“Hey, Louis,” she says into his neck before letting him go to turn, gesturing at her companion. “This is my brother, Harry.”

“Hello, Harry,” Louis says, shaking Harry’s hand. He gets flashes when their hands touch, small glimpses of the loss and pain Harry carries around with him. It’s gone as soon as Harry pulls his hand away and Louis pretends he didn’t see anything. Harry hasn’t asked for his services, though Louis suspects that’s why Gemma’s brought him here.

Luckily, his assistant, Niall had held her off until he was done. “Death changes people sometimes. He’ll remember it. All of it. Dying, how it felt. If it hurt. You’re positive you want to put him through that?”

“I don’t,” she says, wringing her hands and biting her lip to stop it trembling, “but I have to.”

Harry stares, taking her in. Her eyes shine with unshed tears but she’s standing tall, certain. Harry nods once and turns back around to face the body lying on the metal slab before him. His name is Louis Tomlinson and, as he rolls up his sleeves, Harry Idly notices how gorgeous he was. Is. He hopes this isn’t going to traumatize Louis.

It’s been two years since Harry and Louis broke up. They were that couple in high school – you know the one; been together forever, hopelessly in love, all over each other, the whole nine yards. Even when Louis went off to university, they found a way to make the distance work.

Until they broke up.

Now Harry is back in town, and no matter how many times Louis tells himself they can’t be together, they keep falling right back into each other.

“They got a name?” Bebe asks.

“What?”

“Your ghosts,” she says, her voice suddenly soft. “If you want to tell me, I mean. I know I said I wouldn’t ask, but. Sometimes it can help to exorcise them.” She pauses, and chuckles. “Other times, vodka works better than sage.”

Louis holds his breath for a moment, building the courage, before he finally murmurs, “Harry.”

“Sorry?”

“Harry,” Louis says again. The name feels like a time bomb in his mouth, but it hasn’t blown up yet. “His name was – is – Harry.”

It was a blast to participate, and I’ve loved reading the stories that came out of it. Louis sits at his desk now, reclined in his chair with a knee pulled to his chest. His journal sits open against his thigh as he stares outside and watches the dogwoods sway in the wind, lost in thought about this life he’s fallen into and never imagined for himself even a year ago. Harry pulls him from his daydream when he leans over his shoulder to kiss his jaw, handing off a mug of steaming tea, made just the way Louis likes. It’s so thoughtful and kind, but Louis knows Harry doesn’t think about these things, just does. He does them because he loves Louis, loves him despite his shit everywhere that makes their (their) flat messier than Harry would like, despite Louis’ odd hours he keeps now that he’s onto his next novel.

Louis takes a careful sip of his tea, the steam rising to his face, and writes.

It’s clear Nick mostly means Louis.

It’s not like there’s some sort of rule about the host of Capital’s morning show and the host of Radio 1’s breakfast show not being at the same events, but – they kind of pretend there is anyways.
