After an embarrassingly long period of inactivity, I am finally back, and I am beyond delighted to share that I contributed to the beautiful @worldbeyondzine project as one of their fiction writers!
“The World Beyond the Wand” is a fantasy zine that places transmasculine characters at the heart of mesmerising art. I am so honoured to have been a voice for my Indian trans community, at a time where we need it the most.
I got to collaborate with two incredibly talented artists - @keiken01 and @/iafwstatic - on two pieces centred around Tamil trans men, one in the main zine and one in the side zine. This was an incredibly fulfilling experience and I am so glad I get to share it here!
The best part about this project is that you can get TWO zines and whole merch bundles containing everything from games to music digitally, AND every donation goes towards Rainbow Railroad, an organisation that works towards helping queer and trans folks in unsafe situations (eg, warzones).
If you are unable to donate, that is totally fine, but spreading the word is greatly appreciated.

🪄⚔️ hellooooo fantasy lovers! ⚔️🪄
the World Beyond the Wand transmasc fantasy zine is officially open for preorders--and boy, have we got a lot to share this time around!
here's the order form
if you've bought our zines before, this order form is new--read on below the cut for a little more detail...
so what's up with that order form?
since we're offering a digital-only zine this time, we need no funds to produce zines.
so we're cutting out the middleman--buyers now donate directly to Rainbow Railroad and show us proof of donation.
Your donation provides immediate support to LGBTQI+ individuals facing persecution. Make a donation today.
at the end of the sales period, we'll go through the form and send over everyone's files--and the money will have already made it to Rainbow Railroad, without any extra fees or taxes that would normally be associated with one of us receiving the money and then donating it.
so they get more money!

Their extract reads: "Death is not something to be feared; it is a natural justice, brought forth by Yamadevan. The Grim Reaper is a foreign and forced character to Paari, a caricature of loss, with his scythe and his cloak — death, to those from the ocean nourished by ashes, comes along in the form of a broad-chested man atop a buffalo. It is slow, ambling, powerful, and steady. It does not bargain or gamble, and it does not knock on your door and wait for you to open it."
Now to show off the first of our talented writers, here's @vrs-culdesac
'promises for soldiers', on tranquility. also known as the poem that got me published for the first time! yeah, gotta love this one. efflorescence 2024, you will always be special to me.
‘warmth,’ on love and all its forms, all the places into which it bleeds, all the people through whom it shines. How lucky am I to have something to write about?
Meet the seventh character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Chinmayi Selvaraj!
Age: 21
Pronouns: She/her/hers
Height: 145 cm (or) 4’9”
Weight: 49 kg (or) 108 lbs
Current concern: She’s started to like her coding hobby more than her actual degree.
Her favourite food is anything sweet. She is a weightlifter and a dancer.
Check out Chinmayi’s character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Chinmayi’s MBTI might be ENTJ. Or ESTJ. If I’m being honest, I have no clue. But one thing’s for sure - anyone who’s met her loves her.
Meet the sixth character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Niraivu Manivannan!
Age: 22
Pronouns: He/him/his
Height: 185 cm (or) 6’0”
Weight: 71 kg (or) 156 lbs
Current concern: Recently burnt off a bit of his hair in a poorly-planned Chemistry experiment. He’s now nicknamed ‘Theepotti*’ at college.
*Matchbox in Tamil
His favourite food is vathakozhambu. He is an expert fielder and has learnt Carnatic music for ten years.
Check out Niraivu’s character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Niraivu was initially supposed to use they/he pronouns but... Pronoun Soup. I kept the lack of gender-conformity in their character design, however.
Meet the fifth character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Dhruv Iyengar!
Age: 21
Pronouns: He/him/his
Height: 154 cm (or) 5’0”
Weight: 58 kg (or) 127 lbs
Current concern: He can’t shave his facial hair because then he gets mistaken for a middle schooler.
His favourite food is pizza. He spends his free time baking and is a trained bassist.
Check out Dhruv’s character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Dhruv’s design was based on the concept, “looks like they could kill you, but is a cinnamon roll.” Of course, though, he has his secrets.
Meet the fourth character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Tejas Prabhakar!
Age: 22
Pronouns: He/him/his
Height: 182 cm (or) 5’10”
Weight: 66 kg (or) 145 lbs
Current concern: ...Everything.
His favourite food is ice cream. He loves going on runs and falling down strange rabbit holes on the internet.
Check out Tejas’ character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Tejas is perpetually anxious and tends to go a little cuckoo bananas trying to control it. He has never sat through a viva without messing it up.
Meet the third character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Pavithran Suresh!
Age: 22
Pronouns: He/him/his
Height: 176 cm (or) 5’8”
Weight: 80 kg (or) 176 lbs
Current concern: He keeps forgetting whether he’s on a bulk or a cut.
His favourite food is biryani. He knows pottery, and he likes surfing and working out when he can.
Check out Pavithran’s character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Pavi was originally supposed to use he/she, but I figured that the book would quickly become Pronoun Soup, so I left the idea. She’s he/she in spirit, now.
Meet the second character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Vijay Inaiyanan!
Age: 22
Pronouns: He/him/his
Height: 167 cm (or) 5'5”
Weight: 70 kg (or) 154 lbs
Current concern: His bike keeps making a weird noise when he brakes, and he has no idea what it is.
His favourite food is masala dosai. He writes in his free time, and he can cook too many things for his own comfort.
Check out Vijay’s character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Vijay is meant to give an unreadable vibe, because he tends to be a bit unpredictable. However, he’s pragmatic and reliable when he has to be.
Meet the first character of “Lightning,” my original novel - Rudhran Kumar!
Age: 21
Pronouns: He/him/his
Height: 173 cm (or) 5'6"
Weight: 75 kg (or) 165 lbs
Current concern: His favourite sanitiser is out of stock. Also, he hasn’t done his accounts homework in two weeks.
His favourite food is filter coffee. He’s partial to rock music, and he enjoys a good non-fiction book.
Check out Rudhran’s character playlist here:
Tiny note from the author: Rudhran’s design was meant to be as minimalistic as possible, true to his personality. He’s rational, composed and a bit sassy. Despite his to-the-point exterior, he knows when to have fun.
