It’s time for the general 2016 election! San Francisco has 24 propositions on the ballot, the state has 17, and district 9 has 4 candidates for supervisor.

Out of 19 pieces of election junk mail so far, 9 are specifically about prop V. Six against (also paid for by the American Beverage Association) and three for.

Affordable Housing Alliance

The Affordable Housing Alliance is the interesting one to list here - there are ton of different housing/tenant activist groups in San Francisco. Is this one legit? Or does it just look good on the list? 

I found a fascinating article about the AHA backing the Willie Brown machine (RIP Bay Guardian). Googling ‘”affordable housing alliance” san francisco’ brought up a couple generic press mentions and the aforementioned article. Oddly none of the articles mentioning the group on SFGate I found through a search on that site showed up on Google, great strategy there SFGate folks. No real internet presence for this group.

If the Affordable Housing Alliance was an actual group or person advocating for affordable housing and tenants, I would expect them to have at least a minimum web presence. Between that and the apparent relationship with the establishment politics, this just looks like it’s on the flyer to look good and lead voters to believe their advocates favor this proposition.

2015′s first junk mail!

Received around the beginning of September. Isn’t it a beauty?

Proposition I is another version of Supe Campos’ 45-day moratorium on new market-rate housing in the Mission that was voted down by the Board of Supervisors over the summer [1]. I’ll look at where the money & interest is behind this later, I’ve already gotten another flyer about it. Spoiler alert: Realtor associations and Ed Lee are in there.
