You can’t really avoid burnout. You can only treat it.
it's been awhile
i feel like i've forgotten a lot of things. i've learned so much too. i left off this blog maybe right at the arrival to the summit ... the turmoil of young 20s had been conquered.
i'm there now, and this last year has been great. a victory lap – spinning circles around the struggles that got me to this point.
but at 25 now i want to look within once more. in exchange for competence in the real world i may have lost a bit of youth.
i want to appreciate and reflect and inspire and create. rather than relive the wonderful dream i've written up until now, i want to go further. write more dreams and live those.
there's only one draft in this life, no re-writes, no edits. the fortunate still have chapters ahead, but none of us get a second volume. your life is just a single rough draft, but i'm out here to make a motherfucking classic if i can.
i think i'll blog again in 2015.
hello, again.
and then there was a girl.
To find someone that ultimately believes in you to the core, and that you believe in them equally so... I cannot imagine a more powerful connection than that.
And if I was a wise man... I'd climb to the top of the mountain peak To think about strength versus weakness I'd find a point that rests a couple of feet above your head And figure out how I could try to help you reach it
Atmosphere "If I Was Santa Claus"
I love giving but I'm bad at receiving The truth is, I'd prefer to be the one bleeding
Atmosphere -"If I Was Santa Claus"
I'm just gonna post a bunch of excerpts from Atmosphere's "If I Was Santa Claus" over this holiday season; it's really one of Slug's finest moments.
i feel like i'm at the point in the relationship with my self where the internal dialogue is like one with an old friend, and how i look inward at myself is almost parental. i can be proud of the accomplishments, accepting of the mistakes, and above all understanding.. i'm sure it's just a byproduct of the isolation, but I do feel as if I'm best friends with myself, and this is something that provides extra confidence if you can buy into it; as you always know that you will never be alone in this weird lifeline we live.
I have finally become the person that I want to be.
Learn to work through things as they come, not let them drift off to collect and build into a mounting heap that seems impossible to get over-- because many couples often don't.
“Before I die, I want to be somebody’s favorite hiding place, the place they can put everything they know they need to survive, every secret, every solitude, every nervous prayer, and be absolutely certain I will keep it safe. I will keep it safe.”
Andrea Gibson (via withpenandpaper)
lyrics excerpt; "at least I have nothing" by saint motel
Finally I can be true to a cause I can be far from the money I can be free from all jobs And I know that sounds crazy But everything does We're all gonna die here At least we could try At least I have nothing Nothing to tie me down Not even someone I've got no more family in this town I had some high hopes for the minds of our generation If we had some goals, we could reach out and take them Finally I've got nothing called home I know the true joy of sorrow Of which I'm sharing alone And I probably messed up Made a mistake At least it was mine At least I can say At least I have nothing
"This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds. To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance. A lifetime is a flash of lightning in the sky. Rushing by, like a torrent down a steep mountain."
- Buddha
What is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?
Cloud Atlas (David Mitchell)
i'm an obsessed loner that doesn't know how to make friends. that being said, today an intern on her last day said to me "You're the hardest working person I know and I'm always going to remember you for it" and it took me back for a second.
