the Nice Family
Movie night (Healy got to choose, March isnât impressed)
eva stratt genuinely makes me froth at the mouth what do u mean she has to hold herself back from the very people she wants so desperately to save what do u mean she makes herself less human in some ways so she can save all of humanity what do u mean she stays strong and never cracks because if she breaks then so does everyone else and that cannot happen what do u mean when she lets down her walls just a little bit for one man she ends up having to send him to his death what do u mean she's the world's whipping boy what do u mean she's going to jail for the rest of her life all because she did what she had to do to save all of humanity and what do u mean she was right the whole time. and that the project she sold her soul and humanity to, that she gave all of herself to, succeeded. what do u mean it was all worth it.
Snotlout fans are so funny because we will defend him from slander and then immediately turn around and say "nevermind you're right he deserves it"
cue insert me getting riled over fishlegs "hating to say" that snotlouts a good fighter before I realized... yeah. don't tell that to him. his ego is high enough. microwave life sentence.
proud to be one of the like 3 people whoâve ever drawn Daglout
man i feel bad for fans of the httyd movies who haven't seen the shows, especially race to the edge. like they don't know that the riders left berk and lived on an outpost together to go adventuring and fight dragon hunters as a team. they don't know that snotlout and astrid and fishlegs and the twins got character development. they don't know how cool and interesting the villains in the shows are compared to the movies. they don't know that the riders are filled with love and loyalty to each other and they bicker and train and play card games with each other and have sleepovers together and will risk their lives for their friends and their dragons in a heartbeat. imagine that.
"average viking gets struck by lightning once" factoid actually just statistical error. average viking is never struck by lightning. Snotlout Jorgenson, who is hated by thor and has been struck by lightning fifteen times, is an outlier and should not have been counted.
sketch of that one scene which makes me melt. Also I hc Snotlout having scars because how the hell does he not have any ???? So yeah, scars and freckles everywhere just because I can...
He is such a big softy for the baby dragons
if you just sit down and think for a minute you realize how batshit insane of a character Dagur is. He has a secret sister that looks nothing like him. He faked his own death. He speed-ran his own redemption-arc through sheer force of will. One time hiccup tackled him so hard they both fell off a cliff. Heâs good at both cooking and drawing but heâs physically incapable of being normal for two seconds. He doesnât even know if his dad loved him. Heâs always falling off his dragon because he refuses to ride with a saddle even though heâs brothers with a guy whose whole deal is training and outfitting dragons. He took on a random teenager as a favor to the guy whoâs chief of an island he spent a whole tv show trying to take over. He let his whole village think he killed his dad rather than have them know the guy just fucked off to dragon purgatory without telling anyone. He went to jail for life when he was eighteen and got prison tats. He meditates. He says âIâm bored as hellâ in the final episode. Heâs probably bisexual and most certainly neurodivergent. He is a freak and a cockroach of a man who is incapable of dying and itâs the best thing ever.
everything in race to the edge makes about 29383 times more sense when you remember they're like the same age as people in their first year of college. its like yeah they're competent enough to build an entire military base/dragon sanctuary/research station and keep it running efficiently while also fighting increasingly difficult and smart enemies but also god forbid any of them do anything the easy way or use good interpersonal communication skills. peak college student behavior
im also obsessed with the interpretation of the blood ocean not being inherently evil or malevolent, in fact, it starts off rather loving. or at least, what it perceives to be loving. it wants simon to become part of it. it could've absorbed the iron lung and mutated it so long ago - we saw how quickly things went to shit in the final act. but its slow, always there in the corner for simon to be constantly aware of it, like a friend letting you know theyre always in your corner. it keeps the oxygen supply going despite the fact it should've run out days ago. it throws him into the cave. it talks to him, tries to entice him to join in anyway it can. come see the truth, it could save you, it has the answers you've been looking for. if that doesn't work, maybe guilt tripping is the answer, reflect on filament station, simon. "i see you". an acknowledgement. simon runs out of tape so the blood mutates to hold the photograph button for him. but the more defiant simon becomes, the more focused on his own survival he is, the angrier the ocean becomes. the creature couldve swallowed him so many times. clearly the radiation isn't actually a threat to it, we see it being blasted so many times in the end, but it continues its chase after him once it kills ava. the creature backing off in the caves after the photograph was a conscious decision. it couldve lashed out right then and there, but it backed off. "hey, im not a threat, im just watching, im right here for when you're ready".
just like eden, just like the COI, the ocean tries to force simon into a life he never really wanted. because he never seems to get a choice.
i just can't stop thinking about an ocean that thinks itself benevolent, when really, its just as cruel as the rest of humanity. or maybe, its humanity that is as cruel as nature. or is it a God? does it even matter?
The divisiveness of Iron Lung is deeply confusing because evidently a bunch of Gen Z YouTube kids are way more tolerant of a slow pace than many grown adults with film degrees
Simon saying "fuck that" to literally every other problem was so real of him. He really felt like one of the top five horror movie protagonists that I've watched. Cursing up a storm seeing the dark crawlspace for the first time. Labelling the map with stuff like "buncha rocks" and "alien shit". Drinking the rubbing alcohol like it's the last liquor shot he's gonna get before deployment. Wasting almost all of his tape just trying keep that damn button taped down. The more I think about him the more I'm delighted by him. Mark played him so damn well
I like how Mark & his team were able to work in the frog (itâs called âfrogâ in the game files) from the ending of the game into the movie, by having itâs blank white eye rush past Simon in the nightmare sequence.
I love how they were able to expand on and explain oddities in the game such as âwhy does the SM-13 -a cheap burner sub- have a valuable computer system in it?â To download the blackbox data from the SM-8!
âHow can the camera take pictures if light canât pass through blood?â It uses X-Rays instead!
âWouldnât that mean it slowly irradiates Simon every time itâs used?â Yes!
âWait, doesnât that also mean that it would only show the bones of a creature, and not the whole thing; meaning you canât tell if itâs alive or dead?â Also yes!
This movieâs attention to detail is insane. 10/10.
the stars are dead. it doesn't matter that simon can see them. they're just dead light fading away. simon is dead from the minute he was welded in that sub. it doesn't matter that we can see him.
eva: oh hey you're back early
simon: ocean's haunted
eva: what?
simon: *cocks radiation gun* ocean's haunted
