A mischievous jester. A gentle soldier. A secret that could tear their lives apart.

Noble born runaway turned jester Thedrick enjoys his job possibly a little too much, and his habit of both teasing and flirting with the king’s soldiers often lands him in hot water, though the beatings they serve him never seem to dissuade him or dampen his spirits.

Only recently recruited into the royal guard, everyone wants the gentle giant Beowulf to be intimidating, telling him to keep his helmet on to cover his soft face while he stands behind the throne looking menacing, though the soldier would much rather be back home baking pies.

When the two of them meet, the guard is enamoured by the tiny fool, and becomes his protector, a job that turns out to be a lot more difficult than one might assume, especially when Beowulf learns that Thedrick might be harbouring a dark secret.

homestuck was so perfect for autistic teenagers bc it took characters being sorted into categories and having Attributes to its absolute extreme. forget four hogwarts houses, every character has their associated colour their zodiac sign their associated animal their dream planet their god tier class and aspect their typing quirk their pesterchum handle their weapon their planet of x and y, as well as each of them having a handful of other very quantifiable Personality Traits and Interests (e.g. this one is a clown this one is angry this one likes fashion this one is just rufio from hook for some reason) and THEN they all also have their respective ancestors and dancestors(?)(plucked that word from my memory) who have all of those things as WELL

and god not to mention the fucking quadrant system

as a 13-15 year old autistic kid i didnt even need homestuck to have a plot i just happily made a big big spreadsheet of character attributes in my brain

Possibly my spiciest take is that it's actually good to have people you respect and like that have some dogshit takes.

I think part of what is making young people lonelier, in discussing why they're increasingly isolated, is that they're so afraid of meeting someone who doesn't hold their same beliefs, and instead of being just core beliefs it is kinda ancillary shit.

It's actually okay to disagree even on social topics! Even on some political ones! But I mean, online you can start with "i love this mutual but they have a really bad/uninformed opinion about x media"

I know this is IMMEDIATELY going to be taken in bad faith, and yes babygirl, you are so right, I DO want you to go make best friends with both the KKK grand wizard AND your nearest nazi leader.

But seriously, as someone who has spent two decades doing community organization: finding ways to connect with different people is so so so important. There are people i follow here who ate 80% smart and their brain falls out of their head 20% of the time and that is GOOD FOR MY MENTAL ECOSYSTEM AND GOOD FOR LEARNING HOW TO BE A PERSON
