Defiant whumpee not saying anything but having a stare filled with so much rage it could kill.
Whumper making it a goal to fill those eyes with fear and despair instead.
I love the trope, just as much as anyone, of the Caretaker being shocked by Whumpee's ingrained behaviors. Saying something and realizing just how bad it was by Whumpee's reaction.
But what if Caretaker just gently corrects the behavior?
They don't even verbalize it.
Whumpee kneels in an argument- Caretaker gently pulls on their hands so they stand again.
The moment passes.
Whumpee cowers when they break a plate- Caretaker quietly gets them a new one and cleans up the shards.
Whumpee removes their shirt and their torso is hatched with scars-and Caretaker looks at them all the same.
And it's a relief. Everyone treats Whumpee like a fragile glass thing ever since they came back.
With Caretaker they can at least, sometimes, feel normal.
âAnd then things got a little unpleasant for a few years.â
âDude, you were literally kidnapped and locked in a basement.â
âYeah, and that was unpleasant.â
whump is fun because you see a character and are like âi love you so much that i want to see you sobbing and covered in blood. i need you dying in a hospital bed. i need you cold, wet, and miserable. i love you and want you to suffer unimaginable horrors. then you can have a kiss on the head as a treatâ

GAG đ YOUR đ WHUMPEES!!!đ
Sick/tired Whumpee that will sleep literally anywhere if left unsupervised. The bed, the car, a dumpster, a ditch, the top of the fridge.
Caretaker can count multiple times when they found Whumpee asleep on the floor, NOT EVEN COLLAPSING. They would just stare down the floor when walking from the bathroom, think to themself âah yes an adequate resting placeâ, get comfy lying down and fall asleep.
Thinking about manhandling again (a common pasttime)
Whumpee being forced to their knees in front of Whumper and/or their team
Pushing Whumpee's head down to make them stare at the floor and keeping them in the uncomfortable slumped posture
Whumpee being hauled to their feet by a grip on their upper arm, maybe causing bruising
A hand on the back of Whumpee's neck to force them down, either to the ground or over a surface like a table in order to wrestle them into cuffs
Dragging Whumpee back by the ankle when they try to crawl away from Whumper
Shoving a handcuffed Whumpee forward impatiently
Whumper surprising Whumpee and grabbing them from behind, an arm wrapping around their neck or a hand covering their mouth to keep them quiet
Just
Manhandling~
random medical facts to use for your hospital whump writing. let your whumpee be a patient today!
if a patient has a seizure that lasts longer than 5 minutes, or if they suffer several seizures, they risk sustaining brain damage â because their brain canât get oxygen during the seizure.
if a patientâs coughing up blood when theyâre lying on their back, make sure to tune their face to the side so that they donât choke on their own blood (the same applies to vomit too)
chest compression can and often leave patients with broken ribs. because you have to push down hard enough in order to help pump blood from the patientâs heart to their brain (the point is so that the brain gets blood, in order to prevent brain damage), and more often than not, youâll end up breaking your patientâs ribs â that is normal and okay, because itâs better for your patient to have broken ribs than it is for them to lose their life.
after a course of electroconvulsive therapy, youâll normally have to give your patient a dose of muscle relaxant, otherwise the aftermath of the shock may cause musculoskeletal complications.
you don't use a defibrillator to shock a patient if they already flat line, because their heart no longer has any electricity. quote "asystole isn't a shockable rhyme, and defibrillator may actually make it harder to restart the heart." (Cleveland Clinic)
the famous, classic "a character was knocked out and they stayed unconscious for hours before they woke up on their own with no lingering damage" trope is actually almost impossible if you want your work to be medically accurate (but if you donât care about accuracy and are just here for the whump, that is totally fine!). if someone was knocked out and they stayed unconscious for more than several minutes, chances are that they suffer permanent brain damage, so they won't "wake up on their own in the next hour or two and be completely fine without intense medical attention".
Intimidation Scenarios...
