love that fl lures you in with body horror only to stab you in the liver with identity horror. how many of your memories can you lose to the eldritch purple before you're fundamentally a different person? what if you could only escape an oppressive destiny by becoming a fish? are you really human, or are you actually a pile of spiders wearing stolen memories and a very convincing skin-suit? who can say
Being obsessed with your own ocs is so so good for you i seriously can't recommend it enough
The only downside is that you have to do Everything around here
people aren't even getting a little bit genghis khan anymore. you guys used to love getting a little bit genghis khan
if you're not playing fallen london you're missing out
happy "captain it's wednesday" wednesday

i love media that confidently spoils itself right from the start!!! i love when stories hold your hand, perhaps even look you in the eye, and gently say ‘this character is going to die. this relationship is doomed.’ but assure you that this is a tale worth hearing because it’s not about the what it’s about the how. yayyyy hehehe 💙
Or you go The Untamed/MDZS route. Start the story letting you know the guy died, but surprise, he ain't dead
preview pdf for the fallen london ttrpg core book has dropped, and with it we've gotten our first official art of december :D
this isn't exactly how I've imagined them (though this art is VERY good) but also, the beauty is
therefore, as I see it, all depictions of them are equally valid (as long as they have A Pale Doggish Mask)
Warning: Mild gore content

so i figured out what those patch notes were about...
okay, so, before the update, biting mr fires looked like this;
with the shadowy check increasing proportional to your repeat dentistry quality- IE; the more you bit mr fires, the harder this check became, until you literally couldn't succeed at it anymore. this screenshot was taken at the exact point i hit 0%.
but. post update. the option has changed. it now looks like this.
and the new requirement... is this.
and the success text...
this gives an exclusive burden.
i have no idea when this started triggering. i have no idea how this started triggering. i only know that i have done it.
i have officially gone further than anyone has ever gone before.
it’s you and that weasels guy
[Light Fingers Spoilers ahead]
Thinking about how the Light Fingers story does want you to sympathize with the antagonist on some level--in fact, the narrative demands it for the story to have full impact. The game doesn't ask you to think Poor Edward is redeemable or even worthy of forgiveness, but it specifically draws attention to him as a tragic figure. His name is Poor Edward, and it's not meant to be a purely ironic epithet. He is pitiable! From his Orphanage backstory to physically cowering should you threaten his life at the wedding, unable to fight, our primary antagonist incites feelings of pity, even if accompanied by revulsion. "He's a pathetic little man in a mask, playing at being the villain," says Clara, close to the final confrontation. Poor Edward, indeed!
And if that weren't enough, the mask that Poor Edward wears is the theatrical symbol of tragedy: the story has your character face-to-face with this physical representation every time they have to confront their antagonist. This isn't an incidental aesthetic choice, but a thematic one. Between mask and epithet, the story does not allow you to ignore the inherent tragedy of Poor Edward's character: a child whose parents were cruelly mudered and then taken to The Orphanage for years of various abuses--and then, the villain of this tale, engineering his own downfall with pride and moon milk, a future that may not have occurred without the initial violence he came to perpetuate. The call for sympathy, even momentarily, is written into the way the narrative presents Poor Edward. It is vital to the climax:
While the Orphanage took a gentle creature and raised it into a monster, the protagonists (can) take a monster and raise it into a gentle creature. The hybrid is the only character who will choose to save Poor Edward if asked--provided the protagonist has chosen to raise the child with humanity. Light Fingers is about empathy! It's about sympathy! It's about seeing a violent cycle, and choosing either to be complicit in extending it or to step up and break it--to the best of your ability. It isn't necessary to save Poor Edward in the end, of course; it's enough to have the choice. It is only without the narrative means to sympathize with the primary antagonist that these themes collapse.
Some Fallen London inspired color palettes! 22 palettes, 7 colors each. I tried to make them varied, which got harder to do the more I made.
I'd love to see people use them! Feel free to modify or mix the colors as needed. If you do use them I'd love to see the art in #neathly hues !
I'm always so delighted when people talk about having Fallen London OC's because deliberately playing as a character genuinely never even occured to me. that's just me. that's me with a top hat running around fucked up london being nosy and promiscuous. the "character" is going wherever my dick leads me.
hey fallen london question, is it better to stack up one skill rly high like in choiceof or is it important to develop all skills?
develop all of your skills!!! fallen london has what some have called "skyrim syndrome". progressing the game requires leveling all of your skills and doing all of their related storylines. this being said, for full disclosure- you can specialize in one skill at a later point. just don't focus on it above everything else.
excuse U, skyrim has fallen london syndrome
Drunk as hell flying a zeppelin because it doesn't count as operating heavy machinery
I say old chap that airship is flying dreadfully close to the- OH DEAR SPROCKETS!!!!!
Enough of the trope where memory loss undoes the damage or the corruption or whatever. More content where removing memories just removes the context.
The tragedy of needing to grieve and not knowing what or who you lost or why. The angst of having trauma and being denied the awareness that it's trauma. The suspense of being different somehow and left to wonder how and when. The tension of knowing that something is off and you can't find where it hurts. The Adventure Zone gets it. Kingdom Hearts gets it.
There is an aching inside you and you don't know how it got there.
