I wish Cliff was mentioned or alluded to in DS2. I know his story had wrapped up pretty well in DS1, and in-game due to Sam only really knowing him as a foe rather than his father it’d be awkward to suddenly make him be outwardly referred to by Sam in a familiar/nostalgic way (coupling this with his issues with getting close to others), but it’d serve as a reminder to the player of Cliff’s connection with him.

Sam and Cliff parallel each other in that they both become fathers to their respective BBs. Cliff’s love for Sam is a given while Sam’s love for Lou grows throughout DS1. They want to protect and care for them- show them a world that is still worth living in.

Sam comes out of DS1 being able to give Lou a chance at life outside of her pod while Cliff suffers from his failing to do the same for his son.

Cliff’s mention wouldn’t have to be big or anything in DS2. Probably sometime during early game like seeing his dog tags in Sam’s shelter or him telling Fragile something along the lines of, ‘I want to be there for Lou. Do what Cliff wanted to with me.’ Something small like that just to acknowledge him and show his greater impact on Sam.
