the breaking wheel is the dumbest torture implement. "what's a breaking wheel?" whatever you're imagining is a better idea than reality. it's a wheel that breaks you. there's literally nothing more to it than that. they hit you with the wheel and it breaks you. that's it, that's the whole device. they break you with the wheel.

if it's a wheel you are strapped to, i've seen a clever interpretation with spikes and a water-line/river. A horrifying combination of muscular torsion/stress, repeated impalement, and drowning as the wheel turns inexorably.

every single day millions of people are poisoned by the actions of rich people trying to save a dollar by ignoring public safety. nobody has ever chosen to get brain damage. implying people with it are predisposed to conservatism is flatly awful. you yourself are not safe from getting brain damage because you are leftist. you are not special. you are just as likely to fall victim to it as anyone else is.

I mean this was the whole point of the Milgram experiment. “Why are Germans so predisposed towards fascism and genocide?” Actually, surprise! we all are! We are all completely capable of doing terrible things under the right conditions. Wouldn’t it be efficient if there was a “makes you conservative” gene or quality? And we could proactively round up all those people and sequester them away from the rest of us, or whatever? Wouldn’t that make everything so much easier?
