Finished watching The Hounds of Baskerville and lowkey? It’s probably my favorite episode so far.
The performances from the cast was especially good, specifically that of the man who played Henry. This entire episode he was brilliant with his acting, but what really cemented his performance was towards the end when he was going to shoot himself. I was brought to tears by his desperation and his fear of hurting others (like with his therapist). Also Martin Freeman did incredible when he was drugged by Sherlock. When he was on the phone pleading with Sherlock to help him get out of the lab, like if I was him I would’ve stopped the charade and got him out of there.
I’ve liked the trend of Sherlock being tested intellectually with how he’s been wrong about specifics within this season’s cases (how Irene technically beat him, how he was wrong about the source of the narcotic). Having to confront these shortcomings has (imo) made Sherlock‘s humanity shine through compared to season one. He’s not a computer who gets everything right all the time; there’s room for human error within him.
I think I’m stretching with this one but I thought it was in good taste to have him be the one to walk Henry through his trauma at the final scene in Dewer’s Hollow.
Sherlock is established to be the Mind while John is the Heart. Letting the former be the one to take over the sensitivity of the situation rather than latter -showing his growth in emotional maturity- was a nice touch.
I liked the continuity of Sherlock attempting at being more pleasurable towards those around him via his “thank yous” and “I’m sorrys”. Like with him connecting with Henry on an emotional level, it’s a sign of continued character growth.
This episode had a good balance of “grounded” camerawork (like in season one) and over the top cinematography shown in season two. The budget upgrade was noticeable in A Scandal in Belgravia, and it felt like the team was showing off with their new tech via the episode’s camerawork. Once the next episode is filmed, it feels like they got ahold of a mixture between season one’s filming and this season’s improved production quality.
All of this combined with the fact that the person I watched it with and I pieced together the mystery without the help of the fan wiki (unlike with the show’s previous episodes) has made it my favorite so far lol.
just watched bbc sherlock ep. 1 and lowkey I’m seeing why the internet fucked with it back in the day lol. I’ve been meaning to watch it for a few years now; come 2026 and I’ve been given the opportunity to do so lol. someone should make a drinking game where you have to take a shot every time “the game is on” plays or someone accuses/alludes to John being a homosexual man 😭

more thoughts on the leaks (specifically pertaining to Mine)
Joining the Daidoji feels like such a step backwards for the development Mine goes through. He joins the yakuza because he wants to “experience the bonds between men”, but goes ahead and joins the Daidoji, an organization that seems to openly denounce relationships and sentimentalities amongst its members?? Also didn’t Mine say something along the lines of, ‘Everything I will and would do is for Daigo Dojima.’ in the Dark Ties trailer, just for the YK3 ending make him (and Hamazaki) set on revenge on Kiryu??? This contradicts both his declaration of loyalty to Daigo and the understanding that Mine came to pertaining to Kiryu on the rooftop. He said, “Kiryu-san, I wish we could have met sooner. I really do. Maybe in my next life…” Wasn’t that him coming to respect Kiryu and clear up any misgivings between them? Having Mine and Hamazaki shift their focus on bringing revenge on him feels so childish. Kiryu’s moved on. They need to do the same.
Out of everyone Mine was close to, faking his death would ultimately impact Daigo the hardest. If RGG is truly taking elements from RGG Online, then there’s probably going to be a scene post-Mine “death” where Daigo’ll be drinking the whisky -that was meant to be for him and Mine- alone. He was one of the few who saw Daigo not only as the Tojo’s 6th Chairman, but also for himself. They had an actual bond outside of subordinate and clan head, the type of bond that Mine so desperately wanted a taste of. He’s causing the most amount of pain towards the one he cared the most for. There’s no positive outcome for them. Mine goes back to being isolated while Daigo has to lead the Tojo Clan without that support Mine provided.
The YK3 ending not only leaves plot holes, but it also leaves contradictory actions that reset any character development that had already been established.
Kiwami 3 leaks
Just read the leaks and dude??? Legitimately what is RGG’s vision with this. Like they’ve officially changed the timeline 😭
With this a Y4 remake is inevitable, having to change story beats that YK3 altered. I’ve seen people in the talks about how a YK4 and YK5 would look, but I’m more curious about what a YK6 would look like. Y6 was already developed in the Dragon Engine, so like… the only improvements a Kiwami remake could give it would be improved combat and side content (that is assuming there wouldn’t be a complete story overhaul like YK3). And if there are rewrites in the canon, then it’s like how’re we gonna loop all of this to fit into LAD’s canon? Like is there going to be a day when it’s common to hear people say “Yeah so remember when Kiryu had cancer in the og IW? Man those were crazy times. Super glad they changed all that in the Kiwami version.”
It’s like RGG wasn’t satisfied with how Yakuza’s story was handled back when each game was originally written, so now they’re taking the time to alter it with how they see fit (despite fan protests and how the retcons fuck with the canon)
the reason why i love hideo kojima💙
