I have realized that the perfect form of media must have a delicate balance between absolutely heart wrenching pure emotional devastation and the most ridiculous nonsense you have ever seen in your whole life
it’s wild how tech literacy lasted like one generation barely before it fell off
The tech industry saw to it. In a drive to both expand their market by making it easier to pick up tech without knowing how it works, and in an effort to lock down controllable walled gardens and ecosystems they could fully control and exploit, tech has continuously and systemically destroyed both the need for tech literacy and the avenues for developing it independently.
You are not supposed to know how your devices work. You are not supposed to modify them without paying a service fee, you are not supposed to add functionality to them unless they sell it to you, and you are DEFINITELY not supposed to repair or reuse them when they could make you replace them at full price.
Tech literacy didn't die, it was slowly strangled out of people.
me trying to convince myself that the whole spectrum of human emotions is a good and necessary thing to feel even if its not comfortable while im actively experiencing emotions that make me feel like my bones are being dissolved in acid
do you have or could you make a webweave about nostalgia? specifically of the yearning and grieving variety. it's killing me that all of it is gone forever, that all that remains is an echo, and that it will only keep fading. big yikes.

if you don’t know the difference between a hare and a rabbit you’ve never gazed into the cold wild eyes of a hare and known that if it could speak it would speak backwards
Jack Rabbits are North American Hares and they’re the WORST to encounter at night becuase:
You all know how big a rabbit is. Jack Rabbits and hares are much bigger. they’re the size of large cats or small dogs or just-walking-age children.
They also like to hang out in gangs of a hlf dozen to over 30.
and in the middle of backcountry dirt roads.
perhaps they’re dustbathing
or blood sacrifce
I don’t know because when you come up the road at night because your dog has a tiny bladder and needs to go out at midnight and you have no yard so you’re walking him on the dirt road around your neighborhod because you might aw well get some stargazing in, and you come just over the ridge to see a coven of twenty jackrabbits in the middle of the road
and
they
all
stand
up
not just onto all fours like a proper prey animal
No they get up on thier hind legs and don’t just sit but STAND like tiny rabbit-skinned toddlers, wobbing slightly as they stare directly at you eyes shining in your flashlight’s glow
…Blood Red.
And a chill goes through you on that warm july night because while they’re a puntable size and allegedly herbivores they’re standing and watching you just like people and you are vastly outnumbered.
everyone freezes
you’re considering your odds aganst roughly 200lbs of Suspiciously Humanoid Hare
and they’re considering their odds against you
the only sound in the never-ending high desert wind
somewhere in your peripheral vision you can see the streetlights but they seem awfully far away
The nearest Jack Rabbit
Blinks
and takes a single shuffling step
forward
You area an overdevloped monkey and your prefrontal cortex is capable of some amazing feats but it runs very slowly compared to the reflexes of a rabbit and you’re frozen as you desperately scramble for the appropriate course of action, hands feeling thick and useless, mouth dry and feet imeasurably heavy there’s no way you’d outrun THESE, god there’s a rabies outbreak going around that shit’s not curable-
The Dog
L U N G E S
It’s only the briefest of movements but the animal you’d picked out for his gangly legs and floppy ears and goofy smile is suddenly a dark shape of muscle and teeth and had flung himself at the horrible goblin rabbits faster than mere physics should dictate, appearing in the circle of the flashlight for only the briefest of moments before the jolt from the leash makes you stumble and the light falters
The Jack Rabbits
Scatter
Vanishing into the faintly starlit sagebrush in as so many faint gray shapes that might be mistaken for the dustclouds they kick up
Later, you sit on the couch disquieted
and you wonder
If the sight of the Jack Rabbits standing and studying you was frightening enough to make you yearn for the safety of the yellowed streetlights
what must it be like from thier end?
what terrifying creature
deliberately ties itself
to something so horrible
As a Dog?
@gallusrostromegalus that last bit gave me such a strong mental image I absolutely had to draw it
WELL HOLY SHIT.
CONGRATULATE, THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING FOR.
is it ok if I print it out and stick it on the fridge?

when talking about fleabag, we all talk about "I love you"/" it'll pass" but what we don't talk about maybe cause it's implied, maybe cause just quoting this encapsulates the feeling but listen,
the lines go fleabag saying "I love you" and the hot priest says "it'll pass" and THEN HE SAYS "i love you too"
idk if you have to name it to know it, but the fact that he confesses his love for her, the fact that he chose God, the fact that despite right person-wrong time or maybe wrong person-right time, despite all that, it'll pass. The love wasn't unrequited but the choice was. the subsequent grief, heartbreak, it'll pass
this is just earth-shattering, cause the only person that truly saw her, loved her for what she was, didn't choose her, and no matter what it'll pass. as if the greatest heartbreak of life is that it keeps moving on and you have to move on with it POETIC CINEMA

i can't explain why but "i love you" / "it'll pass" is genuinely one of the most comforting pieces of dialogue i've ever come across. the context is deliberately sad, the hot priest is walking away from fleabag, choosing religion over love ["oh i don't know what this feeling is" / "is it god or is it me?"] and it's SICK because he loves her too [ "i can't have sex with you because i'll fall in love with you and if i fall in love with you, i won't burst into flames, but my life will be fucked"] but like. it's not a "sad ending" for the sake of being sad and realistic or an unreasonably happy ending preaching love and forever ever-afters. it doesn't villainize or glorify the concept of love or people. it's simply speaking the truth in the simplest of words. you're in love with me and it's going to make you miserable but it'll pass. the pain will lessen and that ache in your chest will fade till it's tolerable. you'll laugh more often. soon it'll be easier to get up in the mornings. this is a law, a rule, a fact. no matter how precious that pain is, how inescapable- it'll pass. even though he's the hot priest and she's fleabag and they're so obviously made to be happily in love w each other- it'll still pass. it's how we're built-to persevere, to survive, to break and be okay again.
What if you meet someone you like?
fleabag's fourth wall breaks being a metaphor for dissociation, and her doing them every scene EXCEPT when she has sex with the priest where she physically shoves away the camera. it being the first time in the entire show where she's fully present in the moment... poetic cinema.
So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, (I love you too)
"it will pass" is still the craziest response to someone saying "i love you" like he really gagged her a bit