Hand on the throat â not choking, just resting there, a reminder of how easily it could turn.
Crowding in close â shoulder to the wall, breath hot in the ear, nowhere to move.
Weapon pressed flat â knife laid cold against the skin, unmoving, just waiting.
Mocking calmness â a soft smile, quiet words, while holding them pinned in place.
Dragged into the light â spotlight or flashlight shoved in the face, no shadows to hide in.
Hands behind the back â wrists twisted just enough to ache, captor murmuring threats.
Forced stillness â someone grips their jaw tight, turning their face where they want it.
Interrupted silence â no strike, no shout, just someone leaning close and whispering: âYou know what happens next.â
Cut off from escape â blocking the doorway, boots planted, arms folded, waiting for the panic to rise.
Pain without strike â pressing a thumb into a fresh bruise or wound, watching for the flinch.
Looming presence â circling like a predator, slow steps echoing louder than words.
Mock vulnerability â letting them go, daring them to try to run, promising what will happen if they do.
Dragged to the ground â knee planted on the chest, pinning with effortless weight.
Psychological knife-twist â âWe donât need to hurt you. We just need you to remember we could.â
Gags
CW: Gags, mouth whump, pet whump implied
The embarrassment as drool drips down around the gag from the corners of their mouth
Bruising and chafing that is very difficult to hide
Whumpee wearing a mask to cover it up
Or Whumper taking them to an event and forcing whumpee to wear a mask to hide the gag, while people at the event marvel at how âwell trainedâ and âquietâ Whumpee is
Taped mouth. Duct tape pressed over lips. The smell of the adhesive. The residue it leaves behind. The tightness of it, the way it pulls at the skin.
The immediate control it gives Whumper. Pinch Whumpeeâs nose shut and suddenly you have a writhing, spasming victim.
Or better yet, tape their nose shut. Make them believe this is how it ends, suffocating behind that plasticky scent, helpless
Sew their lips shut. The intimacy of it, the wincing every time the needle pierces their flesh â or maybe Whumper numbed it first, and Whumpee can only watch in the mirror as their mouth is stitched up, utterly silenced
The little noises Whumpee makes. The breathing around the gag. The whines, the panicked âmmmphâs as they realise the words arenât coming. Maybe they try anyway, sounding stupid as they fail to hurl insults
Caretaker carefully removing a gag, horrified at the thought of Whumpee humiliated like this, their autonomy stripped
Caretaker gagging Whumpee to keep them quiet while they escape. The quiet âIâm sorryâs. The betrayal in Whumpeeâs eyes; or maybe itâs acceptance.
Whumpee waking up to realise they are muzzled, the immediate dehumanisation, the panic to realise they canât move their jaw, the laboured breaths to the thick leather or even metal strapped and pressing into their face
Cut out their vocal cords. Do it. Whumpee can't even make a sound. And they never will again.
Or cut out their tongue, the feeling of something wrong in their mouth, the shapeless screaming it causes
April is the cruelest month Day #1: Gagged
can we just agree that, while flinching is really heartbreaking, going limp is sometimes just so much worse?
Because flinching implies that the whumpee expects violence, while going limp implies that they are used to it
Caretaker Lines!!
âź "Stop trying to act tough. You're shaking."
âź "When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
âź "Hold still--I know it stings, but I have to do this."
âź "You scared me half to death, you know that?"
âź "I've got you. You don't have to hold yourself up anymore."
âź "Just breathe. In and out. I'm right here."
âź "You're going to need stitches and I swear, if you say you're fine one more time--"
âź "Don't argue with me right now. Just let me help you."
âź "I'm not going anywhere, so stop telling me to leave."
âź "Can you squeeze my hand? I need to know you can hear me."
âź "You're running a fever on top of everything else. Of course you are."
âź "I found you on the floor. Do you understand how terrifying that was?"
"Oh, just fuck off."
