Being asexual and racist is embarassing as fuck. Being racist at all is obviously embarassing as fuck but the amount of racism and especially antiblackness i have been seeing from asexuals recently is obscene.

One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.

And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.

Ashabi (_aceingrace_ on instagram) making the uni ace flag really revealed a lot of the underlying anti-Black racism in the ace community. so many people have been attacking her for being a Black woman who made a new flag to explicitly include more people in the community.

also Yasmin Benoit's efforts have meant that asexuality is included in the draft conversion therapy ban in Westminster which is one of The biggest wins for the ace community in the UK.

Its genuinely insane to me how white fandom will bend over backwards to excuse, justify or deny racism and the frustrations of fans of color, like they'll find a handful of poc that don't have an issue with whatever is going on and they'll be validated enough to continue thinking its not a problem, they'll accept apologies not meant for them and get upset when others dont, they'll publicly announce how they forgive white creators like their making a stand against something, and blanket all criticism and fans of color speaking up as hate, bullying, harssment and bad faith. I thought fandom was supposed to be fun and inclusive, i thought we were supposed to be critical of what we consumed? How come fans of color can never truly escape from reality in fandom and media?
