If your cat likes to be outside then by all means, take them outside! Harness train them to walk them yourself, just like dog owners do.

But there is no excuse to just letting your cat free roam without having any idea where they are, what they’re up to, and who/what’s around them. Every person who comes into my shelter looking for their cat that’s been missing for a week thought they were that one owner where “oh, my cat never hurts anything and never goes far and always knows how to get home and when to come home!”