There's nothing unusual about Whumpee cursing Whumper out, nor is it strange for the latter to punish them for it. What is unusual however, is for Whumpee to flinch away from Whumper's hand. It stills in the air between them, while Whumper's lips slowly quirk upwards.
"Are you... scared of me?"
Whumpee swallows, forcing themself not to look away. "You don't scare me, you pathetic-"
Whumper's hand suddenly moves, and there's nothing Whumpee could do to stop their head from twisting away, eyes closing.
It never reaches them, Whumper's chuckles spreading through the room instead.
"Oh, you really are!"
smth smth recovering whumpees that deflect everything with humor đ€ avoiding all of their issues with jokes because thats the only way they know how to cope đ€đ€
Love this XD because they can be genuinely funny but it's also tragic. I have some related ideas!
Whumpees with humor
Content: environmental whump, whipping, defiant whumpee, burn, guilt trip, cane, mild sexual connotations, PTSD
"You should've seen the other guy." "It was a tornado, not a competition"
"That's another five lashes." "Why is it always five with you? Favorite number or something?"
"Where'd you get that scar?" "Fight with a bear." "... it's a burn scar." "Oh. You can tell? Yeah, it had very... hot claws."
"Hiding it with humor isn't going to work---" "Oh, it works." They grin at caretaker. And keep on grinning until caretaker gets exasperated
Saying "that's fine, I'll just go back to whumper" every time caretaker gets even mildly upset toward whumpee
"I don't know whumper, have you even heard of positive reinforcement? Why's it always gotta be the cane?"
Forced to kneel and--- "Step on me daddy"
"What's going on whumpee, you look like a deer in the headlights. Flashback?" Whumpee forces a smile over the terror in their eyes as they look up at caretaker. "Good old days. Fun times."
"It's okay. You can talk about your feelings." Whumpee shakes their head and points at their temple. "You wouldn't want to hear all this kinky shit I got goin' up in here..."
Manhandling--especially done in silence.
Content: manhandling, humiliation, beating
Slammed into the top of a desk with their arm twisted behind them
Whumpee wincing and freezing under whumper's weight as they realize they're trapped; if they move any more their wrist is going to break
whumpee crushing their lips in their teeth to hold back cries of pain that they'd be punished for
Guards shoving in a manacled, stumbling whumpee before the king, kicking him to his knees and forcing him to bow so low his forehead hits the flagstones
Fist in the hair to yank whumpees head up
Or fingernails bruising into the cheeks for the same goal
Whumpee frustrated to rage that they aren't being allowed to just walk straight, instead they have to throw them into walls and slam them down into seats
Looking up with a livid glare at main whumper when they get there
Whumpee starting to speak, "wait, just--" gets yanked so hard the words catch before he staggers forward
"I can walk." Whumpee growls next time they come for him. Snarky guard--"well, you're to be dragged."
When the whumpers step away from whumpee, now tied up and gagged on the floor, panting through his nose
Humiliating punishments like whipping while whumpee is tied up like this, whumpee floundering awkwardly away with a muffled shriek at every strike
Holding whumpee's arms so whumper can punch them over and over in the stomach
A lineup of prisoners, but whumpee is the only one that gets thrown and kicked into position
Whumper: "I hate being lied to." Whumpee: "And I hate being tortured. Guess we both will have to learn how to deal with disappointment in our lives."
Defiant Whumpee who:
*ïŒâżââââżïŒ*
-Hisses out a quiet âfuck youâ as they collapse to the ground
-Fights against being drugged with every fiber in their being. Whumper watches in astonishment as Whumpee who shouldâve been out cold by now weakly stumbles along
-Strains against their restraints to avoid letting Whumper get close/touch them
-Refuses to even look in Whumperâs general direction
-Has an awful injury that hurts like hell and needs attention, but Whumpee forces themselves to keep moving forward regardless
-Ignores every warning sign that their body needs rest, much to Caretakerâs dismay. They keep moving/working until their body gives out
-Refuses treatment/help, insisting that theyâre fine without it because they donât wanna seem needy or weak, even if they really do need it
