You breathe slow, deep, steadying yourself. Not many have entered this hive. Friends were not something you had tended to keep since your hatching, always seeking the asylum of your lusus’ breast. He had, perhaps, babied you in your youth, chasing others away as a mother would drive potential threats from a chick. If anything, he had kept you at your safest, and continues to do so, feathers puffing to the smell of another. There’s a warning scream, but you shush him down, and exchange an apology with your guest.

You show him inward, hands stuffed in your pockets as you drone on about the bone-decorated halls, the dried blood that had once oozed from door hinges. None of it is troll blood, of course- you don’t bother with many trolls. You come into the common’s block, entire room fixed with comfort objects. No sofa, but large bag chairs, with a third hanging chair in the corner, for when you needed to sleep in a nest instead of a coon. Large television hangs on wall, chord connecting to your laptop with movie ready and paused. You bounce into your most loved chair, with many a clawmark and stitch along the surface. You tell him that any food he may like is in the kitchen in just the next room: he’s welcome to whatever he can find.
