ruin your life, in such a pointless quest?”
Gently, and with care. He leaned down and placed his cold hand on the side of his face, touching her hair before he pulls back, leaving a light sprinkle of dusted frost on her cheek as he waves his hand back and forth.
“Your very beautiful.” A compliment given and he would start to mimic her mannerisms, copying her movements to perfection, just to tease her. She was a demon slayer, she was meant to be dangerous to him, a killer of demons, something his Master would turn away from and have a panic attack, but here he was, playing with her, like she was a kitten, without a care in the world.
“I want to prove, which of us is evil. I offer, shelter, food, water and warmth to these people, and what do you offer? Threats, insults and false hope. You offer hollow words, you truly are a demon, but worry not, this is a place of healing, and I know I can make you better in no time!”
